week 1 done.  I have to say that I like it.  Some of the aerobics are not for me, but the DVDs are good, the weight training good.  I was able to pretty much keep up on the aerobics, but some of the jumping seems un-called for.  Ready to see if I made even small progress going into week 2.  Still running, biking, swimming, but just not as much.  I like this variety.  When next year comes around I will be prepared for Tri's I think.

The jumping (plyo) is supposed to help with explosive power.  However,  If you are enjoying everything except that .....Kick it to the curb and press on with pride.

week 2 complete.  (I still have a rest day)  Things are going good, still like it.  I am starting to see some changes, all good.  I have a Tri this weekend, so that might change my schedule a little bit, but I am going to keep up with the strength days as much as possible.

Bring it!

I have to admit, I have not read this entire thread. I have recently seen some progress pics of a guy I know and the results are amazing. I want to order this, but have a couple of questions.1) Are the ones listed on ebay for about $80 the same as the ones on the website for $120?2) Is it realistic to think I can do P90x, 3 - 1hr bikes, 3 runs, and 2 swims a week? I mean if I can find the time is this something that is practical? or is P90x too rigorous to add much else to?3) What equipment is needed? 4) Is this something I can watch at home, take notes, and go to the gym to do?5) What else do I need to know? Thanks,Chris

I believe they are the same. You may not get a few books, but there are free sources of progress sheets, etc.

2) Is it realistic to think I can do P90x, 3 - 1hr bikes, 3 runs, and 2 swims a week? I mean if I can find the time is this something that is practical? or is P90x too rigorous to add much else to?

If you only do the weight lifting portion, you should be able to keep up with your Tri workouts, otherwise it sounds like alot, but I have doubled up the cardio on a number of days to get in Tri training, but I have no set amount I am trying to get in.

3) What equipment is needed?

Pull-up/chin-up bar and an assortment of dumbells

4) Is this something I can watch at home, take notes, and go to the gym to do?

Yes for the weight lifting days, I don't see why not

5) What else do I need to know? Thanks,Chris

Bring it. Haha. Not much else, the workout are pretty good, the cardio ones are good also, so is the ab workout. You will like it.

If you wanted to save time and do it at home you need a pull up bar and dumbbells or bands and about 10 ft of space.  The workouts are all about 1 hr give or take and burn approx. 600 cals.  Can you do it all?  Heck if I don't know, but if you do YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!

1) I recently found a new P90X on ebay for $60 shipped 'buy it now'.  I paid for it and then the seller was delisted.  I figured I got ripped off but it came in the mail about 2 weeks later from China.  Don't buy pretty much anything from china as there are lots of scams.  I just got lucky I guess.

2) I attempted to do P90X while marathon training.  Once my miles got above 25 per week, I had to drop P90X and focus on the running.  I now plan to start a circuit of P90 with very light s/b/r and then focus on triathlon training in late January.  I find I can't do anything while on P90 but I'm 41 years old.

3) I have a pull up station and a full set of dumbbells (bowflex adjustables).  That and a bench are all you need, you'll never go to the gym again (for weight lifting anyway).

4) P90X is designed for the home.  I've heard of people that will bring a laptop to a gym and do plyo or kenpo in an aerobics studio.  I just don't get why you'd get in the car to do that.

5) Get your equipment ready and press play.

My official start day is today and I will be doing the lean program, for my cardio I will be doing bike riding around 130 miles weekly to build my bike base. I did my testing last night along with my pictures and measurements, pictures are very telling, although my measurements left me scratching my head , my right arm is 1/2 in larger, my left leg is 1 in larger, WTF? I will be using bands only(due mostly to extensive travrel) lean program and will be posting my weekly progress if anyone is interested on the effectiveness of the bands and incorporating alternative cardio workouts. My diet plan is very strict for the first 30 days and right from the book using the low end of my calorie range for phase 1. Tonight I will start with Core Synergistics, and I also will be using HR.

Good luck on your training.  I am working on week 3, but I did a Tri on Sunday, so that has tossed off my schedule a bit.  Going to try and do a little catchup tonight to get back on track.  Ready to press play!

I restarted again today.  I am gaining way too much weight and have been really inconsistent with my workouts; however, I'm giving it another try.  I fell into a downward cycle after an injury in May/June while training for Eagleman and haven't been consistent in diet or exercise since then.  My plan is to do moderate aerobic work in the morning and P90X in the evening.

You absolutely don't need the cardio workouts if you're doing tri training. In fact, you'd likely find them to be rather easy.

Personally, for my off-season training, I do the following each week: an abbreviated version of the three strength workouts (half the number of exercises, but pushing hard with no breaks, so that each workout is under 30 minutes); three ab ripper sets; one plyometric workout; and about the first 1/2 hour of the yoga routine. That's quite a bit of strength training, yet it's very efficient--less than four hours per week--leaving me a good amount of time for my aerobic base training.

I'd suggest giving plyo a couple more shots before abandoning it. Of all of the workouts in P90X, that's the one (pretty much the only one) that'll be of direct benefit to your s/b/r training (particularly your running). The others are certainly good for general fitness, losing weight, and improving your physique, but plyo is definitely the most useful one for actual training for tris.

I'm starting P90 next week and I was wondering whether to get resistance bands or some dumbbells. I'm working on a pretty tight budget and I know that the bands are cheaper, but I am worried that I won't get enough resistance out of them. Any suggestions from you P90X veterans out there?

If that is your concern than you may have to get several different bands. I have three(green, red, brown) I just started this week and have done two workouts with bands, I would say I found one exercise akward on core syngergistics because of the way you have to turn the wrists during the exercise, but I can live with that as compared to spending twice as much as the program costs getting dumbels. The bands are effective, I found once you get the hang of them you can change length and position rather quickly and you will be waiting for Tony to catch up. You have to wear shoes, its not pretty if the band slips out from under your foot, it has already happened to me. There is allot of switching exercises, with weights that equals allot of "pickem up and putem down" risking a back injury, I pick up my bands with one finger. I am enjoying a great workout with them, and I have been lifting weights for over 30 years also to compete in powerlifting, if used properly they do work.

The bands work well unless you are going for a body building look.

Bought the bands and pull up bar yesterday and husband installed it today. I could do a pull up with my foot on a chair. Going to do testing tomorrow and start...I think my husband is going to do it with me too.

No cyclocross race for 2 weeks so I'm good with being sore next two weeks.

So if you are going to r/b/s as well as doing P90X which would you recommend doing first in the day?

I'm thinking chest/back and AB Ripper X would work.  I would cut the cardio and just do the strength.  P90X calls that the "lean" version.

What I meant was if I'm going to run (or swim or bike)  and do P90X which should I do first in the day run or P90X?

I was planning on doing the lean version.

Sorry about that.  I would do the S/B/R first since that is the primary thing.  It may limit your strength in P90X (doubtful but possible),  but I think I would want to gauge my runs/bikes and swims on real time.

so after reading up on the p90x website i was kinda doubtful i could manage both the workouts and getting the time in everyday to do them. so i ordered the Power 90. hope that is going to work for me, its been a looong time since i did any strength training of any sort. the power 90 should be here next week. the other bonus being that my wife is half interested in having a go herself.

cheers
