dixrp - 2010-04-12 7:42 AM Good Morning everyone. Just back from pool. Hope everybody has great week! My goal for week, 4 more workouts between now and Friday. Atleast 2 runs, 1 bike, 1 swim. What is on tap for you all?

Just finished inputting my plan for the week.  I'm looking at 3 runs, 2-3 bike, and 1 swim if it works out with my friend's schedule this week.  I have two days of business travel to the SF Bay Area this week too, so I may need to double up to get it all in.

Morning!  Today is a 55 minute run with 30 minute time trial effort in the middle followed by either swimming or weights - depends.  (I'm doing the silver HIM program.)  Although I come from a miler/5K runner background I've been working my endurance so I'm sure I won't set any speed records today.

So I've unsubscribed from the thread. That should do it. Just thought that might kick me out. Becuase I never actually subscribed. It was an automatic thing.

I've got 2 swims, 3 bikes and 3 runs. Hoping to add an open water swim in there if the weather cooperates. Got a century ride on Sunday. Weather isn't looking good for that right now either. I've been plagued by bad weather this spring. Ugghh.

Usually Mondays and Wednesdays I lift with a friend.  I forgot to tell my lifting buddy that I'm tapering, so I'll just do an easy session with him tonight, followed by some foam-rolling & stretching.

For the rest of the week, I'm running Tues, Thurs, and Saturday.  I'll ride my bike trainer on Weds instead of lifting (I don't worry about going to hard or too long on the trainer since usually I'm dying just to get off that thing!)  And I'll probably get a session or two of yoga in there somewhere.

Fi,

There is also another setting under the wrench that you can toggle so you don't have to unsubscribe from threads after each post.  Go back under the wrench, forum settings...in your preferences you can toggle a yes/ no answer to receive notification of your threads.

The other way is to jjust unsubscribe after each post which is timeconsuming and a pain in the butt when you forget to do it and then find after a couple days youyr email is loaded with BT notifications!

Wow, I need to catch up on all of the posts!

Schedule for the week is 3 run/walks, 2-3 bikes, 2 swims, 2 yoga sessions, and 2 strength sessions.

I do have a question.  What is everyone using for a bike saddle?  I currently have a Terry Butterfly Tri saddle.  I think I need a new one and would like to consider some different options.  I do need gel and need some padding.  Anyone have a saddle that you just love?

I hope everyone has a great Monday!

I currently have the adamo racing saddle, so there is no nose to dig into my lady parts.  I love it, but I had problems with regular saddles.

I you liked that seat, get another.  It is too hard to find seats that your body likes, I went through about a half dozen.

I have 3 swims scheduled, 2 runs and hopefully 3-4 bikes (depends on weather).

Right now I am using the stock saddle that came with my bike when I bought. It does get a tinsy bit uncomfortable on longer rides, but then again no saddle is made to be sat in for long extended periods of time with out standing up. So I do try to get out of the saddle at least every 45 mins, just to read ajust a little.

My planned workouts for the week are two more swims, two more runs, a long ride, a moderate ride, a 30 min recovery ride, and then my first outdoor sprint of the season.

disturbed275 - 2010-04-11 7:04 PM
carrie639 - 2010-04-11 2:42 PM Thanks for all of the kinds words.  Here are my official results

Official results:
Swim 10/52 women
Bike 12/54 women
Run 42/52 (by far my worst of the 3 legs!!!)

As far as the headache and maybe being hydration, I constantly worry about drinking too much on the bike so it doesn't bother my run.  I can tend to get cramps if I drink too much.  Thoughts?  Rule of thumb

(P.S. I am pretty good about hydrating most of time.  Pee is generally light yellow or almost clear)

Oooh!  I do remember something from today.  A rule of thumb for drinking on the bike is ~4oz every 15 minutes.  This is roughly 4 swallows (1oz = 1 swallow)

That is a good rule to remember, I probably do not drink enough on the bike then.  I chew gum when I ride to keep my mouth from drying out and that won't give me the fluid I need to do a good job on the HIM.

Yikes, I actually have to practice drinking on the bike!  My first race, I crashed my bike trying to drink while riding (I'd only gotten in a couple of rides before doing my 1st race; before then it'd been years since I'd been on a bike.  So my bike handling skills were pretty bad, but I still finished the race despite the crash!)  After that, for my other races I either pulled over to drink, or just drank in transition.  Obviously that's not gonna fly for my HIM, so I have to practice drinking while riding. . . Hopefully by now my bike handling skills are much better so I don't crash Embarassed

Yeah practice will definitely help you here.  The more you do it the more it becomes just a natural motion.  Carrie brought up a good point about aero bottles.  I use one just for the convenience of not having to reach down and pull a bottle out.  Instead the straws are right there.  You just have to be careful with bumpy surfaces.

Also, our nutritionist did say it is more beneficial to consume small, but frequent volumes as opposed to gulping down 16oz every hour.  Your body can only process so much at once.  Setting a watch or something to remind you is a great idea.  I'm guilty of the gulping thing as I can easily zone out or if I'm dealing with some particularly nasty crosswinds and don't want to reach for anything other than the bullhorns.  The last HIM I did there was 30mph winds and rain my nutrition plan went out the window since I was trying just to survive.

I had a nice swim this evening.  The rest of the week will gets a little dicey for me.  It looks like I have a funeral to go to later in the week that will require some travel.

I am in desperate need of some bike miles though, so I will get out when I can.

I'm currently using a fizik arione tri 2 saddle.  Not much in the way of padding but I like it that way.  Had no problems doing a century on it last year.

Neal I will hang on if you don't mind? I need all the support I can get for September. Race this weekend, Olympic at Lake Anna, I will concentrate on nutrition and try and just have a good time. I wish I had more bike time and bricks but don't we always wish we had trained more. I have to keep reminding myself it is all training for September so anything sub 3 hours will work but will shoot for sub 2:50 so I PR.

Question for the group... I realize that everyone is in the thick of training for specific events, but other than a couple of running races on the schedule, I'm working my way toward my first tri (if all goes well this week, it will be my first time in the pool).  Anyway, a couple of questions about recovery.  Do you schedule a specific day of active or passive recovery in your training?  Some plans seem to advocate taking Mondays for recovery, some Fridays before your weekend long runs, rides or bricks.  Thoughts?  Preferences?

Especially as I add swimming to my schedule, I'm a little concerned about being able to keep it all in balance.  Seems like scheduling regular recovery might be the best way to accomplish this.
