ceilidh - 2013-02-08 10:30 AM I just signed up for a women's MTB clinic in Indiana this summer. It should be fun. I would like to MTB more and it will be great to get some actual taught skills rather than having to learn the hard way.

I'm going to assume the hard way involves a lot of bumps & bruises, aches & pains.

I have been tempted to give it a try.  But don't really have a proper bike for it. Plus I am not sure that I want to risk the injuries.  But who knows, maybe someday.  This is my same concern about rollerblading.

There is a group of girls in this area that MTB on a set of trails in the county.  Sometimes they do rides specifically for beginners.

Oh Dee, you SHOULD!! I have never been seriously injured. Though I do not bomb through the woods either. It is fun and more "kid-like" than road biking. You get to ride through puddles and streams! Plus, if you fall off a MT Bike it is usually way softer than falling off a road bike! You should join that group!  I would in a heart beat. All of the rides here are really intense, advanced rides. You can even borrow a bike..

DO IT!!!

Do you wear anything to protect your knees and wrists?  I guess I am a little paranoid because if I get too hurt, I can't work.  And our income can't take that. Frown

I would love to come east.  There are so many places that I would like to visit.  And of course, people that I would like to see (like Ghoulies!).

But it seems that our main vacation each year gets planned for us around a family get-together with either my siblings or Larry's siblings.  I enjoy those but we only get one main trip a year, and I wouldn't mind something different. But when our families are so spread out, it is hard to say no.

I wear a helmet and gloves. I have never hurt either my knees or my wrist. You could wear the same wrist protectors they used roller blading. It may make it hard to shift, though. I think you should go and try the beginner ride, you will find out that it is more tame than you think. Especially if you are not doing rugged single track. Even then, I go slow and have few problems. I have no pride either, If I need to walk, so be it. I am in it for the fun and it is WAY more fun than you would think. zipping through the woods and fields.

Thanks for the offer! I will keep that in mind.  It would be great if we could work something out.  I am also not opposed to trading massage therapy for rooming!

This year it looks like a family reunion down in San Diego area.  It will be expensive, but at least we will do some fun touristy things.  Not to mention a beautiful area.

Maybe the next time I see them post a beginner's ride, I will see if I can borrow a bike.

I haven't ridden my street bike in a looong time.  It needs new tires I fear.

San Diego is great!

Yeah, I have been there quite a few times but not in the last decade or so.  Larry has never been there.  Besides the reunion, we are thinking of SeaWorld and perhaps Disneyland.  Probably the drag racing museum.  And of course the beach, etc.

ceilidh - 2013-02-08 9:18 AM Kendra, you and Frank should come up for the Olympiad, too. Lots of fun things to do.

Considering it.  We have to figure out our schedule for the year.  vacations, grandkid visits, etc.

I think that Dee's family needs to plan a family vacation to the cabins at Lake Lure.  And then Dee can come early or stay longer for a Ghoulie reunion.

Bills paid - check

Taxes worked on - check (and almost done, woot!)

I better go swimming now before I have to be back at the house to sit and wait on a door installation.  They are supposed to be here at 3pm eastern time.

That  IS  a good idea!  My side of the family would probably go for that (coming from Texas & Tennessee.)  I will have to check on that.

Uh oh.  My swim never happened either.

I wound up working straight thru so no time to swim.  Couldn't stay late and swim because we have a meeting tonight.  Plus my week is catching up to me, I am so tired....so no workout today.  I am ahead on my workouts anyway.  I just wanted to get a swim in this week.
