Welcome, Paul!  I may join you at the October 10k, and I think Yanti's doing the 5k version.  No more swim at Zuma?

I used to think like you , I lived in 2 very cold and wet countries before moving here . But now that i am here for a few years i really appreciate the fantastic climate and facilities we have to train outdoors all year long.

Last night, something made a LOUD and SERIOUS bump in the night here at this BIG house I'm housesitting at all alone.

I'll take it as a good luck charm!

Tonight, I bit into a bar of chocolate ... which had a worm in it. No kidding! I bet the Creepy Crawlies are behind this ... they are going to get it!

No running for me tonight after all. I bumped my training schedule over 1 day in order to accommodate a swimming class I'm going to be taking that starts on Oct. 15. I'll be swimming on Monday and Wednesday nights which meant I needed to move my running days to Tuesday and Thursday instead. I did still go to the gym though and got in 30 minutes on the elliptical.

Beth - You'd love it here. I spent the first 32 years of my life in Tennessee and I've been out here for the past 11 years. It's difficult for me to imagine going back to a rainy and/or cold climate now.

Got a mile in this morning, as part of a mini-brick in preparation for my race on Saturday. Nothin' doin' tomorrow, so I'll probably do a very brief warm-up run the morning at the race site (literally, like just a few minutes to get my legs going, since I'll have been in the car for an hour and a half).

man, that beats running in a boring subdivision ANY day.

Going up to help with the VA double/triple tomorrow.  Planning on running and riding a bit up there since it will be totally new territory for a challenge.

Did a killer swim this morning--getting into the "zone" I forgot where I was in the plan of the day and did all sorts of insane things

Go get' em Yanti! LOL

No running for me this morning. Today's a day off running. I'm supposed to do strength training tonight but Husband and I are going over to a newbie meeting the San Diego triathlon club is holding. Depending on what time we get home tonight I may be able to squeeze training in, but if not I'll catch it up tomorrow night.

The only thing that I know of that goes Bump in the Night is Grandma and her walker.  Defeating night bumping objects is easy.  Just find her glasses for her and help her back to bed.

BAD OMEN RULE!!  You have now been cursed.  Bad luck will follow you everywhere.

No, what goes bump in the night is the roaring sounds of our feet hiting the road, treadmill/track...and whatever else we RUN on

Bad Omen = B.O.

Ah, curse away ... all my "bad" luck turns into good luck. I consider myself one of the luckiest girls in the world. One of my fave sayings is "Events I thought were the end of the world turned out to be gifts." I'll give you a running-related one!

I went into my first marathon with a stress fracture (and not having touched land running for a month until the marathon itself). Several great things happened: 1. It forced me to slow down and really enjoy my first marathon, not just run it; 2. I ran the entire marathon in the company of Carleen, a training partner, and this bond has sealed us into a friendship that is quite beyond belief to this day, 3. Recovery was great--had enough energy to go surfing the next day and, um, body surfing ...

I had a gorgeous, "haunting" first marathon experience that I may not have had if I were chasing a clock. A lot of people "blow out" on their first marathon and never want to do one again, but here I am, working on #5.

And some more inspiration for the troops ...

Untitled     (Maureen Mullins-May)

They said I couldn't run.
So I ran at night in dreams,
And chased myself all day.
At least that's how it seems.

They said I couldn't run,
But I knew that they were wrong.
I worked and slept, control I kept,
And I seemed pretty strong.

'Til one day they said I couldn't run,
I realized they were right.
And so I stopped and took a look,
Then thought with all my might.

And realized some running wasn't all
it was cracked up to be.
Because instead of running toward a goal,
I was running far from me.

So I got me some new sneakers
And I laced them up real tight.
Threw on my pants, my shirt, my hat,
And stepped into the night.

Where dreams are always waiting
For strong hearts to set them free,
unshackle fears, stoke raging fires,
banked down repeatedly.

They say, "Look at her run" now.
Mile by mile I make my way.
I'm getting back to being me.
Right here. Right now. Today.
