justinfss - 2013-01-29 11:16 PM Great plans DQ! Especially the ice cream! Who doesn't love ice cream!! Well if you don't you are crazy.

I am a little disappointed in myself because today yet again I did not make it to the gym or out the door for a run. I don't know what it is but I get home from work and want to spend time with the little one and my wife, then I try to whip up whatever supper is on our Meal plan, and then do the dishes clean up, bath time...etc etc. I fell like as I am writing this I am making an excuse but even after my wife took my daughter, and said I could head to the gym I ended up falling asleep on the couch for 2 hours, and now I am up a midnight wide awake and have to be up for work in 5 hours. Anyways feeling kind of bummed, need to get a handle on sleep, and it's not going to happen for a bit because I start midnight shifts on Sunday night. It's hard because I also know that sleep is critical to my weight loss goals. Anyways, these last two days have been a struggle, looking to get back on track.

Justin, we all go through times of being not interested...heck I just had 3 months of the blahs...I would workout at least once a week but train? nah nothing to do with it.  But these guys hung tough with me and I was always encouraged.

Justin, you will pull out of the funk, just keep in touch with the group to know we all care.  Maybe you have a touch of postpartum depression by proxy?

Hi All:

I have to get going here at work but I need to make a quick pledge to the group... Last night and this morning, my eating has gone down the toilet.  I think I'm back on track at least for now, but want to promise the group that I will stick to the menu for the rest of the day.  If I go off the reservation again today - no beer for a week.

Will post a new plan later. Thanks

A year??? Really? Time sure flys!

David,

So you fell off the wagon, so what! you are still an inspiration to all of us and a great mentor/ team leader. We all have off days, also you have to allow some flexibility because that is just life!

I know you will get back in line, and I will do my best to hold you accountable, but hey dont beat yourself up over it!

X2 here

I've had the pleasure of knowing/training/commiscerating (sp) with you for a good year or so now.  Your quality, and you will rise to the top.  Whatever you set your goals to.  get back on the horse and go after it!

Today marks workout #30, a nice tempo 5k with a new PR - 25:25.

Lunch was catered in today at work, to celebrate one of our staff getting pregnant, and they had cupcakes bigger than my fist (mine had an apple filling), and I still have a calorie surplus today.

A good day, overall.

On that note. I pi$$ed out on my workout this morning, and put my monthly mileage goal in jeapardy before it even began.  I then went and played hockey tonight, and pulled my groin (har-d-har har) for the third week in a row.  I always take the next day off after hockey game, but I may be layed up for a few days after this one.  Ibuprofen, and Seagrams are my friend on this evening.  :0

I am not sure what kind of hockey team you play on if you keep pulling your groin....Laughing

Seagrams wine coolers?....haha!

Time for some therapeutic swimming!

Segram's 7, the whiskey, not the wine cooler.  Wink

Does anyone think doing some yoga would slow the knee healing?  I borrowed a friends p90x yoga dvd and 30 minutes in it looks like it should be ok.  I have never done any type of yoga before so I don't know what to expect (except that all these super fit people in the video are sweating hard so I'm sure I will be crying like a baby)  I guess if I get any discomfort just stop what ever it is and skip that part sounds like the smart thing to do.

I love yoga but p90x yoga almost killed me. It may have been the other workouts that tee'd me up. I would not push too much time. 30 minutes seems right. A better option would be the stretch dvd from p90x. I have used that before races and it is great.

some yoga positions can very much effect your knee ligaments, especially if not done properly (such as bending the knee too far forwards over the ankle).

I'm new to yoga so I would defere to someone who has been doing it longer - but I don't see it exacerbating the tendonitis if it's yoga that geared towards stretching.  There's yoga meant to build muscle - and I don't think that would be as good for you.  However, if your worried about the knee - just don't do the stretches for that side.

I am loving the app I downloaded.  It's called Yoga Studio and it has videos of different yoga exercises.  Might just be the best 1.99 I have ever spent.

Good luck... -

Thanks Bobby, since I am new to it I'm sure i would make that mistake with the knee position.  Risk v Reward...I'll stick to doing the swims and some walking.  Last thing I need is to keep it from healing and find myself still injured months from now because I was impatient.

Good luck!  You are the man and I applaud your passion.

I don't know if there is snow out there - but try to find a place where you won't lose traction or you a liable to make your strain worse... Also, be sure to ice afterwards...

