I'm hoping thin crust.  My husband is in charge of the dough, and I like super thin crispy cracker like crust.

I do not have a recipe for the stuffed portobellos, I just threw it together with what I had in the house.  Next time I might add some black beans.

I have not been to Osteria but keep getting emails and seeing ads for it.  I'm pretty sure they are affiliated with Doc Chey's, one of our favorite little places in Virginia Highlands.  Is the pizza good?  I'm picky about my pizza, we have yet to find a decent pizza place in the south.

After going to Italy pizza is ruined for me forever.  It's sad.

I was completely shocked by pizza in Italy.  It came out of a fire pit, with burning embers on top.  Thats a topping? Smokey goodness.

Good Luck Racers.

Next time try sprinkle the thin crust with garlic, and parmasan, partially cooking the crust, before putting the sauce and hot toppings on.  Comes out extra crisp and it keeps the sauce from soaking in making the crust soft.  Yum.  My favorite toppings? chilled arugula, baby red leaf, radicchil, tomatoes and shaved Parmesan tossed in Bijan balsamic vinaigrette.  Very tricky to eat, unless you use a knife and fork.

That's a good idea, I'll try that next time.  Thanks.

All this pizza talk, I think I'll be ordering a pizza tonight. Sadly it will just be from Papajohns, but that's all I have to work with here.

Just had pizza at my daughters b-day party but it is nothing compared to Italian pizza. I lived in Naples for three years and loved every bit of the food there especially a good pizza with some mozzarella DI Buffalo on it. mmmmm Good luck to those racing this weekend

The same guy who owns Doc Cheys also owns Osteria.  Really good thin crust pizza and pastas.

In the air right now.  Looks like I'm somewhere above Kansas.  Looking forward to a few hours in San Diego before another long plane ride home.

Boo - it's raining here.  All day!  And I have a 2 hour run (although my schedule has it split into 2 - 1 hour runs) today and I will not do that on a treadmill.  I guess I'll try to squeeze it in if there's a break or slowing of rain.  Right now it's pretty thick.

Yesterday I did an 82 mile hilly ride with my training buddy.  It was very slow (took us 6 hours) because of all the hills.  We averaged under 14mph.  It was a good mental training day, I was in the valley of darkness several times, but we finished.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's on here.  Hope you have a great day.  My son just got up and offered to take me to breakfast.  Since I can't run right now, I'm taking him up on his offer.  It's not often I get to spend time with him, this should be fun.

57 mile ride yesterday followed up by a 12 mile run this morning. Both were about 10% above my normal pace. Kicking up the intensity with 3 weeks of real traing left before the taper.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's in our group.

Pretty bummed out today since I'm not racing. I was looking forward to the Jay Benson Tri today (it's the biggest/most popular in our area) and to get in and not race is a downer. Oh well, I'm just telling myself that sitting out and healing it better in the long run.

Steve - sorry you missed your race today.  That sucks, but you'll be back out there racing soon enough.  You just need to let your body heal.

Happy Mothers Day everyone!!!

Steve, sorry you missed your race!

So, despite having to go to my inlaws, I had a GREAT mothers day!!! Ran a local tri this morning. I had the WORST swim ever - I am not a strong swimmer anyway, but I got in the water and must have thought I was a fish and took my first breath underwater - sucked half the pool into my lungs and sinuses - it was AWFUL. I couldn't catch my breath and wound up breathing on every stroke just trying to hang on. My first transition was fine, got on the bike and just started passing people left and right. It was a  series of 10 - 180degree switch backs so everytime I would get up to 21-22mph I had to abruptly slow down. No one passed me on the bike so I felt good! Got into the run no problem, chased down 1 or 2 and then was by myself for a while - until a 50 year old chicked me out of the blue!

Get this - I won SECOND in my age group (only 16 but second sounds so good!) and came in 12th overall(out of 125ish)!! Time was 57:55! I have been on cloud nine all day!! It was a really well organized race - happy I decided to do it!

Recovery ride done and recovery run later.

I picked the hilliest, most difficult routes on this side of the city to bike and run this weekend, and I am paying for it now.  Yesterday it felt like I'd strained my hamstring, but today it feels better.  Last night I started having this pain in my knee when I climb the stairs.  It's a sharp, stabbing pain.  There is a tiny bruise above the spot that hurts when I press on it.  Anyway, I took pain relievers last night and this morning.  I plan on icing it after I drop the kids off at school.  Didn't bother me on the bike this morning, but I question my ability to run right now.  May have to switch to more bike time later instead.
