I am in off season mode, which will include 2 bike classes (bike on trainer) classes per week, and master's swim...

my official training plan starts end of January - I have one from here and an ironguides plan (plus I still have the endurance nation plan I used last year).  The ironguides plan is pretty much opposite of how I have been working but intrigued me enough to try it....

so what I will actually do?? we shall see!!!!

Was thinking about doing this as my first HIM. Did the Olympic Distance at this same venue in 2007 and loved it. Did one Sprint distance this year and now want to try the HIM. One question.....What is the time limit to finish?

i believe it's 7 or 8 hours after the start of the last wave of swimmers.

Hello, all.  I did this race in 2008, and am thinking about doing it again in 2010.  I have 2 friends who are signed up already.  I was toying with doing the Knoxville Rev3 just prior...will have a few decisions to make.

My race in '08 was slow (~7:50) - but made worse by the fact that it rained during my time on the bike, soaking my shoes.  By the time I'd finished a 5k on the run, I had blisters on both feet (literally on the entire bottom of both feet).  I ended up walking almost the entire way.

I enjoyed the bike and swim.  The run...not so much.  The swim is warm and fast.  The bike is generally fast - and for those who come from a state with hills, you'll swear that it's pancake flat.  For Floridians like me, there's a section of the course that has some rollers, with one or two tougher hills mixed in.  Nothing too bad, though.

The run is a mix of pavement and x-country.  It's crowded.  Hot.  Dusty.  But, if you're prepared for it mentally, it isn't too bad.  My lesson learned:  put running shoes & socks into big ziplock bags so they don't get soaked in transition while biking.

Good luck to all, and happy training!

This will be my first HIM.  I am looking foward to it.  I have encountered one problem.  I signed up and paid the money for this race without first checking to see when my daughter's graduation is from NC State in Raleigh, NC.  Well the race is on the 16th and the graduation is on the 15th.  I can get to the race with no problems.  My issue is getting my bike into transition on Saturday 10AM - 6PM.   I don't know as of yet if I can get a flight back to Orlando and get the bike to Disney by 6PM on Saturday.  According to their website this is a firm rule.  I live in Orlando so the issue is getting back in time on Saturday.  I may ask for someone who is coming down or lives here to help me with the bike.  Any takers?  I live 20 minutes from Disney and if I could get to know someone between now and race time I would appretiate the help.  I went on here and sent a couple of people who are registered a private PM.  Hoping I figure out a solution.

My family and I are trying to fit a nice holiday in around doing this race. Does anyone know of a good place to get discount Disney or Universal Studios tickets?

Another question...(sorry if it has already been asked) What is the expected water temperature in May? Will the race be wetsuit legal?

the racesite has a link to a travel agency that is offering discounts - I only reserved a room as I don't think I am bringing the kids...but that could change....

71 is perfect for a wetsuit, so maybe you meant 81???

from the website course info:
The water is expected to be 78-82 F on race day

so no wet suit  - speed suit time

This race will not be wetsuit legal.  We'll have had more than ample 90+ degree days to warm the water up by race day.

Yes.  There's a listing of approved speedsuits on the USAT site.  I think they are approved for all races.

Good luck to you.  I live 20 minutes from Disney and I am doing the race.  If you have any questions about the course or the area post to the thread.  I am the opposite of you.  I have been running and riding. I need to get in the pool!

Thought I'd jump in and add what I'm doing to get ready for what will be my 1st HIM..!!  A great Christmas gift came my way that will allow me to get a new 2010 Cervelo S1 that I'm fitting with Profile D. aero bars and a tri-position seatpost.
Training is going well with a combination of P90X (yoga, cardio, core, and kenpo) and the new Insanity DVD's.  I also use the TRX Suspension trainer - amazing core on this thing.  I do a short run (5mi to 10k) mid-week and then a long run (8 to 10mi) on the weekend.  With the Indiana weather the way it is right now I'm on my rollers with the bike putting in sessions of 1 to 2 hrs at a time.  Swim at least once a week right now.
I'm going to do an indoor triathlon in Feb with some 10k events in April.  I'm also going to run a Half Marathon in mid-April to get fired up for May.
Looking forward to this trip and chance to do as best as possible in Florida.  Wish everyone the very best in your training...!!!
Happy New Year

20 Week countdown started Sunday of this week.  I have plans to increase my swimming now.  My biking and running are good.  I am doing about 25-30 miles running.  13 mile run every couple of weeks.  I just completed a half marathon 1st week in December.  I am doing another at end of January.  I completed a century ride in October.  I am doing a minimum long ride of at least 50 once per week.  Getting over 100 miles per week on most weeks.  Swimming is where I have to keep pushing.

I to got a nice new bike to ride in the event.  A Felt B12.  Really looking foward to this race.

Hi all!
I just signed up and this will be my first HIM. Hubby might join me but is currently deployed to Iraq... not much chance to swim there! I've done sprints before and spent most of the winter training for the Las Vegas marathon. At this point I'm just hoping to survive that race!
