swimmindy - 2010-10-21 10:23 AM Okay so complicated question.  I've been doing the program where I build up the running time throughout the week.  So Day 1 will be 8min walk 2min run three times.  Day 2 is 12min walk 3min run two times.

For day 3 should I save the running for the beginning, middle, or end?

I'm leaning towards the end and then having a good warm down - but I wanted to know what you all thought or have done?

~Melinda

Hi Melinda. So is Day 3 the same run/walk pattern? If so, just do the same thing you have been doing, and run after the walk interval.

I did it the same pattern for the 2nd week, but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to do it early now that the running is longer to keep good form on the run or just stay with the same pattern.

I walked the minutes as warm-up and then did the run minutes all the way through.  I did this the entire program and it worked great.  I was careful to rest and listen if my joints started to protest too much. no injuries or problems and my 5k and the completion of the program is on sunday. today will be my last run before the race.  Keep it up Melinda it will be worth it. good job!

Thanks!  Awesome job on completing the program - I'd say good luck on the 5k, but I'm sure you won't need it with all the work you've put in!

Completed my first 5k today I am proud to say. I ran the entire way and posted a 30:32 unofficial time.  I have lost fifteen pounds since I started this program. I could not have accomplished this race without this program and the kind words of the people on this site.  I never in a million years thought I would ever run a race of any kind.  If anyone is thinking about doing the couch to 5k I would say go for it.  I feel so great about accomplishing something I never thought I would do.  Thanks again and I will post a RR soon.

I'll be following this plan again.  I'm finally allowed to run again after healing from a stress fracture for 6 weeks.  But, I basically have to start from scratch, so I'll either be following the conservative or aggressive plan.

Good thinking! I had a stress fracture in my foot that took me months to recover from. Injury occurred in April and I started running again in August. I was being very conservative. It scared me that I wasn't totally 100% pain free when I started running again, but I think that is normal. It wasn't sharp pain, but discomfort. But it went away. Good luck getting back to it!

So I just started week #4...yeah!!

But I was curious, I've been doing run 1 minute, walk 4 minutes (or whatever is the ratio for the day).  How have others been doing it?  Do you run all the time at once or split it up?

i split the running time for the conservative plan. i feel like two one minute increments are easier to handle than one two minute increment, but that's me.

Hi,

My name is Melissa, I'm living in Cape Town, South Africa.  My husband is training for the Ironman 2011 in Port Elizabeth.  He has motivated me to get myself into shape.  I have severe asthma and have never in my life been able to run even a 1/4mile.  It is a life goal of mine to just run 1 mile.  I am going to train for a sprint triathlon as my big goal so that I know I have enough endurance and stamina to enjoy outdoor activities with my four children as they get older.  I will begin this program Nov 15, 2010.

So I've been off the program for about 3 weeks, 1 because I went to a conference and couldn't find time to run and for the last 2 weeks I've been sick and just now feeling well enough to try again.  I still have yet to break in my brand new running shoes and finding motivation a little difficult to come by.

So I've come to say I'm starting up again so at least I'm accountable for it now.  Here we go again! Surprised

Ah, I love it! Good for you for putting it out there for all to see! Now go use those new running shoes before they give up on you and cry!

Well I did it and I'm paying for taking time off... I'm sooo sore.  Was able to finish all 6 minutes of running thanks to a running partner I had with me.

I am starting today.  Back in 2008 I did a half marathon, but that is the last time that I really ran.  I have been doing Crossfit for the last 3 months and I want to get back into running.  My goal is to complete the 16 week C25k and then head straight into a half marathon training program which is 12 weeks.  My goal is to complete the Rock n' Roll San Diego Half Marathon on June 5.

I think you will find that your Crossfit work will help you get back into running shape pretty quickly. best of luck, and make sure to keep us up to date on your progress.

I'm doing the same thing as Mickie was.  Plugging away at running for longer times each time I go out.  I'm not even measuring how far I run, just taking the stopwatch so I know how long I ran.  Glad someone else is doing the same thing.  My running is slow slow too so now I don't feel bad.

On week 4 of the program.  Some days I can't get outside for the full training so do just the running portion.  Up to 9 and 1/2 minutes of running.  Planning on doing a 5K in March although if I'm doing well enough may do the local hash run in January.
