Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread kns57 - 2007-10-02 10:21 PM Looking at all your avatars, I really think I need to change mine. I'll get my first running in tomorrow. Am recovering from doing a 30 mile walk for Breast Cancer this past weekend. It was awesome. Does walking count toward our run totals? If so, I may need to adjust my goal. Kendra aka kns57 Great about the Breast Cancer walk. That's just so awesome. And, yes, walking does count. You just have to make sure you log it in the run portion of the log though. I'm only walking until mid-October when I start some running so I just put a note as to what I'm doing in the comments so I (and everyone else) knows that I'm not actually running almost 2 miles at a pop...maybe by February or so, but not for a LONNNNNG time. Welcome to the team! Kelley |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Okay, I got up and did a mile this morning. I've decided to only count the run/walk training, and not when I just get out and do my long walks. I'm really trying to learn to run, so it is important to me to focus on that. Thanks for the welcome. It was fun last night reading all the logs that took place in just a day and a half. Oh, boy are we a wordy bunch. One down, 29 to go for my goal. I hope to exceed that goal! Run on Poison Apples, run on. |

I was just asking the team if they would like to see it here in the thread daily or weekly so they could keep track of everyone (you know to heckle someone that isn't doing the running)... Everyone - Since I need to send the spreadsheet to Cat no later than Monday PM..I will need running/walking all in the logs through Sunday Monday at noon or so please.
Sorry was I bossy? Dont worry no one in the world finds me scary.... As for the loosing penalty there are two concepts out there at the moment.... lower half in something clingly like lycra or naked (ish within reason) OR feet... gotta workout how to make a decision!!! Nope - not bossy. Just was hoping your weren't thinking I wasn't sending you the updated spreadsheet each day. Stacie |

For example my workouts are all using the walk/run method but I include the whole work out as a run session so all fo that time counts... Just be upfront and there will be no problems!!! Happy Running Cat Hm, ok then.... I need to state up front that my workouts will be walk/run combinations. Dee |

But everyone else is doing so great! I'm *gasp* actually looking forward to running tomorrow just so I can take advantage of all this enthusiasm. |

But not only are they typing a lot, they seem to be RUNNING a lot, too! (They're also posting bizarre photos of their bare legs and running shoes, but that's a whole different issue....!!!) RUN APPLES, RUN! Let's WIN this competition!

Yep. That was gross. The pumpkin puke was bad enough. The other one.... Well, we really didn't need to see that. LOL I did a short walk/run combo earlier today. So far, my knee is doing fine. I also did a swim. My shoulder is bothering me tonight. That's a NEW thing, and not something I'm happy about. I've been trying to improve my swim technique, and obviously, whatever I did today was NOT the right thing to do! I was dreading this run challenge. So far, it's not so bad. (Probably because I'm still doing more walking than running. Ask me how I feel about this later this month, when I'm increasing my run distance. LOL) What about you? Did you run today? Maybe it's been so quiet tonight because we're all out RUNNING?

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread i did run today. i was going to try for over 5. i was shooting for 6. but i wimped out i woke up with a pounding headache, and jason jinxed me with back spasms (which i don't know if i've ever had before) but i did get almost 5. i think it was like 4.7 or so. i'm ok with that, since i think the longest distance i'd gone before that was like 3.8. tomorrow i'll shoot for another 5 (ish) that should help our team totals. where you swimming at?? must be indoors? i'm getting to be a total baby about the cold water (i live right by a lake, so that's where i usually swim) you're a rockstar for getting out there though!! ETA-what are you doing for swim technique? i read total immersion and that got me through the race, but what are YOU doing? anything that will help me at all?? Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Hi, I'm mostly done running for the week, into the bike part of my workouts and doing 2 8 hour and 1 1:30 hour trainings at work and well ya a 20 page report here and there. I did do my first brick today though 13.75 mile bike (in the dark, 39 F) then did 2.7 miles. They were soooo right about calling it a brick, someone shot my butt with novacane and put fireants on my calves for the first almost half mile before things settled into a normal run. Anyway I will be buisy and not running much, may do another brick on Friday or may not, still have to get in another 37 miles or so this week on the bike. K off to do upper body workout, catch ya tomorrow or whenever. I |

ETA-what are you doing for swim technique? i read total immersion and that got me through the race, but what are YOU doing? anything that will help me at all?? Wow, GREAT RUNNING! Fantastic job! Yes, I swim indoors. In a heated pool. Wayyyyy heated. They keep it around 87-88 degrees Farenheit. (I need to put that there, so people don't think I'm talking Celsius. That would be WAY too hot! LOL) Where are you, that the water is so cold? I'm in North Carolina, and it's still really warm here. But there's no place to swim outside near here. So I go an indoor pool. As for technique, I'm reading Total Immersion now. It sounded interesting, so I tried it today.... And tomorrow, I'm going back to my old stroke. LOL (Or maybe I'll take a day off. My shoulder is killing me.) Maybe I'm overextending my arm? (The book says to stretch, so that's what I've been doing.) I swam in high school, but that was a LONG time ago. I picked it up again in August. I was never fast, but I can swim "slow" pretty well. As for technique, I wish I could tell you something worthwhile. If I ever figure it out, I'll let you know. Basically, I put my hand in the water and pull. Oh, and I've been told that I don't "splash" a lot. I also don't kick much. I don't even think about the kick, it's just kind of there, to stablize me. But, as I said - I'm not a particularly fast swimmer. We had the Swim/Bike Challenge last month, and I really enjoyed that. It really motivated me to get in the pool. I'm now doing about 1300 yards total each session. Since I'm on a roll, I figured I'd just keep going with it. Running though... Well, that's my weakest link. Running and I don't get along, at least not yet. I'm going to work on it this month.

(Yes, I know it's a big state, and I tend to think of the sunny southern portion of it. I conveniently forget the "other" parts. LOL) Fire ants, huh? Sounds... um.... delightful. My training hasn't progressed that far yet. I'm still doing wimpy mileages.

Expert 973 Berkeley, Calif. | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Today was a swim day for me too. The swim's definitely my weak link -- in that I've pretty much given up on speed and am just aiming for survival in my race next month. I keep hearing good things about Total Immersion, but I haven't checked it out yet. I'm pretty sure I'm going to join a class at the Y next month and work on getting faster during the off season. (I can't believe I'm already thinking about the off season when I haven't even had an "on season" yet.) Back to running tomorrow. You guys with your long runs are awesome! I'm shooting for 4-4.5 tomorrow -- if I hit 4.5 it'll be my longest run in, well, pretty much ever. |
