Actually felt pretty good today after yesterday's half-marathon, just a little tired.  Had a fantastic yoga class to set me to rights this morning.

Went to the pool for a short slow swim with my 8-year-old daughter Maddy, because she declared that she wanted to beat her "record" by swimming 34 laps straight.  She did it, but there was a line of increasingly impatient men looking to seize the lane from her.  Normally, I would totally yank her out, but I explained that a new record was being set.  Afterward, I made sure I let her know that in the future, until she is strong enough to circle swim with the big boys, she needs to vacate the lane if adults are waiting on deck during peak evening hours.  In response, she very confidently declared "I am a person too, and if they don't like how slow I swim they can go around me."  Uh oh.

Hey Nicole.  Sorry your race did not go as planned.

The official results are up and I came in 4/5 women

They officially declared the swim to be 0.6mi rather than the pre-race 0.5mi so my 20:16 comes out to a 2:02 pace and qualifies as a PB for race OWS!

My T1 was a respectable 2:13 (7/15)

As far as the ride goes, I guess I now have a much greater respect for what it takes to be a good flatland racer. I think rollers and short climbs (and fast descents!) actually suit me best.

Nice job Nicole!

Awesome on the 1/2 mary.  Yoga always sets me straight after a long run or ride.

You GO Maddy!!!  You are a swimmer and you have every right to use that lane!
She sounds like a very confident little girl...which is awesome!

Happy Tuesday Ladies!

I got a good lifting session in last night, and I have a swim planned for tonight.  My front delts are now sore because I swam last Thursday, Friday, and Sunday but before then I hadn't swam since my last tri in August!  I thought my shoulders would be sore, but nope, just my delts.

Well, I started my month off with a half marathon.  My first serious half...the first I did in November and I was keeping a friend company and it was a lot of walking with some easier jogging.

i managed to do this one without any run training (I had gotten in a fair bit of swimming and biking though).  I devised a strategy during the first mile of the run.  I did run walk intervals.  I walked the first 1.5 to 2 minutes of miles 2-9, the first minute of miles 10 and 11 and then ran through the end.  It worked really well.  I think that I was running at about an 8:30 pace, my average pace for the half was 9:12 or so.  My goal had been to finish without injuring myself and planned on taking a bit under 3 hours.  My finish time was 2:00:04!

Very excited.  Tempted to never train in the run again...I always end up injuring myself.  Probably a bad idea though.  I just need to train smarter.

Most definitely...now you just need to tell them!

Hey Mel, congrats on your half marathon!  That's awesome!  I will admit that I've only ever done 2 half marathons, and I didn't train for either Foot in mouth  And for the second one, I PR'ed by 4 minutes from my first one!  It seems like having a good fitness base carries over for the most part.

I'm totally with you on the don't-run-so-much-but-run-smarter training plan!  I followed the FIRST training plan for my marathon (only 3 runs/week + crosstraining), and I did just as well as others in my training group who followed a more traditional plan of 5-6 runs/wk.  And I was basically recovered 2 days after my marathon.

That's funny about Bill's typo Wink

OK Mel, rub it in, why don't ya!  I trained for 2 months and finished my half mary in 2:06!  Cry

Kidding, of course.  Congratulations!  I've heard some very compelling stories about the run/walk strategy when doing marathons.

You can dream, but it just isn't going to happen. We'll be seeing a lot of shaved legs next month, it just won't be guys legs.

No worries, (not muck raker) Bill ... Mel is also faster than me without training.  Lol.  And you are faster than me, too!
