Triathlete Nation ~ Texas! | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread dodgersmom - 2010-03-25 8:14 AM I am just nervous. Lots of life issues distracted me from the training I should have been doing. I know independantly I can do all 3 distances. It's putting them together that is scaring the crap out of me right now. and weather... there are several of us in this boat, myself included. You'll be golden... just do what ya can, and you may surprise yourself on race day. No March or April 70.3's for me again after this one... Just doesn't work as well for me schedule wise, weather wise, etc... |

I had a time goal for this one, it's now just to finish and have fun because I'm not trained to hit the time I wanted to. Bummer! Next year I'm scheduling my longer races in the fall. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread 3.5 weeks now folks! How's training going? I live in MA next to RI who has epic 100 year floods. They have to close down the interstate due to flooding. But tomorrow it will be nice and throughout the weekend wonder how the roads I ride on will be? I've been able to get some nice longer rides in last two weeks with some moving things around on my training plan. Friday I'm doing a race simulation brick 3:30 to see how possible watts on bike and pace of the bike feel and help determine race pacing. I'm excited for that plus I have a couple other longer rides and a 2 hour run this week. All winter I wondered why I signed up for this now I'm excited as my training has progressed and will be fun way to kick off '10 tri season. How are you guys doing? We still need to come up with a place to meet up for lunch after the Oly Saturday. |

Expert 790 | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread I guess I'm in a minority here.... I think my training has gone pretty well all winter. I was able to ride 3 days a week outdoors all winter (Houston) and only missed 2 or 3 rides due to the weather. A lot of the rides were shorter than I would have liked, 20 miles or so, due to time constraints. I am still questioning my training and putting all three events together on the same day since this my first HIM. Can't wait....... this is going to be a loooong three weeks. |

Veteran 158 Grapevine, Texas | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread Looks like I might be out. Still not 100% sure, but I'm having massive shin/calf/soleus muscle pain. Could be another stress fracture... really, really, REALLY hoping it's not the stress fracture, but we'll see. Does anyone know if they're going to do an aquabike, or would it be just an informal drop out after the bike? |

They do not have a formal aquabike, but I am doing my own just having recovered from a stress fracture...I've never DNF'ed a race before, but am looking at it as a long training day....I paid, I may as well have some fun. How many folks register for 70.3 in the last two weeks before an event? Weather is great here in MA just finished up a 2 hour run |

Member 11 The Woodlands | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread The race is a mere 3 short weeks away..... I did a 5K trail run today (The Woodlands Muddy Trails Run). I know it's only a 5K, but I finished in 2nd place in my age group and 9th overall. The first time I have EVER placed in a race. It is a confidence booster as it shows all of this work the last 4 months is helping me improve. And having my kids come with me to receive my medal for my 2nd place finish was priceless!!! |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread I'm not going to worry about it but I'm a big fan of my wetsuit and racing in it. Seems RD are usually able to find a reading that allows wetsuits. Depends how deep they go to take temperature and how close to the shore and surface reading is taken. |

Ok thanks, "Ms. Odd One Out" I'm w/ you Trevor. I want my wetsuit. It helps me relax and focus on my stroke. I have never been nor will I ever be a swimmer. It's just the path I have to take to the rest of the race! |

Triathlete Nation ~ Texas! | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread It's all good. It WILL be wetsuit legal... me personally, it doesn't really matter as I am prepared for both scenerios in swim and suit. But for the die hard wetsuiters, you'll be wearing it 'legally'... I have no doubts. Keep the faith peeps. Gettin' closer! woot woot! |

I felt like I was going to overheat at Longhorn without a wetsuit! I also can't believe it's almost here - I feel like it really sneaked up on me! |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread It's going to be over 80 tomorrow and my plan has just a swim so asked my coach if I can run in heat of the day tomorrow..he said sure. I am trying to run as much as possible when it's hot here in MA to help me prepare a little for warmer TX weather. One nice thing about IM races compared to HIMs is run is typically cooler for BOPers where HIMs we run mid day when it's hot in HIMs. Do you guys that have done the race before remember on run was the water cold? Did they have ice you could take? What the weather was like start of race? on bike? on run? Any shade on the run? |

Kathy, I can't comment on this race, but the first year I did the Longhorn HIM in Austin (put on by the same race director) it was scorching hot at the race. I was back of the pack (finished in 7:20) and at each aid station on the run course there was not only cold water, but ICE. And the volunteers would come out and ask what I wanted and have it ready when I got there. I know they had sponges the second year. Keith puts on a good race, so I would expect he will have a plan to take care of things. |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread Keep in mind that we'll be doing 4 x ~3 mile loops. Last year, I remember several sponge stations and one station (towards the end of the loop) with an ice cold towel for your neck. I loved that station. Edited by erin_trail 2010-04-07 1:36 PM |
