Water challenge- so far so good. As long as I have my bottle at my desk I should do okay.

Today's workout
30 min full body weights- I use compound movements
25 min bike - intervals of 90 -105 RPM

We are getting quite a bit of snow here as well. I am already desperately looking forward to spring.

I have a similar schedule it changes week to week. One of the things that helped me feel a little
better was to schedule my rest days on one of my work days, or make that day an easier workout day.
Thanks again to Marianne for that advise. So far so good. Tomorrow is one of those days and I'm just
going to bike at the gym.

And remember we are here to give you the added support.

Don't buy the Walmart bike, There is a difference btw the bikes , my boyfriend bought one from Walmart (nice bike) but
it didn't fit him well and there is no one who can help you find that fit for you. Check out a few Bike stores and
see what they say and what fits into your budget. I have had my Specialized now for 6 yrs and still love it. It is
a bit heavier than the newer ones, but a new one is not in the budget. Just shop around.

Had a good day, not to sore. Ran on the treadmill, 10 minutes, 1 mile. Felt better than I expected.
A little dishearted with my swim, thought I'd be able to get back in and go. Found I was short of
breath and my shoulders really yelled at me. I did complete 15 minutes and a whopping 5 laps.

They have a Masters swim in the am's I was thinking of dropping in to a few classes and see
what they say.

I was able to drink my H2O today.

Happy to say I met the water challenge yesterday and will try again today. I'm suppossed to go try on dresses for my brother's wedding tonight then going to the gym after to get in a run and bike. It may be a short one but some is better than none.

Happy Day!

Good morning all...I woke up to what appears to be a blizzard! We already have at least a foot of snow and its not going to stop all day. A good portion of my day will be snow removal!!! I also gives me lots of BT time!!! Susan ...snow in Atlanta looks like a nightmare!!!!

About purchasing bikes...I have three. My first bike I bought on Craigslist and was used. A Trek1000 that I paid $300 for. Its a nice bike but its wayyyyyyyyyyyy too big for me. I road it for a year and I loved tris so I bought a road bike Cannondale CAAD9. I Paid  $1700 for it and it fit beautifully but I got really into doing Tris and decided I wanted a tri bike. SO my third bike ( I have had for going on 3 years) I paid $2200. I have put over 7,000 miles on this bike and will never be unhappy with my decision to buy it. I never ride my road bike. I lend it to beginners...I probably should sell it. SO I learned that you should NEVER buy a used bike unless it fits. Each brand is different. I have a Kuota which sizes its frames as S,M,L,XL. I am a med. My road bike is 56 cm. I also learned that if you really like tris and plan to stay with the sport buy a tri bike.

All that being said....DONT buy a Walmart bike...its a waste of money. You can look here on BT at the classified, or on Craigslist, there are often bikes for sale. One of the things you can do, is go to the LBS and test ride a few. A good bike store will do some preliminary measurements and then set a bike for you to ride. My LBS let me take my tri bike for an afternoon and ride. Most often they will let you ride around the area of the bike shop. You will get a feel for what size bike you ride and can make a better decision on a used bike. If you find a used Felt ( for example) go to the LBS, as to test ride one...and make your decision. Or go to the LBS and find a bike you like and post a wanted to buy on Craigslist or here on BT with the price you want to pay.Take your time in making a decision on your bike...it will be your companion for a long time.

Michelle...did you have any luck importing your plan?I am NOT a great computer person!!! You can PM Marmadaddy and ask him about splitting the plans...he will be able to help you.

Masters swimming is a great opportunity to get in some good workouts. The coaches tend to have some decent swim experience and can offer advice on your stroke. Usually they break the group into skill ability if its a larger group. Swimming with others will push you to swim a little faster. A lot of Masters groups offer drop in...where you pay a small amt to participate to see if you like the group. If you are a beginner you might find it challenging at first but usually the groups are very supportive. Its also a chance to meet other triathletes in your area...masters is where a lot of triathletes hang out I am fortunate, my son was a collegiate distance swimmer ( 6th in NewEngland for the mile***brag***) He is great about meeting me  at the gym and giving me tips about my stroke. He also yells at me because I dont do flip turns!!!When I first started, he would come with me on my open water swims ...he paddled on his surfboard to watch me.

Working and training is where EVERYONE has issues. SIGN UP for a race...you will find the time!!!! I have a coach and he sends my plan based on my races, work schedule and lately my injuries. I STILL have to mix up my workouts due to life events!!! Because my work is very physical I try never to schedule my harder/longer workouts on days that I work. I am a pretty strong swimmer so I will  make the exception and schedule long swims on days that I work. It does become part of your life at some point, and you wont want to miss it. Its a matter of finding balance between work, home and training.Find the time...you are worth it. Be an example to your family and friends. You will have a positive influence on those who you live and work with once they see how you manage to complete your training.

Looks like everyone is trying to drink the water! Its not easy to get that much in...I did not meet the goal yesterday, but today is another day!!!!

Off to strength train... I mean shovel!!!!

I too shall be strength training shovelling today My daughter gets soooo excited when she sees snow. We moved to Hawaii when she was 2 months old so this is the first year she has ever seen snow (outside of a book or on TV) and it makes it even more fun for me.

To be honest Marianne I haven't tried to import my plans again. I've been busy with schoolwork since my class started this week. However, if i'm not able to i'll get a hold of Marmadaddy ~ thanks!

Sorry I'd disappeared for a rew days, things have been slightly hectic here.

Am just about managing the water challenge, not quite hitting target everyday, but not far off

Have not been able to start following the actual training plan, however managed to run for 1 1/2 miles yesterday and walked back. and went to an adult swimming class toninght for and 1hr to get my front crawl sorted.

