Lumber Dad - 2009-12-18 8:45 PM I have a few races so far:

I want to do the Chicago Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon in Aug if I can find a hotel downtown.

Green Bay 1/2 Marathon in May

We have a duathlon here in town in May.

Wausau has a triathlon here in Aug that will be my 11th year in a row.

In Feb there is the Badger State Games. Not sure which event I will do this year; snowshoe, CC skiing, trail run or quadrathlon.Depends on the snow.

I am thinking I am going to be doing either the Green Bay 1/2 marathon or the Madison 1/2 or maybe even both!

Good morning everyone. 5k Animal Rescue run this am.  Was hoping for under 22 minutes.  Finished 20.51  Not a PR (19.09-25 years ago) but good for an old man.  1st in age group and 14th overall.  Fun family event-my 16 year old son ran 17.15 and finished 2nd overall (his PR for 5k is 16.19).  We also won 2 door prizes.  FUN

That's excellent!!! Super spee-dee family!!! My 9 year old daughter wanted to run a 5k so we ran one together last summer. It was a great time!

Door prizes were "Margarita Mixer"-basically a lime green blender with all accessories needed to make some marqs.  I like a good party but not much into margarita's-may end up re-gifting this one.  Other prize was gift certificate to local restaurant.  Good cause so I was glad to buy some extra raffle tickets.

Easy 40 mile ride on the agenda for tomorrow.  Hope it warms up nicely as I dont have much cool/cold weather riding gear.  Suppose to be mid 50's-I know that is July weather for you cold midwestern and northeast folks.

What sort of tri gear is on everyone's santa list this year???

Hey congrats on your 5k! That's awesome...running is definitely my weak point and I want to pull down my times a bunch this year.As for tri gear on my list...I really only asked for rollers. Everything else gets a bit personal and I like to pick it out by myself. I'm a bit particular when it comes to clothing etc. But you know I won't complain if I get some for free!

Congratulations on a great race! You can send the Margarita Mixer my way, I would have no trouble finding a home for it.

I asked for a Timex Ironman watch --- don't have a pool-safe watch right now.

List to my supportive wife included a maintainance stand so I could do basic repais and adjustments on my bike, triathlon cycling shoes and some other little stocking stuffers like Gu Chomps and chamois butter.  I ordered the items online and promptly turned the items over when they arrived so I could open the gifts Christmas morning.

I think my wife is somewhat amused by my ever growing infatuation with the sport over the past 9 months.  Now instead of asking "Are you swimming/running/biking in the morning?"  she asks "what costume are you wearing tomorrow morning?".  Pretty funny or maybe I am just too dense to acknowledge the dig

No tri gear this year. I think I have been in the sport long enough that I have most of what I need. although my shoes do need replacing, they are getting close to 600 miles.

Good Monday morning everyone!

I suppose it will be quiet around here this week, everyone getting ready for the holiday or heading out of town.

Hope everyone gets rested up and is ready to get into training  with the start of the New Year.

Good morning!

Yeah...easy 45 min swim today.  Went for a 30 minute run yesterday.  Slow, but kept getting little aches and pains that would come and go.  I think it may be attributed to the fact that I have been breaking in my new hard orthodics and then didn't run in them yesterday.  Not sure...OR it could be that I'm not used to running after this long break!

As you said, I should be keeping with my training until Friday...then four days off of biking and swimming.  Try to get a run in every other day while visiting family up in VT.

Room for one more?

NAME:  bruthfred 78 - Beth

STORY:  31 y/o, live in NJ.
FAMILY STORY:  Married w/4 cats.

Welcome fellow NJian!  (Although, I don't live in NJ anymore)

Have you considered doing Randolph Lake Triathlon?  My stepsister did that for two years. It was her first triathlon, and I believe she said it was a good course for a new triathlete. I think it happens in July(?).  When you do your mini-sprint, you could do the Sprint. :-)

Thanks!  I see that you are headed to NJ for the holidays.  I live in South Jersey, close to Philadelphia.  I'm sure you've heard we just got hit with a huge blizzard - 2 feet of snow!!!  Please be safe in your travels.  I haven't really considered any other triathlons other than the Mini Sprint.  Races make me incredibly nervous, so I just want to get my feet wet with the first one and see how I make out (read: finish).

Needless to say, the blizzard kept me indoors on Saturday (gym was closed as well), but I was able to do my workouts yesterday and today.  I'm staying local for the holidays, so I'll be able to work out according to plan.

I just started the Couch to Sprint plan and I'm in my 4th week.  I've been doing the core #1 workouts according to the plan, but I'm wondering if it's okay that I've had to modify some of the exercises so that I can do them?  The pushups with the feet on the stability ball are NOT happening, so I just do "girlie" pushups (knees on floor) instead.  Is this okay or am I abnormally weak?  I'm assuming that I'll be able to do them (and more than one set of them) once I get stronger?

Not much happening on my end.  Just trying to stay consistant right now.  These next couple of weeks are hectic with family and friends coming into visit, so if I can get something in,  it is better than nothing...using the old Jan 1 thing to get my mojo back.  :-)

I would do them any way you can. You are still doing them and that is better than nothing. Work into it slowly, it will come with time. And you don't want to hurt yourself and push your training back.

I teach pilates and I always encourage modification.  Knees down is fine! Moves on the stability ball can first be started on the floor. Often class members, including myself , will do the first few repetitions in the more difficult position and then modify from there.  Each time you will find that you can do more and more repitions without having to modify.

Got a little (one handed) trainer ride in Sat, but my bad shoulder is making it impossible to swim or run (or sleep through the night).  Have an appointment with sports medicine/orthopedic surgeon for evaluation on Wednesday...hopefully I will get some exercises/physical therapy and be able to get back after it...not being able to do much is getting very frustrating!  Wish me luck, I am worried!

oh man....that is really tough.  Have you got it checked out yet at all?  Good luck, this is a good time of year to get on top of nagging injuries.  I know this one is more than nagging.  I hate losing sleep because of pain.  Does taking advil before bed do anything for you?

I was having problems with the back of my neck and went to a chiropractor and they fixed that and helped my shoulder in the process.

Yeah, not good on the shoulder.  If you can, get it checked out sooner than later.
