Kath2163 - 2010-04-08 8:01 PM I did a very short run outside just to get my legs moving before the half marathon on Sunday. It was nice to be outside injoying the warmer weather.
Half marathon sounds great. Best of luck

Thanks! I think I am going to need itTongue out

Got an art opening thing to go to tonight but I think I'm going to go do some strength and swim later tonight. I don't like to work out after 10pm cause it makes it hard to wind down and get to sleep. Tomorrow's Friday so I can suck it up and workout tonight.

90 min trainer ride this AM before work. Then just got back from a 10 min spin..then a 1:32 run. I really pushed very hard for the middle 50 min just to test myself. My legs have been feeling like bricks for the past 2 weeks so i wanted to see what i had. It was a great feeling to be able to push through and actually pull down some good mile splits!

Best of luck on the half marathon!

Swam during lunch today, was supposed to do some hill repeats after work on the bike but the day got away from me. Tomorrow I'm just supposed to do some core work so I'm going to get the bike in then, I figure it will all even out.

I actually leave tomorrow for a three day training camp down at Lake San Antonio in prep for Wildflower. I'm super excited, there will be about 28 of us with five coaches, it will be great to get some one-on-one coaching and also get a preview of the course since it's my first Wildflower.

furiousferret - 2010-04-08 3:42 PM I try to OWS twice every weekend; there's a lake near here that's 30 minutes from the house, and a few others closer but they are in the mountains and getting ice runoff now.

I actually enjoy it much more than lap swimming, but the problem is commuting to get there.  My pool is only 5 minutes away.

Did about 1600 meters in the pool this morning, I usually do workouts in the afternoon but I think my pool workouts are going to be in the morning now, 4 days a week, with 2 OWS on the weekends.  I did notice that because I didn't eat prior I had ZERO enery and even going 500 yards was a chore.

That should give me about 16 more swim sessions until IMSG;  my form is really poor and I'm hoping I can make a few changes to increase my speed or lessen my effort before the race.

I think doing the swim workouts in the morning is a great idea...to get you in a routine of swimming right when u wake up...like at all races haha

That is a good idea... however I got sick today, and I'm pretty sure it was from not eating before my swim; I shouldn't put weight loss in front of my endurance goals.

I usually get sick when I overtrain or do something dumb like, don't eat breakfast before a training session.

Oh, and furiousferret was my online video game handle back in the 90's and it just stuck.

Oh, almost forgot, after my 24 miler I got interviewed by a sportswriter from the St. George Spectrum and Daily News!   The article should be in the sports section next Tuesday!

Monday's and Thursday's I ride up a mountain around here (Lookout Mountain) with a cycling group.  So I went and did that after work, it's my baby version of the  Col de la Madone pro cyclists use.   6 miles up averaging 5.5% grade.  I started my cycling training on it and did it twice a week all last year.  First month I was averaging a whimpy 5.3mph on the way up, by the end of the summer a few days before my first HIM I was averaging 10.2mph.  I started riding it again last week now that the weather permits... I'm averaging 9.2mph right now, so I all that winter running has paid off by having me not that far off my best performance.  If training goes right, I should be able to crush my race times from last year

Oh... then after we got back to the meeting place after todays ride, I threw the bike in the car, swapped out the shoes and went for a quick 2 mile run (first mile in 8:16, second mile in 7:06... relatively flat terrain).  One guy in the cycling group yelled out a joking "You do realize this isn't a tri group right?" comment as I told him I'd meet them at the bar in about 15minutes after I get a quick mile or two in.

Think about the average person in this country? How many could say that they just ran an EASY 8 miler? Not many Great job.

Exactly!   I can run 8 miles but none of is is easySmile

PennState - 2010-04-09 9:28 AM Personally the thing I like best about triathlon is the fact that all 3 sports are different, but that they are all enjoyable.

I agree! On a day where my legs have nothing in them i can always kick my butt in the pool. It helps break up the monotony of training for one type of race.

PennState - 2010-04-09 1:42 PM What are the training plans for the weekend for the rest of you? Kathleen has a half mary, I will be in dc.

1.2 mile ocean swim tonight.
Sat: 6-7 mile run
Sun: 2 hour 40 min ride then 2 mile run

May switch sat and sun workouts based on weather. I kind of like running in the rain...but dont really like riding in it (fingers crossed it wont rain at LP this year like it did in 2008)

I'm in the same half mary as Kathleen.  It should be a fast one!  Only 66ft of ascent and 174ft of decent.

Still going to get some extra miles in running and biking though on Saturday since the race isn't until Sunday.

I'm off to my training weekend on the Wildflower course. Sunset run tonight after I arrive, swimming and biking the Oly course tomorrow with a 40 minute T-run and running the Oly course on Sunday. Should be great. Hope everyone has a great weekend, I'll be back on Sunday with a full report.
