I see that you have both addressed the appropriate drinking time but I see that neither of you have commented on the "peeing on yourself" issue - I can't believe this is actually an acceptable practice - seriously?!?!? And David, college campus means that drinking can start as early as 8:00 am.

The rules are as follows:

Only clear liquor before 10:00 am (and it has to be mixed with juice)
Beer at/after 10:00 am
Brown liquor at/after Noon

At least these were the rules when I was in college (which was not that long ago - just to make that point clear) Wink

its sat on a college campus, how many people are alive by 8am;-) unless they are out still from the night before.

peeing on ones self. saved only for longer races, half IM or above. personally i think is a wasted movement unless those 30-60 sec really matter for some reason.

to clarify - the peeing on oneself has only happened to me once and I was in the water for a HIM. Totally not needed for sprint and oly.I am not an advocate of peeing on yourself in other circumstances. However if you want an expert opinion on peeing while riding there are several people on this board who can give advice.

Peeing on onself in a natural body of water (river, lake, ocean) is an acceptable practice - especially if wearing a wetsuit (we used to do it all the time when we were surfing - that was how you kept warm between sets)  but peeing on the bike is pretty hardcore and is definitely not in my future because I can't pee in front of people. I am happy to hear that this is not a standard practice in sprint and oly races.

The first year I did this race my buddy and I cracked our first of the morning about 9:30am. We'd been up since 5 and had just completed a tri so we figured it was ok.

Later that summer we took a trip to the Rock and Roll HOF and one morning cracked our first at about 7:30am. That was decidely not ok.

If anyone is an expert at not peeing on the bike, it's Tom. Come to think of it, Tom can not pee while running and in T1 and T2 as well. Tom, where else can you not pee?

Ahhh..congrats on the achievement bananatoes. I hope your mommy is throwing cheerios in the toliet to help you practice your aim in the potty - putting pee pee in the potty is only half the battle, aim is equally important for big boys.  Just keep trying and soon you won't have to wear the pull-ups at night anymore either. No. Unless you really want one. Tri-tech in Columbus sells them. The past few years HFP has gone without bib numbers anyway, so you may end up not needing the race belt even it you do get one.

I wouldn't spend the money for this race. Just pick an old shirt that you don't mind putting a few small holes through and safety pin the number to the shirt.

You need the following:
swim suit
goggles
bike
helmet
water bottle
running shoes

Anything else is optional. But there are a few more nice things I like to have

tri suit or shorts
shirt for if its cold
socks
aero bottle
seperate bike shoes (that clip into your pedals)
hat for the run

There are even more things that other folks like to have for race day but these are my staples.

replace swimsuit with trisuit, and add bike shoes to davids first list, and thats what i race shorter stuff with.

the one thing most newer people forget, and often end up wanting is a pair of sunglasses or some sort of glasses.

Sun glasses in April? Is it really about the sun or more for keeping the bugs out of your eyes while on the bike? My hope is just to make sure I don't swallow any bugs while on the bike, blech.

1.The swim is in the pool. Are different groups scheduled to swim @ specific times? Are you disqualified if you pause at the end of the pool(rest for a second)?
The start is a time trial (one at a time) - lined up by how fast you said you could swm the distance when you registered. Every 2 seconds or so someone will jump in and go. You can hang on the edges if you need to although grabbing the lane lines is discouraged I believe.
2.When going from the pool to the bike transition is there an area to change into dry clothes?Does the clock stop while you change?
There is not an area to change clothes. You leave directly from the pool out the back door which leads you into the parking lot/transition area where the bikes are. You will have what you wore in the pool and any other items (towel, clothes to put over your swimsuit if you want) you put in transition. Dont get naked in transition thats a DQ. Highly amusing but still a DQ.
3.I've heard the bike course is very hilly. How is the running course?
The running course is fairly flat, no hills to speak of but a few inclines for short periods of time.

I'd appreciate any info.I know...new guys.
Thanks.

the bike course really has two hills to note, one at about mile 3, one a bit later. the rest are nothing to worry about.

the run course is about as flat as you will get. i think the total elevation change from highest to lowest point on it is about 4 feet.

how is everyones training looking?

things are going well here, the swimming is coming back quickly, and the bike training (as much as being indoors sucks) is coming along well.

anyone have time goals, other goals, or predictions for the race?

The Miami Tri is going to be my first and I had a quick question. Whats the weather usually like at Miami in April? Is it a short sleeve tri-top, or long sleeve/jacket? Thanks.

Training has been a little rough in the last couple of weeks - things have been crazy which has inhibited my ability to put in as much time as I would like and the weather in the past week has made it a bit difficult too. Hoping things pick up this week. I am very excited because in a couple of weeks I will enjoy 5 days in sunny Southern California where I will be able to SBR in 70 degree weather and on that note, I predict, I will be tan or at least quasi tan for this race.

I promise to think of all of you while I am enjoying that 70 degrees and sunshine
