That road's seen better day, huh?

I came down with the flu ~3 days before Redman. Bummer since I live about 2 miles from the start/finish. Coming back down this year?

Probably not. I'd love to because I had a BLAST last year, but honestly the Halfmax Championship thing is really intimidating. Being that they're only accepting a few hundred "general" entries, I really don't want to find myself in the midst of all those atletes vying for a national championship trophy! I'd surely look like an idiot putting along at my measly 15mph... and 10-minute-miles. I may do the Oly with my tri club, but we'll see.

I'm actually thinking about Austin 70.3 for my late season HIM - it's better timing for me.

While there will surely be some impressive athletes at RedMan this year, some of the qualifiers will be mere mortals like me.

However, while I was planning on doing RedMan again this year, scheduling might not work out. My training partner is talking about Austin as well, so I'll have to figure that out.

On a Kansas 70.3 note, Ryan's last post got me off my butt and I finally registered today.

Yeah, I am planning on doing Redman this year and just like wingsfan, even though I qualified, it doesn't mean I am fast. . I bet we could say that for about 90% of the qualifiers.  Anyway, Austin is a good race I hear, but man is that a long way down there.  OKC is so much easier to get to and back.  Austin, takes a lot more planning and effort. .  For a 70.3, I would rather stick closer to home.

^^^ Mr. Modest was fast enough to be the first person I met coming the other way on the bike at RedMan (by about 2 minutes).

There will be plenty of slower people there. Don't forget it's the club championships too - you could do the sprint or oly.

But I need advice on how to get my bike to the KC metro. Appreciate your thoughts.

UPS or Fedex, or on the airplane.  Those would probably be the best way.  Just find someone to ship it to a week before and hold for you till you get here to race.

If you can fly southwest, the last I knew they were the cheapest for bringing your bike on a plane, and I believe they fly to Kansas City. When I flew with them last year it was *only* $50 each way. A lot of other airlines charge $150+ each way. Fedex and UPS might be about the same, I'm not sure because I've never shipped a bike.

The one thing that I've always done when flying my bike is get there EXTRA early, and then ask them if they will screen the bike while you are watching. They will always inspect a bike, and if you are there when they do it, then you can make sure it's packaged correctly when they are done.

Hope that helps!

For anyone fairly local...
We are thinking about a practice ride/swim weekend at Clinton Lake over Memorial Day weekend. Let me know if you're interested or want to meet up to ride the course with us!

I know there are some of us here in Nebraska that want to come down at least once and swim/ride/run on the course before race day.  Jeff and I were thinking about coming down in April and again in May, don't really have any dates in mind yet.  It feels like May right now in southeast Nebraska, sunny and mid 70s, hope to get my bike out later today.

Guys,
Keep your calendars open for the weekend of April 18th-19th. I am planning a group ride/run that weekend...just like last year. 100% free with an aid station on the ride. This is the same weekend as the Kansas Half Marathon. My plan is to hold the 56 mile bike on Saturday and then comp all IMKS athletes into the Half Marathon the next day...if they want to make it monster weekend.

A schedule something like this...

Saturday-April 18th
1:00 pm
Group ride leaving from T-1
56 mile IMKS course
FREE!

6:00 pm
Group dinner
Pasta
umm not free...your on your own!

Sunday
7:30 a.m.
Kansas Half Marathon
Choice between 13.1 - 6.2 -3.1 run.
FREE!

Let me know the interest level...last year we had approximately 170 athletes show up for the group ride...let's just say it took me by surprise;!

Only reason Ben was out there, was because his EnduraCamps group happened to be riding out there on the same day.  His camp this year is May 15-17.
