Hi team! Sounds like you are all having a good time. I just got back from a week of chaperoning (sp???) at a state 4-H event. I've had very little sleep, and very little training, but I'm in for a biggie tomorrow.

I am riding 47 miles with an elevation change of 1900 feet. Two very high mountain passes between me and the destination. There just happens to be a hotsprings pool at the end of this trek, so if I'm not feelin' too good, we'll take a quick dip.

Gotta go finish unpacking, cleaning up the house, etc. Off to bed early!

Hi Team - just a quick reminder that Monday July 14th is the LAST day of week one of the challenge.

It would be great if at this time you could make sure your google spreadsheet is up to date with your achieved and GOAL stages and distance/time for the week. (there are currently a few blank spaces on some of the teams)

I will get an interim result up in the forum on Wednesday assuming that whatever is in your team spreadsheet is the results for your team.

I have updated the spreadsheets so they are all calculating goals consistently across the board and as always if you have any questions let me know.

Your team spreadsheet is here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pfYL7DR_dx-BUDYckTTnqcw&hl=en

Hope everyone has had a great first week! Dont forget to keep supporting and inspiring your team mates - make sure you all keep in touch! 2 weeks left! (and feel free to stir up the other teams a bit too)

Jul 11 - Stage 7 - KIRCHEN AND LOVKVIST RETAIN JERSEY'S

Team Columbia's Kim Kirchen held on to the yellow jersey today in the seventh stage of the Tour de France.  Kirchen finished in the front group, just seconds behind solo winner Luis Sanchez.  Kirchen finished the day in fourth place, keeping both the maillot jaune and the green points jersey.  Lovkvist finished just behind the second group and  held onto the white "young riders jersey."

Don't you like the way they paint the bike to co-ordinate with the yellow jersey?  I like those sunglasses too.

I was able to make both hills on this ride without walking! We met Beth's husband at the Hotsprings Lodge where he had already ordered breakfast for us! That was awesome. I've never ridden so far, nor such a challenging route before.

That's awesome Heidi.  What's a 4-H event?

I also did my stage 4 (of 10) today.  All of scheduled rides for the week are now completed.

4-H is a youth organization begun in the US (there is 4-H in Canada, too) in 1904? to introduce new farming and home-making methods to youth. It has broadened over the past 100+ years to include such project areas as aerospace, photography, child development, etc.

The event I attended with our county delegation was Montana State 4-H Congress, where the winners of county contests convene to compete for a chance to go to nationals. They have workshops, do community service, meet new and old friends, etc. If you google 4-H, you can find a boatload of material to read.

The 4-H comes from this pledge:
I pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty;
My Hands to larger service, and my Health to better living;
For my club, my community, my country, and my world.

Great job getting your stages done! I'll try to update everybody tonight.

Personal Trainer, that is a heck of a compliment. The only reaction I got today on my ride was when two young lady golfers politely laughed at me when I ran off the road watching them swing. Good thing the mud puddle I went through wasn't deep.

Stage 3 done. I went a day early and farterh than I had anticipated today.

Jul 12 - Stage 8 - CAVENDISH AND CIOLEK CLINCH FIRST AND SECOND AT THE TOUR

A torrential downpour could not stop Briton Mark Cavendish from clinching a powerful bunch sprint win in the Tour de France on Saturday, with Team Columbia team-mate Gerald Ciolek in second.  Adding to Columbia’s satisfaction, Cavendish and Ciolek’s team-mates Kim Kirchen and Thomas Lovkvist are still leading overall and in the Best Young Rider’s competition.

For the 23-year-old Cavendish, his Toulouse stage win was his second victory in five days racing on the Tour, his ninth of the season and the 20th on the road in just 18 months as a professional.

The pack passes near the city of Rabastens during the eighth stage.

Okay everyone, week one is down, it is time for the tour to get heated up!!!  Lets get things rolling.

I put in a good effort in my race yesterday, so now taper/rest week is over (and the sprint season).

Time to kick up the volume and start a 9 week build up to a long course DU

Redknight - 2008-07-14 4:15 PM Patricia, Where do you get all the great photos from?

Various places - Team Columbia site, globe and mail, velonews, eurosport, etc..  You can usually tell the source when you right click on the pics.  Hope you're enjoying them as much as I am, I've always loved the colourful TdF pics.
