I ran the easy 30 minutes and when I run I cover up the time, on the treader I call it, so it doesn't seem so long but still always feel I need to peak.  Not today!  My run was just right I could have run longer or harder if I wanted to but I keep reminding myself BASE.  I also had a swim to get in before 6 pm, the end of dinner.  So when I was swimming my best I was training with the Masters or on the swim team and we I get the money, that's is what I am going to do so I too can be put in a lane with people who are better and turn it into a learning experience.  Right James

Absolutely on the swim...intimidating, sure but I swear in just a single session I came out of the pool a better swimmer and far more confident!

30 min runs seemed the order of business today!  I ran 30 easy pace on the treadmill.  I like the idea of covering the timer up on treadmill runs.

Cheers!

Good job Alicia and James on the treadmill !

Never easy I found to dominate those beasts... I have 45min tomorrow... with the actual temp, I still don't know if I'll go outside or not.

Managed to ride for an hour today, indoor though...

Keep up the good works everybody, and always remember, the journey to train to be ready for your goal is even more important than the race day itself !

I am fortunate enough not to have the extremes of weather you are all experiencing. Very mild this year if a little wild and windy the last two days but still get out to run and ride. (Thankfully better than last year when we experienced minus 17 degrees C in Ireland over a 4 week period rare in the extreme!).

Well wild and gale force winds but got the long bike in today 82 mins (16.37 miles).

Day off tomorrow and then hit the pool with the guys from the Tri club on Friday evening!

Great Job everyone and keep it up!

Cheers

David

I haven't posted much lately because yesterday I sat for what I am hoping is the last time for the CPA exam (3 sections down one to go) so I was in my pain cave reviewing tax regulations and business law.

I reached my goal of training for 30 consecutive days in December then I took the next 3 days off because I could tell my body really needed and I needed to concentrate on studying.

My goals for the rest of the week is to run 3 miles today and Friday (I already finished today's), swim 600 yards tomorrow focusing on my form and swim 1600 yards Saturday, then rest again on Sunday.

Just checking in to say hello...rest day for me - missing my workout but I know by next week I'll be screaming for a rest day so doing what the plan tells me.....ie nothing!!

Sounds like you're all doing great - 30 days of workouts, wow what a great month!

Jason - I have the cadence sensor for the garmin though I only have my hiking gps right now, an oregon 450...works fine though my unit is a bit clunky for the bike even with the handlebar mount and I certainly can't run with it..!

See ya tomorrow...Cheers!

Sorry I haven't been on in a while guys.  Computer took a giant turd, but i've been training well.

Decided to go with the 20 week OLY plan with the swim focus.  Working completely on the running and biking now thoug because still no access to a pool.  Should be in the next week or two and I'll be swimming regularly.

Anyway, hope everyone had a good new year.  Gotta update my training log now.

Still hitting the plan as scheduled (but it is the first week!) so back in the pool for the first time since before Christmas and I felt it!

3x100 (50m swim, 50m kick)
2x150m swim
3x100m swim (siting every 3 strokes)
2x5mins continuous tempo swim (75% increase to 90% and back again)
400m swim (75%)
250m swim (increasing pace every 50m)
50m swim easy
Wrecked now and drinking a deserved glass of red wine.
Long run tomorrow and hoping to do a 10K+, will let you know how I get on!
Well done to you all with your achievements and keep up the great work!
Cheers
David

I hope everybody are enjoying their training.

For me, it is a bit of a mind game where my brain just want to sit on the couch... But as I also do not want to be the only one not following his plan, then I go out and kick my butt

Enjoy your week end and whatever training sessions you'll have !

Nice swim David...!! I'm off to grab a shower after a sweatfest on the trainer and then pour me something cold to relax with.  Week 1 of the plan has gone quite well - I missed my swim volume on Monday by 100 yds - did 500 instead of planned 600 but hit everything else so far.  Swim planned for  tomorrow and 6-7 mile run Sunday.

Cheers everyone!

Thanks James and don't worry about the missed 100 think about the quality 500 you completed! You are sure catch up over the coming weeks.

Got the "Long Run" completed today, 6.35 miles (10.2K) went alright but legs heavy from the swimming last night.

Easy Swim and Bike tomorrow.

Cheers

David

Alicia - very true on pushing too hard too quick.  After a summer of cycling in which I made some good progress, I pushed on the running too far too quickly when I started in September and instantly picked up a series of nagging injuries.  Hopefully all good now and have a decent fitness base to build on.  When is your HIM this year?  I'll also check out your blog and training logs as well...good luck!  I'm not sure on the picture either - I think it's a matter of resizing it until you get it below the file size limit.

Hey James,

My HIM is June 24th so I'll start my 5 month plan in early February and let me know if you have any questions about my blog

Thanks for reading

did a nice long run today. 6 miles. didn't really know how to pace it but. avg mile was 11.50. took about 1 hour 11 minutes. after i was done. I think I could have ran longer. but didn't becuase that is not what my goal was. so now I have alittle bit more confidence that I can do 4 miles a few times aweek now instead of it being my long run.

I didnt hit my goals last week.  I ended up not training at all this weekend.  My wife and I had a busy schedule Saturday so going into the weekend I decided to move my rest day to Saturday and swim and bike Sunday.  After an unsuccessful trip to the gym to swim (the pool was closed for a birthday party) I let a bunch of little things get in my way and before I knew it the day was pretty much over so I grabbed my bike and went to put it on the trainer and I had a flat.  It must have been a slow leak because when I got off it Friday after my commute home it was fully inflated.  I found the hole and patched it but by that time it was well past when I like to get to sleep so I bagged the workout and got up at my normal time and biked to the gym today and did a 3.3 mile run.  My schedule for the week looks like this:

Monday: bike part way to and from work, and run 3.3 miles

Tuesday: bike part way to and from work, and swim 750 yards

Wesnesday: bike part way to and from work, and run 3.3 miles

Thursday: bike part way to and from work, and swim 900 yards

Friday: bike part way to and from work, and run 3.3 miles

Saturday: swim 1700 yards and ride an hour on my trainer

Sunda: Rest

Jason, congratulations on the run and you were dead right not to go further even though you could have. I have felt the same but if your goal is reached then there is no need to push on and you certainly do not want to risk injuring yourself!

Keep up the great work!

I was back in work today after 2 weeks on leave - a real shock. Still I got my scheduled run completed at lunch.

Cheers

Just reviewing my plan and fitting it in with work so have swapped Short Swim & Short Bike (Sunday) with Long Bike (Wednesday). This works better, I realise that now means Long Swim, Long Run & Long Bike 3 days in a row but at least it is the weekend and I will have had Thursday Off!

I will see how it feels this week and if needed change it around again.

Cheers

Hi everybody,

when setting up your goals, make sure you allow enough recovery time when you're pushing and make sure you're not overdoing it. Otherwise, it's the perfect recipe for injury.

My plan is calling for 8:35 this week (2:15/3:25/2:55). I hit 100% last week because I didin't want to look bad but was some kind of mind game... Will see how things go this week!

Enjoy and keep the smiles up!

Tonight is gonna be back in the pool since... too long...

Plan went well last week - 100 yds shy on 1 swim session but hit everything else.  Agree on the rest - yesterday was a long run day for me and it is apparent that I need a rest day after that workout as oppsed to the swim/bike double I had planned.  So changing rest day from Wednesday to Monday:

Mon:  Rest

Tue:  R-30 mins easy ST

Wed:  S-650 yds B-35 mins

Thu:  R-5K pace ST core

Fri:  B-50 mins ST

Sat: S-650 yds

Sun: R-8 miles
