With my boys, sometimes it's more about the look (bleached white) and the texture than taste.  Yes, on the recipe, sounds good.

On another subject does anyone have a recommendation for a good bike trainer?  I thought Santa was going to get me one, but it seems she didn't take the hint, so I'll have to go out and buy my own.  I was hoping for something in the 200-300 range, but can go higher.

well fluid is the way to go... magnetic trainers are to noisy.. they don't feel as smooth as a fluid.. i have owned both..

i have a cyclops II fluid trainer.. they're several brands out.. make sure you get a small fan and a sweat band.. u will need them.. static air.. you will seat like crazy..

I am in for the white-flour, sugar challenge.  I am starting my hardcore diet and exercise routine tomorrow so this is perfect.

Question on using my trainer regarding my back wheel. I used my trainer for the first time today. When I finished, I noticed a new groove had been made on my back tire. It was in the middle and you could tell some of the rubber had worn away from friction. Is this normal when using a trainer?

Yes it is normal. A friend has an extra rear wheel exclusively for the trainer with a worn tire, I think it's pretty good idea.
The trainer will wear the heck out of your rear tire. Just leave that already worn rubber on your bike and when it's time to ride on the streets, then replace it for a new one. Just don't throw away the old one, you might have to reverse the procedure.

It is probably worth buying the ugliest, least expensive wheel you can find and put a trainer tire on it (yes, they make them).

It will last FOREVER and cost is minimal for the wheel - ask your LBS if they have any throwaways and maybe get one for $20 $30 bucks then add the trainer tire.

I just keep my roadie on my trainer all year long now.  When I'm outside I exclusively ride my tri bike because i like to stay in aero and tweak my position.

Forgot to mention, I'm relatively hidden on facebook, but if anyone wants to connect there, I post a lot of status updates about my training, pictures, etc. Would be happy to connect, I have to friend you though due to my bizarre privacy settings.

Having a 2.5 year old, we're doing nothing special tonight.  So I'm going to set my trainer up in front of Dick Clark and do an hour or so.

Anyone else still hitting it today and tomorrow?

Woke up early this morning and rode about 25 minutes on the trainer. Tried to swim but the pool at school is closed until January 10. Looks like a lot of time on the trainer and runnin on the road for me the next 10 days.

I will intensely train by snowboarding as often as possible until February.

Until then...I will purchase a bike and get my pool membership setup so I can begin right on time.

Stick to my training plans - whatever they come out to be in total.

I'd guess it'll be 400,000+ swim meters, run 1000ish, and 4500 miles bike.

A lot of that will be IM training.

Yegads. I'm not sure I want to add it all up just yet - I've got a marathon training program until April 10, then IM training. Not really sure I want to know the elevation of that particular mountain.

I am planning on consistently getting out there six days a week, though... I'll be accountable for that.

Today was a 2 1/4 hour spinning class - boorah!

Great way to look at things!  If you go out there that often and do something, you'll make great progress.

Ran into a little problem the other day and meant to post about it but forgot.  Anyways, I am back at school studying for these things they call senior comprehensive exams which test you over your major and minor over the past 4 years.  Went to the pool and a sign was posted saying that the pool is closed until January 10!  This was last Wednesday.  Now I am wondering, should I just focus on biking and running until then or is there something I should be doing so as to not lose much of my swimming strength and endurance (what little I have that is)?

I would not sweat it. Take a few days to focus on biking and running, you won't lose much if any if you keep your general cardio fitness up.

If you are already doing strength training, try some rows to engage the lats (the muscles you should be working while swimming).

Just wanted to post and say that I'm FINALLY back from my 2 week holidays. Got in lots of relaxing and I'm ready to get back to training first thing tomorrow morning! Hope everyone else had a great holiday season. Did a bit of treadmill running while I was away but nothing too major. I have some treadmill and resistance planned for tomorrow. Tuesday I am planning on going swimming if the university pool is fixed. Fingers crossed!

Yep- welcome back.Holidays are over friends... let's get to training. We've all got races coming sooner than we expect. My formal training plan begins in less than 3 weeks for Eagleman. In the meantime I hope to get volume in to be ready for it.

I have not quite decided what races I am going to do yet. However, I am getting in as much volume as I can. The main reason being for no decision is I do not know where I am going to end up after finishing school. Until then, the search continues.

WHen do you finish?  Where are you now?

The main race company near me (Va Beach) opens registration tomorrow AM so I'll pick a couple and get them out of the way.

I finish up in May. I am in west central Indiana right now but am originally from Souther Indiana, right across the border from Louisville, where IMKY is. Have been contemplating signing up for it but being it is my second year of tri's I wanna make sure I am fully prepared to tackle an Iron distance race. I am hoping to end up in the Indianapolis area so hopefully I get something settled before graduation.
