Oh, and I hope I get an "I survived the shutdown" trophy

I agree.  I've had to endure a ton of whining form the talking heads on both sides saying it's the other guys fault.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to recover from it.  ;-)

Yup...I can't go to work.

2nd level management in air traffic here at PHX/P50. I've been deemed non-essential.

Sigh...at least I'm getting more sleep and my training is in the morning as opposed to after work.

It's beginning to affect the industry I work in. The FAA's registration office has been deemed non-essential (even though it was deemed "essential" in previous shut downs) so airplanes cannot be delivered to customers.

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association says scheduled deliveries during the next two weeks of about 135 aircraft worth nearly $1.4 billion are at risk if the registration office remains closed.

My boyfriend works at a private jet manufacturer and they simply are not getting paid for any deliveries during this time. That's a bunch of cash that is immediately impacting their operations.

Also:
Sikorsky will furlough 2000 workers if this is still going on by Oct. 7 (3 days away). I imagine other companies with large defense contracts will follow.

I have a project that requires a study by the FAA. Tried to call my contact there but she is off for the shutdown.

A few of my friends work for the federal government and they are off.

This article is about more specific impacts to the city I live in (where aviation is the main industry).

Sorry to be dominating this thread today, but now Lockheed and Boeing will begin furloughs next week as well. Not good for them or their suppliers.

Just curious if you were able to run on this trail over the weekend? Here in NE Ohio, they are ticketing people using the trails. I can't believe they are actually wasting resources on enforcing the closure of open air spaces.

No matter what side of the political spectrum you stand on, these closures are just petty and sticking it to the American people. We should all be demanding answers from our elected representatives at this point.

So is there any way to calculate how much money has been "saved" during this govt shutdown???  not sure saved is the right word, but you know what I mean?

a bunch of us did Seagull Century this weekend and went through Assateague Island in MD.  The only reason I do this ride is to see the Chincoteague ponies, but none were around.  The joke was guess the ponies got tucked away on the shutdown too.

But it was sad to see some of the volunteers for rest stops were rangers that WERE on furlough for the shutdown.  I chatted with a few of them and they are distraught to have their parks closed.

Between that and the Lockheed Martin pink slips, and being in the DC area where a bunch of my friends are gov't contractors, I find it really depressing.  I'm very concerned for my single income friends that are going to be hurting.

This is an interesting story about residents who live on Lake Mead in Nevada, which sits on Federal land, being told to evacuate.

“They are all vacation homes and everybody who lives in them are considered visitors,” she said. “If anybody needs to gather their personal belongings, we’re not going to deny them access. They can go do that. They just can’t spend the nights there or have barbecues during the day.

You mean to tell me that these folks can't use their vacation homes and have to make due with their regular homes??  That's horrible!!

By the same argument, the First Family should evacuate the White House.
