Got some interesting news this morning... though I'm not sure, yet, what to think of it and I'm still waiting to hear more details on it.

In short, as a side thing that I do, I own/operate a fan site for the Cleveland Browns. It's a message board type site that is actually modeled directly off of how the team's official site used to be set up.  It's not large, under 1800 registered users, but it's active and well moderated.  Well, I've been informed today that the team's official message board is going offline later this month to be rebuilt, with no ETA on coming back online (perhaps months) and in the interim a couple of people from the team's marketing office are wanting to talk to me about linking to my site from the team's official site - or something along those lines.

The information I have right now is second-hand, so the real details may end up being different than what I've been told so far, but I expect to hear from the team by this afternoon.  I'm kinda stoked

Wow; you really are pathetic. I can hardly believe 1800 people even care about the Clowns.

Ahhhh, there it is Laughing

If it makes you feel better, we have a few of yinz Steeler fans that we keep around to talk smack with

Yanti is out of the water in 1:24:29

I know its triathlon related, but considering the title of this TAn, very appropriate.

Is it saturday there?  And they hold it on Sat?  Does Mike Riley do the commentary?

I'm glad it's her out there and not me.  The thought of being in mid IM right now turns my stomach.

Nothing a little bourbon, PS3 and porn can't fix though.

Anyone up to speed with programming?

I noticed the new PS4 is coming out.  No date, but I'm guessing by Christmas to capitalize on the holiday sales.

SO, I'm sure game programers are already working on ps4 based games - which got me wondering.  Who is in the lead?  Do the programers have to "dumb down" games to work on a system or are the systems too powerful?

I'm guessing when the system first comes out, games don't push them.  But at the end of a systems run, the games probably want MORE power...

I want that gig.  I assume he's part owner of that organization?  Or do they just pay him bank to be the voice/face of it.

I don't do game programming, but I am a programmer and have been around the game development circles for more than a few years.

They don't necessarily have to dumb them down, but there are fixed memory constraints that a game developer has to work within.  The static hardware also means a fixed resolution for your display, textures for graphics can only be of a certain bit depth, etc...

After all of that, then yes, there is the issue of how heavy of a CPU load you can put on the machine and still have acceptable gameplay.

When a new system comes out, it is as much about learning what the new hardware can do and how to get the most out of it as it is about creating something new and cool.  As a platform matures, developers get better at making good use of what they have available to them.

That's what I figured.

I could SWEAR that first generation PS3 games, even if they still look/play good/well, seem infirior to modern versions.

For example, Assassin's creed vs Assassin's Creed III (with 4 other versions in between).  Assassin's creed III looks amazing compared to the first one.  And all for the same system.

Madden and Unchartered are the same.  Madden for 2006 (or whenever the first PS3 came out) looks bad compared to Madden 13.

I guess they learn how to optimize the game for the system it's to be played on.

I figure that most gaming programers go overboard on detail and rendering then have to pull back as it hurts game play if rendering slows it down or if they don't come up with a way to cache it efficiently somehow - probably utilize memory better.

I'm letting others do that and keep my up to date.

There seems to be 3-4 Yanti tracking threads going so I just take a peek on occasion.
