Boy was it hot and humid in NYC this weekend! Anyways, I never realized how BIG Central Park NYC is. So.... I asked the taxi driver to drop me off near the reservoir on the Central Park West side. I brought my running bottle to hydrate and started my warming up routine. I couldn't believe it but I was already sweating in 3 minutes! O_O I did (2) laps around @ low Z3 since there was alot of walkers and I wanted to enjoy the scenery. Pretty good run pacing an average 9:05/mile. =) The wedding was nice and was held near Eatontown, NJ along the beach. ^_^ ~Roland |

Member 134 | Subject: RE: Shellback1998 Group - FULL thor67 - 2011-07-19 8:51 AM And now for the race report! July 17: After a restless sleep, finally get up at 4:45am, make a pot of coffee and have breakfast. Double check, repack, double check, repack. Head out at 6:10am, stop for a tim horton's coffee, arrive at race at 6:30. 1:30 until race time! They are just finishing putting up the bike racks. Manage to get my bike on the end near the bike exit! Things are looking up! It is a warm sunny day! Pick up race timing velcro wrist strap. Warm up with my wife, doing some stretches etc. Wet suit on, go for a quick swim. Swim is an out and back mass start with Olympic, sprint and team racers...crowded! Swim: Okay, first OWS. First OWS with new wetsuit. Only practiced twice in it and only for short time...dumb, dumb, dumb! Started out flying! Tired quickly as the suit seemed to constrict me... Seemed like the buoy was a looonnng way out there. Seemed like i was doing breast stroke every 50 meters. Not feeling great about this time. Coming back ended up going off track about 50 meters out. Finally out of the water. Was very dizzy. Walked up the beach. Time:27:06 Time was way better then I was expecting. Need to train more in my wetsuit for future races! Note:Pool swim for my sprint 1/2mile a month ago was 13:21.
Transition: After clearing my head the transition went relatively well(at least that is what my wife said) Ate part of cliff bar, some water, shoes, helmet, sunglasses and off! Bike:Started pretty good except a big hill right off the bat! A very hilly course! some killer hills. I felt pretty good during the bike, especially the back 1/2. An out and back course. Nutrition was sorely lacking though...Overall I was pretty happy with the bike! Time:1:28:15(includes both transitions) Note:Sprint race time for 1/2 the distance was 49:13 Run:Another killer hilly run. Very little flat running. Felt very good coming off the bike. First 2 miles went pretty good. Then a large long hill my quads began cramping up...seemed like every time I went up a hill the quads just went nuts...nutrition, hot sun, not enough hill training killed me. Time:58:22 Note: sprint race for 1/2 the distance 24:33 Should have upped my sport drinks during bike. Overall time of 2:53:42. All things considered, I am pleased with my time. Need to make some adjustments to my training. I can't wait until next year as I am going to enter all the races that I did this year again! Also entering two more races this season in August 21 and Sept.5. First one will be either an oly or sprint, second one is only a sprint. Both OWS... Nice job on a challenging race! |

Member 134 | Subject: RE: Shellback1998 Group - FULL So, today, I had a new and interesting experience -- mountain biking! OMG it was so tough! I had no idea the roots and ups and downs would be so challenging. I have a few cuts and scrapes from some falls. It was fun, but I was worn out after 7.7 miles of trails! I'll do it again, but I like road biking. Will let you know in the morning how sore I am! |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: Shellback1998 Group - FULL Aug 7th NYC and then I'm done for the year. I may do the Mayflower Sprint on September 4th or 5th for fun. And I may do the Smutty Nose marathon on October 2nd just to get that off my check list of things to do. It's at Hampton Beach in NH and is as flat a marathon as you can get. I'm sure I'll throw in another sprint or duathlon in the fall but nothing planned. After NY I more or less want to start gearing up for next season when I hope to do a couple of HIMs as my goal. |

Member 113 | Subject: RE: Shellback1998 Group - FULL My next race is Lakefront Sprint Tri on August 6th. I should be building this whole week but was sidelined for 2 days because of my own stupidity. When I was tubing on the river for 3 hours I missed putting sunscreen under my arms but above swimsuit. The sun has never seen this skin and apparently I exposed this part of my arm most of the ride down the river. I could not wear a bra or swimsuit for 2 days. I tried to run yesterday but only made it 20 minutes before the rubbing drove me to stop. Last night I did a 1600 in the pool and I think that the chlorine actually helped. Anyway, plan to run on treadmill tonight (it's 97 degrees and humid) and then swim 1600 meters. At least the swimming is coming together. Before I would struggle to swim a 1/4 mile and now I can swim 1600 meters without stopping. I will not be last out of the water in my next tri!!!! Also, I am looking for a Sept sprint to do. Linda |
