Just wanted to share with everyone. (For those that do not know, I was diagnosed with metastatic thyroid cancer in 2010. I had surgery and radiation and was doing great until last October when I found out I had cancer in some lymph nodes of my neck. We decided to watch and wait at that time). I just had another ultrasound last week and the news is good - the lymph node only changed by 0.03cm which is negligible. It is considered stable at this point! Yeah!! I have a meeting with my primary cancer doc next month to go over blood work results and discuss the next step of monitoring. Best news ever!!! Eagleman will happen with no interference from cancer!!

And on another front, my husband surprised me and took me to a bike store. He knew I had been researching a new bike and he took me to try it out! I have Kelly's older triathlon bike and it has served me GREAT over the last year and I have mixed emotions about getting a new bike. But I am really interested in upgrading, so my research continues and I don't think it will be long!

This is wonderful news, Michele!!!  I am so happy for you!  I think you're going to love the HIM.

Swimming - what's that?

So I did my 2nd ride on the Adamo saddle, and I've got to say YOWZA!!! From what I've read, there's an adjustment period for the tissue/sit bones. And I know the adjustment period is different for everyone, but what's a ballpark average before I can sit down without screaming? 2 weeks, 2 months? Holy smokes that was painful.

It took me a good 3 months before I felt comfy on my Adamo Road.  That's probably not the answer you wanted to hear but that was the case for me.

Karen, it has been almost two weeks for me on it and today felt much better. Sunday I was sore after the two hours on the trainer. That was my second 2hr ride on it. I will let you know more after this weekends ride which will be two hours as well.

2 hours on that saddle - WOW! I was dying, thankfully my workout was only 1 hour. But I have to climb back on tomorrow for another workout. Cry

Which saddle did you say you ended up getting?

The other saddle my friend lent me is the Cobb Plus. I want to try that one but think I should stick with the adamo for a couple weeks before swapping again. If I don't like the Cobb I won't know if it's because of the saddle, or residual pain from the adamo.

My Cobb V-Max and new seat post came in the mail yesterday. I have my bike fit next week and can't wait. Hope it does not take long to get adjusted.

I have the Racing2 version. But perhaps you may like the more cushy one. I can't remember which one that is but the link to the article Scott put up has it in there. I looked at the Cobb as well but settled on the Adamo.

carrie639 - 2013-01-23 8:37 AM Are you on a road bike or tri bike? Which saddle?  There is an adjustment period, but shouldn't take too long I dont' think.  If you are on a tri bike, you should feel it as much as on a road bike or sitting up alot.  Other than the sit bones, how did the seat feel?

I put it on my tri bike, but I was sitting up the entire ride, never in aero. Not sure if that makes a difference. And I'm borrowing the racing saddle, which is more firm than the road & time trial from what I have read.

Other than the sit bones it felt great. First ride was wonderful, last night not so much. But it's definitely only painful in the sit bone area. I'll just have to tough it out.

That's probably a good sign.  If it's just a sit-bone soreness, then you're probably going to be ok with it once your nether regions get used to the new saddle.  It has always taken me about two weeks to get used to a new saddle, provided I'm riding at least three times per week on it for those two weeks.  I'd give it at least that long to see if the soreness goes away.  I'm sure you've probably got this taken care of, but if your bike fitting was done with a different saddle, make sure also that the new one is in the same front/back position relative to the bars, and has the same degree of fore/aft tilt.

If you've given it a real chance for a few weeks and it still doesn't feel right, though, don't be shy about changing saddles.  Long-term saddle pain is something you definitely don't want...

If it means anything I find it more painful to sit up than being in aero unless I really roll my hips back. Maybe just me though. I also noticed you said you are on the racing saddle, the road might be better. I think the time trial is the same as the road but with a drop in the nose area. Good luck these things definitely are not a lazy boy

So we are taking the kids to Disney the end of April into May. I'm going to have to take that week off from training completely to avoid divorce court.........so two questions:

What's the max percentage I should do the week I come back?

What's the earliest date I could do a HIM coming off that week off?

I expect my volume when I leave to be something around 6500 yards, 150-160 miles and 30-32 miles. I was looking at trying to do something the week before we go with similar numbers but NC and SC are the closest which is hard.

You're just taking one week off?  You'd be surprised how little you'll lose in just one week and the junk you eat while there will probably reset your metabolism.  If you can schedule it as a "deload" week you can probably lose very minimal time.  Probably set you back a week.

I don't think so.  Might have to do some creative planning or cut your taper short, but a down week a month and a half or so from a HIM isn't a deal breaker.

That is such great news!  Cancer runs in my family so even though I personally have not had it, my sister is a double breast cancer survivor and my mom passed away from lung cancer.  Your healthier lifestyle probably contributes to you continuing to do well.

luv2bhealthy - 2013-01-20 10:08 PM A few of my races were missed as well...Spring/Fall classic sprint on 4/28. Possible the Tyler olympic on memorial day weekend. Jefferson Heritage tri in July. Not sure from there.

I only added ones in that were "sures" and where I could find dates.

I'll amend and re-post.

No worries!  They weren't posted on BT until I put through requests for them so they should all be out there now.

Well, I managed to get sicker over the weekend.  The weird thing about this "virus" (or whatever it is) was the chills.  I just couldn't get warm.  Taught my workout class Monday night.  That was a bit of a struggle but I think it helped because I slept well and felt much better yesterday.  I know I'm not 100% yet, but I have a run/bike coming up in 2 weeks that I am not ready for and a 15k the weekend after that.  It's crunch time.

On the other hand, I found a pool in another town that I think I'm going to take advantage of.  It's twice the price, but it's open 7 days a week so I can swim the weekends.

Sitting up on a tri bike will make a difference with the sit bones cuz you are in a totally different position, but you also need to get the angle right so you are no impaling yourself with the seat.  It will take a little bit to get used to and the racing saddle is more firm.  I want to go to the breakaway when my body is more accustomed.

Give it a couple weeks and LUBE UP!

Just thought I would share this little milestone. I changed my first tire! I put on a trainer tire instead of eating up my zaffiro's. It wasn't as bad as I suspected. Thank goodness for youtube and levers! Of course what I really need is a trainer rim so I don't have to change tires out in between. If anyone know where I can get a really cheap tire and cassette let me know.
