instigator - 2008-09-19 2:15 PM I signed up this morning. IMWI round 2!! And while I was at it I also signed up for the Triple T. I had so much fun suffering this year, that I thought IM training wouldn't be the same without it. Next year, someone prevent me from getting a voucher.

1stTimeTri - You don't happen to know someone at the NA sports offices, do you?  I've managed to find out that they have my check there, but am dealing with someone who won't answer my questions throroughly.  I just want to know when it will be processed.  I just want to see my name on the list already!!!

I may try calling them before the day is up to see what the deal is.  I'm done waiting around!  Yell

Sorry, no I don't.

After postponing the decision for awhile, I am now IN.  This will be my 8th IMWI.  It would seem a shame to break the streak.

I am probably going to attempt my first 100 miler next year, too, so I was not sure I'd be up for IM training and training for a 100 mile ultra at the same time, but what the heck.  The 100 miler will be in early June...plenty of time after that to ramp up the bike mileage for IM, right :-)

I also had my reservations about going to my 3rd IMWI. I swore during the race this year that I was done with the ironman distance. But after talking with my brother and friends I decided to tackle this adventure one more time.

In case anyone who got a voucher is still on the fence (with me), I talked to NAS this morning and they are NOT closing online registration today, due to the large number of people with issues.

Nichole, sorry I didn't answer your post sooner, just saw it now. But no, I never heard back from them via email.  Just the phone call I made this morning (I called to see what time they were closing registration.)

How to explain the Triple T? I have been called insane for doing it, it has also been referred to as being a quite impressive feat, and I was told by my coach that if I survived the Triple T, IM would be a breeze.

That is probably not what you were asking. The triple T is a race (well 4 races) put on by HFP Racing in Ohio on Memorial Day weekend. On Friday, you do a super sprint, Saturday AM is your first Olympic of the day, Saturday afternoon is your second Olympic but it is bike, swim, run instead of S/B/R, and on Sunday is a Half IM. All of the swims are in a nice spring feed lake that is usually cold. The half IM has a two loop swim where you get out of the water between similar to IM FL.

The bike is on paved fire roads and the course are all extremely hilly. Several of the climbs have switchback and screaming descents. Each of the race has a different course and the halfIM is 2 loops where you come back to transition for the only aid station on any of the bikes. The aid station is self supplied. You put bottles on a table and get off you bike to pick them up if you want them. The aid station looks like a SAG stop with tons of ppl of their bikes.

The run is a trail hilly trail run. For the oly and half IM, the course is a 6.5 out and back (you do it twice for the HalfIM) that has 3 aid stations. The run course is quite challenging as you have steep hills, long gradual hills, and a trail that has varied terrain from being washout to gravel to weird rocks to dirt.

You can race solo or as a team. If you race as team, you can draft off your partner on the second Oly and halfIM. Slowest time for the team counts.

It is an awesome race weekend. It is based in a state park and most ppl stay at the park. And you have the same rack space all weekend so you get to know those around you. The atmosphere is amazing and there is a ton of support from the other athletes. While, tons of super fast folks participate, they still welcome and cheer for us BOP (i was 6-8th from last in each race last year). Best of all it is $200 bucks for all four races. And you get a jeresy to race in all weekend. Check out HFP site for more info.

For me outseason starts Nov 3rd, crazy intense but low volume for 16 weeks...a couple of weeks of unstructured training, and then a 16 week training plan. Using Two plans from Endurancenation.us

I am still in my post IMWI month of unstructured training. However, the month will likely be extended to 5-6 weeks as I am having surgery next week that will have me out of commission for 1-2 weeks. After that I will use what left of Oct, Nov, and Dec to do some none IM specific training -- mtn biking, trail running, adventure racing. During this time I will likely be swimming 2-3 times a week (I am a fish so its hard to cut back here) and 2 workouts each of bike and run. I will likely also start weights and make an attempt to get serious about core training with pilates, yoga and the like.

Come Jan 1, I will start a huge bike focus IM training program!!

CindyK - 2008-09-25 2:40 PM So, when does everyone start thier official training?

I've started, per my coach, on the first of my two by 20-week plan.

Wow, I already feel like I'm behind.  My coach told me do something fun...yoga, classes, etc...mix it up with strength training and building up my swim distance, bike and run when I feel like it.  He's putting me on 6 ish months of formal training.

I feel kinda pointless right now!

Right now I am marathon training.  After that (November 15), is recovery/maintenance and then we'll do some snowboarding.  Official training starts 30 weeks out, which I think is the first week in February.

I'm recovering from a bike injury/training for a marathon now, then planning a very easy November to rest and recover, then will start HIM training sometime in December. That will ultimately roll right into the IM training in the winter. I need to hire a coach, I haven't had time to start my search yet.
