134 days!!!!!! left until we all go to Mexico Smile!!!!!

How is your training going? ups, downs?

All is well down here in Hot, Humid, Sunny South Florida!! I am having a hard time keeping hydrated on the long bike rides which so far I have done 2x 70mile rides. I did a beautiful one mile ocean swim the other day and when I got out all I could think of was, holy cow I would have to do another lap of this!!!

Hoping all is well with everyone!!

I'm in!!!!  Just registered.  I've been sitting on the fence since crossing the finish at CdA last month (my first IM).  Very excited for Cozumel.

Now the logistics - I have combed through all of the threads to get hotel info.  I'm thinking Cozumel Palace for race weekend and the Presidente Intercontinental for 3 days afterwards.  Anyone have any opinions about these hotels?  I'll be traveling with my husband and 5-year old twins.

I look forward to swapping tips and training support with all of you.

Time to get back into training!

Trirun I agree did a 40 miler yesterday the wind and lack of water almost got me. Can't believe your already doing 70milers. Oh well guess I will catch up soon enough. I did a 1.5 ows on Monday it was nice looking forward to the swim not the bike (weakness).

Getting fitted tomorrow should help a bit I am expecting. Lots of time to get train staying healthy is the other half of the battle. New Adamo seat and pedals are already a huge improvement.

Hi Everyone, I am thinking about doing the IM Cozumel. This will be my first Ironman. I have only done a few mini races in the past. I have just started training for this race as I am just done with rehab from a surgery. I was looking at the race pictures from years past and see some people wearing farmer john wetsuits. I would like to wear some sort of wetsuit for added flotation. Does anyone know if any type of suit is allowed? The race rules say no wetsuits but the pictures show differently. What hotel is reccommeded. I have two young boys 2 and 4 yrs. Does anyone know if this race fills up? I am training for it but want to see how I do over the next month before I shell out the $550. Thanks dave

Wetsuits are not allowed, period.  Are you sure you weren't seeing people in speed suits or tri suits?

Thanks! If you get a chance look at some of the photos from 2009's race. I know that sanctioned races allow certain suits even if the water is above 84. Maybe these tri suits are more advanced since I was active in Tri Dave

Well did punched the credit card last night. Me and the wife staying at the Palace. My brother convinced me to do this race and stay at this hotel damn he is expensive. It should be a great time. I guess I should start training now. lol Damn it is hot down here in SWFl. Lost 6 lbs doing a 2 hr workout today.

Hi, Do you know if this race fills up? I am training for it right now but am waiting to see how my training progresses before I shell out the 550. Any idea on how the hotel situation will be? Will they sell out for the race?

It does fill up, and they're pretty close to full right now AFAIK.  They were over 80% full when I signed up ~3 months ago.

Great decision!  The Palace is literally right across the street from the expo and the finish line.  And it's really close to a grocery store as well in case you needed anything.  I've heard of all the resorts on the island that the Palace has BEST food.  I stayed at the Melia Cozumel last year and though I liked it, the food wasn't the best

Have not read the thread, but did do the race last year.

If you are going to be on the run course when it starts to get dark, take bug spray or lotion. Take lots of it. As you get towards the top of the run course, which you do three times, there is a marshy area up there. The bugs are tenacious and tri apparel does nothing to stop them. Last year there was a bit of lotion to be had on the course and some spectators where giving theirs up too. I'd strongly suggest you drop some in your jersey pocket and self apply as needed.

We rented a house about 5 blocks from the finish area. Super handy location to the two major grocery stores, downtown, the finish line and registration. Even at 4:30am race morning I was able to get a cab within a few blocks of walking up to the main drag.

Subject: Wetsuits
Hi, I know wetsuits are not allowed for the Cozumel race. I want to get a wetsuit since I live out west where the water is chilly. Should I get a full suit or a sleeveless? I had a full that restricted my arm movement, but now that I will be racing cooler water I am kind of affraid to get a long john type. Does Anyone know of a good suit that does not restrict the arms? Doing 2.4 mi in a long john might too much. Thoughts? Also the bike I have is a road bike. Its an old trek 5200 with aero bars. Since I am low on funds buying a tri bike will be a while. Do you see may people doing Ironman races with road bikes? My areo bars are kind of heavy as they are alluminum. Thanks Dave

I'm bringing a road bike w/ clip-on aero bars.  If the bike gets you to the end before the cutoff, who cares if it's road or tri?

Hey All,
Just about to pull the trigger. Thinking we will stay at the Palace since we have family joining us. Seems a bit pricey, even compared to some of the other all inclusives, but everything I have read has been positive.
Going to check out flights today.
Plan to arrive on Thursday the 25th and stay on Coz through Tuesday the 30th. We will go to the mainland for a few days and wander about.
Anyone know about shipping a bike back? I plan to bring it in my luggage, but would love to ship it home.

Where is everyone else staying?

Aaaaaaand, I'm in! Just got approval from my command to travel. Unfortunately I had to withdraw from IMFL.

Although I do use the training log a bit, I don't get in the forums much but I thought I'd drop in to say hello.

I hope all your training is going well and see you all in Coz!

I'm in for IM Cozumel also. I registered in June. I was / am signed up for IM FL, but I decided to sign up for this one after all the uncertainity with the oil spill in the Gulf and Panama City Beach. It looks like IM FL will be fine , and I am happy about that. But, I am still glad I commited to IM Cozumel.

I began my build in August and I'm looking forward to solid weekend of training. Hope your training is going great!
