Sounds like his fitting sessions are excellent. I've even thought of driving down there when I eventually get a tri bike. P3C is an awesome bike and the P2c is not far behind for the money. Tom may have reviews of these and the other models on his website. I've been looking at the Trek TTX 9.9 but need to save some more $$. |

Pro 4675 Wisconsin near the Twin Cities metro | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Trek 2300 road bike modified for tris, clip on aerobars. I can still stay within 0.5 mph of my training buddies who have tri bikes, but they've been riding a lot longer than me also. I can be competitve with my current bike, but it would be nice to have a new toy. Mike, can you tell us a little more about the bike fitting session with Demerly. I think a lot of people buy the bike first and then try to get fitted for it. I like the concept of getting measured, your position analyzed, and then try to find a bike that will suit you. But we all know that the bike still needs to LOOK fast |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Tom owns Bikesport Michigan which is in Dearborn (by Detroit) and I live by Grand Rapids (other side of the state). I went over the weekend before Christmas and was hoping to see some other brand of bikes than what is available locally. To my surprise he has very few for sale. What we did was I think 23 measurements of everything you can imagine. Torso, foot size, femor bone, leg lengths and some measurements multiple times using different techniques. After all that was done (about 35 minutes worth) he imputed all the calculations into a fancy dancy computer set-up and it kick out a frame sizing. Then he could pull up manufactures sizes and see what came close. It narrowed a lot of the brands down and some out completely. So when I called yesterday he pulled up my charts and went measurement by measurement through each thing and compared the models that matched my fit. It came down to the Cervelo and the QR and the QR won because the Cervelo comes in 56 and 58 but the QR has a 57 which was dead on for me. So far my opinion of him is top notch. He came highly recommended from friends and so far he has lived up to it. Very knowledgable about every aspect. He knows his stuff and is a very accomplished athlete in his own right. OK commercial over |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL So how is everyones swimming going? I never really knew correctly how to swim til I took lessons this November. Monday I went 2400 yards ( the longest distance in a workout so far) and today I went 2100 yards and had a new feat. The lifeguard at the Y is always harping on me about flip turns. So today I had to do 4 x 300 after my warm up and then 3 x 100 for my cooldown. I did flip turns on everyone but one where I almost ran into the wall. So let me pat myself on the back. Tommorrow should be interesting. 3200 yards!!! We shall see how that goes. I know it includes 3 x 700 ouch!! Hope everyones January ended up close to plan and that February will be a great month!!! |

Master 1671 West Bend, WI | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Wow- That is a lot of swimming! I am impressed Seriously I just got lessons in November- and seriously needed them. Still really dont like swimmimg but am way more comfortable in the water. My farthest distance has been 1600- but am going to start swimming more this month- my HIM training begins As for flip turns- they really make me dizzy- did you have that problem at first? Oh- and it has been in single didgets here- which does NOT make me want to go to the pool (great excuse- huh?) Tammy |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Yeah understand the single digits thing. This weekend will be the coldest temps we have seen since 94 As far as flip turns I still am not very good at them. When I first started would not breathe out so I would end up gasping for air and have to come the surface to early. The thing I struggle with now is sometimes I go to deep on the turn and I have to break my rythym to get back up out of the water to breathe so it is very unsmooth. But like I have said before, I have yet to see a lake that has cement walls every 25 yards, although it does make the lengths go quicker |

Member 130 Madison, WI | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL I try not to do flip turns. I reach out touch the wall, turn around and start swimming again. I don't want the added speed of the wall seeing as how i don't get that in open water. Kind of silly, I know. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Well I survived the 3200 yard swim. It took me 1:10, the workout I am following said 1 hour so I guess I need to get faster. But I didn't push too hard because I didn't know how I would do. I had to do 3 x 700 for the main set. Now seeing I am mentally challenged, how many yards in 2.4 miles? |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Birkierunner Did I hear you use Infinit? If so do you use the ironman version, prerace, postrace and what mixture. Any comments would be great. I am looking at getting some just curious if I am remembering right. Or if any one else inthe group uses it love some feedback. |

Pro 4675 Wisconsin near the Twin Cities metro | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Yep, I use the Ironman lemon-lime formulation. The taste is very mild and easy to digest. I like it because of the higher caloric content versus Gatorade Endurance. I started IM WI with 2 bottles of Infinit on my bike and then switched to GE for the remainder of the race. Last summer I alternated b/n Infinit and GE during my long rides just to make sure that I could handle both of them during the same training session (or race) and it didn't cause me any problems. This coming summer I plan to experiment with using a high concentrate Infinit that I can dilute with water (to simulate aid stations during a race) so that I can use Infinit for a longer portion of the bike leg of IM WI. |

Member 130 Madison, WI | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL For those of you who don't read my training log....here is my embarrassing story for the year (I hope): A word to the wise....drinking 3 quarts of water in 35 min isn't a good idea. I didn't really mean to drink that much that fast, it was just an oops. I normally drink a lot but I ended up drinking a lot very quickly and ended up with a small case of water poisoning. I had to go to urgent care. The whole thing was quite humiliating. I felt absolutely ridiculous. However, the whole thing is quite real and can be dangerous.....as the urgent care doctors told me. I have no clue how I did it, I just wasn't thinking. Anyway....just a heads up because if you don't think about it.... well, I'll just leave it at that. Oh yeah, I was told not to exercise at all on Friday since I needed to keep all the electrolytes that I could IN my body until I regained my balance. |

Pro 4675 Wisconsin near the Twin Cities metro | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Treadmill??? Wimpy???? C'mon embrace winter. I had a 35 k race today, but they cut it back to 27k due to minus 30 windchills. I think the temp was minus 10 at the start. I had 4 layers on top and 3 layers on the bottom. Ear muffs, baclava, and hat. Moleskin on my nose and cheeks and Dermatone the rest of my face. It actually wasn't too bad. Pic attached. That's me with blue and white racing uniform, bib 2076. I petitioned to get in the first wave but didn't get in. Stuck in wave 2 so it was hard to get in a fast train of skiers. Finished 83/800+ not great, but a good workout....