Taking little Teigl to her baby swim class tomorrow so that'll be another little workout for me, I will try and get the 12 min run in tomorrow too as Emrys will be able to look after Teigl whilst I go.

I've also just found out tonight that my Triathlon has been put back till September 'cos the pool has to close for a while. so I don't know i I'm pleased or not. Ok it gives me more time to train, but I had y head around it happening in April.

Should I find another Tri a Tri sooner than September?

I fell 16 oz short yesterday, but it was my second rest day so I didn't sweat it too much.  I did a photo walk of a couple miles, and that felt good.

Today is a swim day, and I'm heading to the gym in 30 minutes.  my goal is to do a 150 before I have to rest...

I'll update y'all this evening.

@ Tanwen - I say, "Yes!  find a race sooner than September!"

@ HappyChick - I can't hang out on the boards most of the day, but I'm always on IM if you're bored:  AIM: rrcorpsecss  GTalk: onefaller.  that goes for anyone else, as well...  just be aware that if we're talking and suddenly I don't respond, it's because I'm working, not because I'm ignoring you. :~)

@Tanwan - You don't want to wait until September, thats the end of the season.  Find an earlier race. You're going to have so much fun, you'll want to sign up for another before the end of summer.

Hey Guys,  go swim, bike or run something for me.

Right now I'm in the midst of taper fever.  I need to swim, bike or run something.  Not working out is hard!  I am well rested but I'm feeling the need for speed.  Today is an off day, Thursday is a travel day. Race Day is Sunday.  Wish me luck on my second marathon.  I've trained hard, recovered often, worn out another pair of shoes, but I am 100 percent healthly and ready to rock n roll.

Water challenge - another 64oz down.  I drink my first 6oz as soon as I get out of bed.  That gives me a headstart on the rest of the day.

Cheers,
Mark

Next race Mercer Island Half Mary 3/20.

Go, Mark!

Marathon is out of my reach currently, but I've got *tons* of respect for those that can do it!

I'm 3/4 of the way to my water goal for today...

I made my goal in the pool tonight...  did a 150, and then did 50's; however, I *totally* lost count.  Since my tri is "just" a 250yd swim, and it's the last leg (they're doing it backwards), I'm pushing to be able to do 400 yds without stopping.

Picked up some tofu, mushrooms and asparagus for a stir fry for dinner.

I'm sore, but it's a "good hurt"

:~)

blue skies!

Good luck and have fun Mark...I can't wait to hear all about it!!!

I always take a water to bed with me to leave on my nightstand and as soon as I wake up in the morn I take a few big drinks to start the day off. It really helps me to drink enough water throughout the day and i'm usually around the 80oz mark which helps during a challenge like this

BTW, i've got you covered in the water!

Go Mark, Go! Enjoy the race and soak it all in.

I just completed by first set of Core excercises that are part of my Du training plan. Has anyone else been doing them? I think they are part of many plans here on BT. They were challenging but not unattainable. Of course, I just did 10 reps from the Core #1 workout. I think there are 5 all together? I also did a 30 min workout on the trainer. While not having any scenery is a downer, it's really nice to really focus on my cadence. The trainer removes all the other variables.

I'm going to hold off for a while on the bike. I did some research and took some measurements, and the one I'm riding isn't too big for me. So, I shall be happy with what I've got! Okay- I am going to buy some shoes this weekend, but that's it... really...

I'm impressed with everyone's time in the pool. Good work!!!

I was just thinking, I'm headed to the mountains for a vacation on Sat. (yes I love all the snow). Any idea on
how much skiing and snowboarding goes towards the training. I won't have access to a gym. I will swim if they
have a pool.

Hi All!!!

Heather, I have been doing the "Hard Core" exercises that are listed in the article on BT. There are 15 different exercises and it takes about 15 minutes to do the workout. I have been doing them for over 2 weeks now and I can definately feel a difference. I highly recommend these!!!! You can find the video/article on the article page, its listed on the right hand side of the page. There is a lot of research that suggests strengthening your core improves your overall performance as a triathlete......and you all will be triathletes soon. The nice thing about this set is that they can be done at home ( no gym equip needed) and you can do it while you are watching  TV , watching kids....you get what I mean!!!!

Also glad you are holding off on the bike Heather. What you have is probably fine. DO a race and once you are hooked you can invest!!!

Julie...did you make it to the gym yesterday??????

Terry skiing and snowboarding DEFINATELY counts!!!!! You can log your time by going to your training log and press the sports bar ( about halfway down the training log) a bunch of sports will drop down. Both sKiing and snowboarding are listed. It is great crosstraining. During the off season it is GREAT to do someting other than Swim Bike and Run and helps develop different muscle groups that are not used in tri...plus its fun!!!!! Hope you get some rest after your long shifts before you head out to the mountains!!!

Leslie I hope you are feeling better... sometimes when you start training you will feel fatigued.

Most of you have started your training plans...if you havent its OK but you should begin to think about it soon. Every week your training plan will have one to two rest days. BE SURE TO TAKE YOUR REST DAYS!!!! These days are here to help your body recover. You may not feel you need it...but you do. By taking rest days you allow recovery and by doing this you decrease your chances of injury. If you dont rest your chance of injury increases!!!!

Mark...I think you are traveling today...safe travels and enjoy your time in AZ... Cant wait to hear about it.

Michelle...what are you in school for? Training...yound child and school...WOW!!!

I managed to get all my water in yesterday!!!! I am battling a knee problem and after my run yesterday it was really bugging me. Today I will spin easy on the trainer do my abs workout and drink my water.

One faller...how long has it been since you quit????

All others who havent posted....come on. Georgiagal, where are you???? Anesthesiadoc????

DO not be afraid to post if you havent been working out ...we are here to motivate eachother.
