Have been doing bricks in the alabama heat and I pray that the pollen I have been reading about in Indiana is gone as I am a big powder puff when it comes to allergies.....ugh. |

I'm camping this year at PCR, you can't beat $12 a night. From what I understand the campsites are about a mile from transition. |

Contemplating jumping into this one for an aquabike (I'd just drop on the run, there is no official aquabike section). I'd be pushing the bike segment, so 2:15-ish isn't out of the question on this course. I'd be coming from the absolute last non-relay wave. Would hate to find it too congested to go, or worse, get into an accident because of too many people around. Sorry Brigby I have no idea... However! Just thought I would chime in to say if you do race muncie let us know your race number. I'll start 12 min ahead of you on the swim so my goal will be to stay ahead on the bike as long as possible... say 5-10 miles before you blow past? Haha! Watch out for Zucco. Saw his name on the list. 1st Overall Amateur last year. He's in your age group and 1 wave behind. ~2:05 on the bike and beat 4:04 overall. Good luck! |

I am looking forward to some redemption after my first and only HIM with a time of 7:30ish, not fun. I am hoping to do around 6:00 and enjoy it this time. Good luck to everyone.
Btw I was contemplating camping. I have a hotel room, but not sure. Is anyone camping? We are camping at Camp Modoc which looks to be 45 mins or so from race site coming from the south. Easier for us to manage with kids and food. I have been off all training 2 weeks tomorrow from any training due to random back strain I had. So.... not even sure if I will race at this point. Feel good now and will try to get some miles in this weekend to see. I have never had to come back from injury this close to race date. Luckily I had lots of high mileage runs/bikes in prior so I am hoping I didn't loose too much fitness. Sucks!! But hoping to race still. Edited by Goop68 2012-06-22 5:20 AM |

Fortunately, the Muncie course looks like it has enough turns to offset headwinds with some tailwinds. Less than 2 weeks! |

Flat, hot and fast...if the wind kicks up, might make for a long 56 miles. Awesome ride, great course, even better when traffic will be shut off. Sounds great! I was thinking about the Muncie course on my 56 miler Saturday. I chose a course with similar elevation- around 800 feet of climbing- and there was a steady breeze around 10 mph. Helps a lot when it's at your back, but you pay for that later... I also went out after lunch when the temp was >90 degrees and felt good for the ride. I doubt that the temp will get that high during the bike leg since it will be earlier in the morning. Now the run on the other hand... |

Member 86 Xenia | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Muncie : Official Thread I am still giving this race some thought but the possibility of a heatwave is looking scary. It is supposed to be near 100 here in Dayton by Friday. It cannot last though, and maybe the good man upstairs will grace the field of competitors with some mild conditions....unless I sign-up. David Yeah, that's kinda a problem with Summer events. But, still a week and a half away and won't have an idea about weather on race day until early next week. But, considering I've done Eagleman in the heat, preparing for that possibility for this event too by training in the afternoons so I can acclimate. Adjust goals as needed if it's hot and hope for a milder weather come race day. As I've done in the past for other races, I'll post weather updates starting next week for this one as well. |

Extreme Veteran 1136 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Muncie : Official Thread After wilting in the unseasonable early May heat of Rev3 Knoxville, I have a new plan. I bought one of the Desoto "Cool Wings" and will keep it in a soft cooler full of ice in transition (not my idea, I read it somewhere.) Then when I hop off the bike I will attempt to put it on while running out of T2. That could be interesting... I also have a handheld bottle that I may carry for the run as well. Sometimes I find that I don't want to drink too much at a time, so aid stations every mile are not as good as a drink every half mile or so. |

Thanks! I can tell you with some confidence, though, that forecasts that far out tend to go more towards climatology. About 6-7 days out, should be able to start to tell things a good bit better. The one model I'm looking at has been indicating a weak front going by with rain the night before. But, it's been wavering a good deal between rain and no rain. So, lots of variability in the forecast still until that time and I won't really seriously consider the forecast until Sunday. Edited by sbrdave 2012-06-27 4:01 AM |

I actually have a wetted towel waiting for me in transition I'll put on my neck and I also use a hydration belt sometimes for the same reason (don't like carrying anything in my hands). I've used a DeSoto cooling top and it works fairly well in hot weather. Plus I have a cooling pad for my helmet/hat that construction workers use. I had a cooling bandana for my first hot race but I find the towel works better. No visor for hot weather - hat for ice if they have it (they did at Eagleman). Other ideas? |

Veteran 118 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Muncie : Official Thread It's getting close now!!! I'll be the slow guy, #1467, who also happens to be stuck in the last wave before the relays :/ Oh well, less people to pass me. Anyone planning on getting in an OWS at PCR the day before the race. I was hoping to get out there Friday morning around 8AM or so, to get a feel for what it will be like on race morning (minus all the people) Is that type of thing done, or even allowed? I have been getting some OWS practice at a local lake, and feel much more confident, but getting out on the actual course to get a feel for sighting landmarks, etc. would be wonderful! |

In my experience it usually seems to be one of the smaller fields. From what I have seen they get progressively more entrants until about the 35-39 or maybe 40-44 and then taper off again. |

Last report on 6/25 was 78. Still bringing my wetsuit, though. Save more time overall with it than without. |

Extreme Veteran 1136 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Muncie : Official Thread Went for a 44 mile ride this afternoon. The temp when I left was 109 and it had only dropped to 108 by the time I got back. Typical high temps in june around here are mid 90's. Took my 70oz camelbak and a 20 ounce bottle, and still ran out of water with 8 miles to go. Had to stop at a store to refill. If Muncie is this hot i'll be in trouble. |
