You mean like this year?

Haha, TRUE. Oh well. You gotta stick with your team though, even when they stink. You're a Liverpool fan? Gerrard is actually one of my favorite players to watch. El Nino (Torres) was a great acquisition for them and I really like Robbie Keane, but of course that's because of his Hot Spurs days.

Yeah, I'm not too happy with Keane's lack of contribution in the net so far, but if he assits to 10-15+ goals for Torres alone I'll be happy.

And on that note, Keane finally scores!!!  I didn't get to listen today since I was on a conference call all afternoon, but it looks like it might have been a good match.  Thankfully.

Buddhabuddha - 2008-09-29 9:26 AM on the bright side, I PR'd in a 5k yesterday, and then my soccer team won 5-0 so sunday was a better day.

Nice.

I'm going to try to find an indoor league close to the house.  Hopefully a co-ed one.  Not looking for competition, just exercise and fun.

I can't do non competative... but I also cant do the top league anymore...  it sux...

Yeah, I'm not that good.  I only do it for fun.

However, I did stop a goal from an ex-pro from Poland once.  Once.  And then he proceeded to score on me about 5 more times in that match!!   But it was all good.

Awesome game. I was also in meetings all day but saw the highlights this morning on ESPN. Keane had a nice goal as well as a missle from Gerrard off a free kick.
They looked really good.

Good lord.  Coming back from a 2-0 deficiet to win 3-2.  Thank goodness for Kuyt!  But it looks as if we have lost a valuable defender in the process.  Skrtel might be out for quite a while.  Oh dear.

And Hull wins again?!?!?  Really?!?!  Where the heck are they coming from.

This truly is going to be a very, VERY interesting season.

And now, it is a week or two of international play.

Thanks for bumping the thread, Crowny. Yeah, I watched the Liverpool/MC game and it was great. Torres was so close to the hat trick--that must me much more rare than in hockey. And yes, bummer about the injury. That didn't look good.

Hull City is a great story. None of the pre-game guys saw that coming--for the second week in a row. It's cool seeing them so close to the top in the league table.

I can't see it lasting for much longer fur Hull, but stranger things have happened.

I'm really going to love this season if Liverpool continues to play like this.  In years past, they would have either lost this match or settled for the draw.  Instead, they continued to press and got the 3, keeping them tied with Chelski.

As for the weekend - I thought Sparky ( mark Hughes - mgr of Man City) was naive - should have taken Jo out at half time, he was useless - left 2 up front and dropped another into midfield in a holding role...'pool would never have been able to steal that game..mind you - they are scousers and if its not nailed down......

Have you seen the Crouch goal for Portsmouth? Bicycle kick by a beanpole...excellent skill...Ibrahimovic also scored a corker for Inter.....its on youtube

I have not!  Good lord, that must have taken half the match for his leg to get up that high!

I'm gonna have to check that out.  I can't even wrap my head around him doing one.  HA!  Can't wait to see it.

Crouch.... what a player he is considering his build! I didn't see the goal but have seen many cracking goals he's scored. He really is a stick (a long one), not the image you have in your mind of a goal scorer in the EPL.

I'm currently flipping between the Kazakstan v. England match and the OU v. Texas game.  I've been lucky enough to see the Ferdinand header (totally untouched) and then the Kaz OG.  Oops.

Anyway, even though it is 2-0 this is not a pretty match for England.  They should be dominating this team and they aren't.  Two scores off set pieces but really nothing created on the move.  Doesn't bode well for 2010 for them.  And as I write this, Kazakstan just scored.  Terribly poor defending.  Just terrible on Ashley Cole's part.  Should NOT be this close.

Doubt I will get to see the USMNT v. Cuba tonight but it should be a good one.  Supposedly, two Cuban players are already missing.

5-1 England.  Was MUCH closer than the score.

Yeah, I was bouncing back-and-forth between TX-UO and the football match also. I actually quit switching after the OG made it 2-0. I was thinking the same thing..why is this so close--nil-nil at half?

England were shabby in the first half - scored from a couple of set pieces and then the Kazi's gave up...until then, once again - the midfield of Lampard and Gerrard was useless - they bring no pace to the game, can't beat a player, turn so slowly we should name then "exxon" and "valdez" - the 40-50 yard raking passes are usually a turnover - they also shut out Walcott after the first 20 mins - the only player who looked like trouble for the Kazi's every time he got the ball. We need new blood - unfortunately until the current golden boys fail ( yet again) it wont get introduced...too much pressure to get results immediately....

You might be right.  A bit biased about Gerrard, but I just don't think he and Frank mesh.  When one is on the pitch without the other, for some reason they seem to do better.  At least that has been my perception.  Then again, I can't stand fat Frank (term of endearment, really it is!).

Capello has his work cut out for him and always has.  England has some real quality players, however, it feels like they are holding onto the senior players a bit too much.  SWP has incredible pace, and some of the others really showed promise (even Ashley Cole's lapse that resulted in the Kazi goal).

Personally, I think the younger players should start to see more and more time in matches because those listed above will be 2 years older when 2010 roles around, and I just don't think they are going to cut it.

Bloody hell.

Back to back 3-2 come from behind victories.  This does not do my heart any good.  Not.  At.  All. (Liverpool has got to stop giving the other teams a 2-0 head start!)

Hull continues to win.  They keep this up, and they will stay up this year, no questions asked.

Chelsea also continues to win.  In very convincing fashion.

Man United has unfortunately started to move up the table.  Knew it wouldn't last long, but a fella can dream, can't he?

And how far has Tottenham fallen.  Seriously.  Bottom of the league.  Also, they came out last week with PR that they were "joining up" with San Jose in the MLS.  Wow.  Two teams that couldn't be more suited for each other.  Both at the bottom of their tables.  Yuck!

So the only big game coming up this weekend is going to be Chelsea v. Liverpool which will give one of them top of the table, unless a draw happens.    The rest of the matches are bottom v top or bottom v bottom.

So gents, up with the opinions.  Whathca thinking about this coming weekend, or are you not looking past the Champions League matches midweek?

Okey dokey.

Helloooooooo..... any footy fans left in here or are they all absorbed in the politics threads.  Sheesh.

So, nobody responded to the post above but how about this one since it deals with more than just the EPL.

CHAMPION'S LEAGUE!!!!

Three down three to go in the group stages.  So far, no huge surprises.

Thoughts.  Fears.  Comments.

I'll start.

Listened to the Liverpool v. Atletico Madrid match today.  *sigh* our backfield again is letting us down.   In the past we were known for our defense and clean sheets.  Now we are having to actually score to win (in other words, we have an offense but the defense is starting to slip).  I still don't know if this is all a good thing or a bad thing.  i guess only time will tell.

How about your team.  how did they do?