Evening all -

I was just telling my wife (before she fell asleep on me - I have that effect on womenWink) that this forum is a powerful thing...   2 days ago, I was eating like crap and knowing the power of the pledge, I promised you all that I would eat better and I have.  I even drank less than I had planned to.

That's the beauty of what we have going on here.  Embrace it - get involved.  The forum and the people in it will keep you honest and you'll be able to help others.  Win - Win.

Speaking of which, tomorrow night is the monthly meeting of our campus beer club.  a group of friends and I are gonna try 10 scottish and Irish beers.  God knows, I'll need a plan for that!

Morning All:

I got in my swim today and felt really good.  That slow build seems to be doing me right... Although my shoulders made it clear they weren't big fans of the pushup challenge... might have to dial that back a bit.

Tonight when I get home, I'm going to run a 5K so I can earn the calories to drink some tasty beverages... Totally worth it.

Have a great day everyone and be sure to check in on your goals to make sure you are going to able to achieve them by Sunday.  If not - I've got a bunch of warm coors lights for ya...Wink

Dave - Good job getting back on track with nutrition, you are right about the accountability here helping!  I love the accountability and support here!

Kevin - Good luck on the run hope it goes well.

Alex - Hope the tendonitis is getting better!

As for me I will not make my 30 goal!  It has been a really crappy week, we have a rosary to go to tonight for a friend that was taken way too early and a funeral tomorrow.  I am going to the airport today to pick up the brother in law, however, I am committed to getting to the gym after the rosary to get a brick in and end up at 29 for the month.  This weekend is not going to be any better, as I am traveling south do go to another friends funeral.  Two funerals in a week is no good.

Even though I did not make the 30, I feel very proud of what I did do.  My totals for the month will be over 100 miles on the bike and 30 miles running, which is about double what I did in December and probably more than I have ever done in my life!  I am committed to doing at least that much in February if not more!  I hope everyone has a great last day of January and get  ready to do some push ups tomorrow!

Your first pushup challenge is the worst. Now just follow the plan and you will be fine. If you figure it is too much just start one level down. No biggie, the end result is the same, just a slower build up! Enjoy those beers...after the run!

Although you did not make the 30, I think it would be considered a success! It is just a goal number to help push us out the door to the gym, track, bike, pool etc.

Great job! Now add 10% to those totals for february!

29 done. 30 and 31 this evening!

I do my initial pushup challenge tomorrow, then start week 1 on Feb. 4.

I am also going to shoot for 27 out 28 for February!

Not sure if it is a blip or what but it has been a pretty damn good workout week. My swim Tues. felt like mid season form(not nearly as labored). Runs have felt pretty good, well as good as they ever feel, still waiting for that runner`s high...I did a 2500 meter row this morning in record time for 2013.

For February I want to up the distance on some of my runs, bikes, swims and rows.

One last thing. If you have not signed up for a race, please do as it just adds to the commitment!

After the first month, there always seems to be a bit of a drop off of group members. NOW is the time to buckle down! Pick a race and sign up for it. Commit! Currently we have 18 members in this group!

Who will be here training consistently by the end of February? Consider this a challenge!Smile

Hey everyone!!

Sorry for falling off the map.  I have had much going on - both good and bad.  My biz. has had a marked uptick.  I am so relieved.  I think that the rumors about people building again are true!!  I interviewed and was appointed to my city's planning commission, and our family dog of 14 years died.  Kind of a lot in the week.  My workouts and eating have suffered too.  I am jumping back in!  No more fooling around I have races scheduled!!!  Smile

Hope everyone is taking care of themselves, remaining injury free, and kickin' butt.

Push up challenge question... is there an official app that the group is using?

I am miserable at push ups, but I am willing to give it a shot.

I think everyone is using 100 pushups you can download it from the google app store.  I got the free version, but there are paid versions as well.  Good luck!

First off - awfully sorry about your friend... Life is brutal sometimes...

Way to go on having a great month.  The real goal of the 30/31 challenge wasn't to work out to 30 times, it was to motivate you to take on new challenges and to gain both physical and mental strength.  You reaped tons of both.  Kudos to you and keep up the great work.

Fantastic to hear that things are going so well for you in your business and I am so sorry about your dog.  Losing a pet is hard...

However, getting busy with other things is really going to pay off for you on the injury front.  You gave yourself a change to heal and you will be stronger as a result.

Best wishes and congrats!
