Ok, it's official...20 miles on the bike did not kill me...yet.  We'll see what the quads are screamin' tomorrow, but so far, so good.

On the Athens course none the less.  New goal, to be able to finish that course in under 2 hours.

I was looking at my monthly totals and realized that I have less then 5 miles on the bike to reach 100 for the month of December.  100 seems to be my number right now...100 for everything!!

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately, I've been very busy. After looking at a bunch of different things I have adjusted this year's race schedule.

I plan on doing the Olathe Half-Marathon on March 29th and then after that I plan on doing a sprint tri on May 4th.

Also I'm going to be out of the country December 26th - January 2nd so I won't be able to post at all in between then. I'll see all of you after that, have a Merry Christmas.

So is everyone getting mentally ready for the jszat mentoring experience?  It may astound you with its intensity, physically perhaps, but primarily mentally and spiritually.  Know that it is ok to cry and you will be fine.   Is Jan 1 go time for everybody or what?

I'm good to go...been working on consistency...now I need to write it all down and build, baby, build!

As a woman you have never been kicked in the ballz or even worse, grazed just the wrong way.  Painful.

I am already proud of the consistency on the bike these past months outta ya and think that is going to help tons.  Are you going to make your own plan or use something on BT for 08?

No, but one day I will go through child birth. I think that trumps ball kicking.

Moving on....

Here's where part of my problem lies.  I'm not sure which BT plan to go with.  The beginner ones I'm a bit beyond. They don't have a ton of intermediate ones.  I have the Triathlon Training Bible floating around my house somewhere, but it is currently MIA.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Part of my build strategy is still going to be focused on increasing time vs. mileage, at least in running, but I know Dave wants to torture me with some intervals.  I might be at a point where I can start incorporating some other things as opposed to just going all the time.

I'm ready to go. Got the trainer for Christmas... got a couple options gym wise. It should be a very productive Winter.

I still am working on my plan. I know that I can stay focused on a running plan until my half-mary in April and then transition into tri training after the race. My only and major concern is not giving the HIM all the work that it is due. From April to the end of August I have close to 20+ weeks... but I don't know about the balance of everything with racing (Sprints and Olys) in between.

Plan wise I have looked at the ones on trifuel and thought about using something here on BT but have not completely decided yet.

ETA: Oh, and no crying... Maybe some b!tchin' and moanin' but no crying.

"Are you crying? Are you Crying? There's no crying in (baseball) Triathlons

Basework and frequency are your friend when in doubt methinks.  If you can gradually work on increasing time or distance (whatever motivates ya better) up to your longest race distances on their own, its probably a good thing from a confidence building standpoint.  I dont know that ints are the best idea right now, but I dont have Daves coaching background on the run.

Alright...moving us back up in the ranks...

I think time works better for me, at least on running, just because figuring out 10% extra distance would probably drive me batty.  Bike and swim I could do distance, just given current training situations in using a pool and computrainer.

Intervals will be interesting to try...don't know how much I will incorporate them yet, but we'll see.  All I do right now is just go...there is a distinct sense of monotony that will drive even me batty.  Part of learning about different things is just my need to learn.  I hear people talking about different things and I have no clue what it means and I find it frustrating.  I don't know what a tempo run is, or what's considered a recovery ride, or any of that.  I want to know what they are so I can at least say no, I don't need to do that just yet, or hey, maybe that would be something that would be useful to me.  Part of it, too, is because other people around me get asked "What kind of ride (run, swim, etc) are you doing today?" and no one asks me... like they look at me and know that I'm not there.  It's an ego buster.  It's stupid, yeah, but it's how my brain works.

I think a lot of it is going to depend on building the cake so to speak, that is putting in the miles and repetitions.  Dont overthink it at this point.  I would just try and up my number of days running and biking, see how it feels and adjust accordingly.  I am telling the Mrs the same thing here too.  Speed work without adequate base is a recipe for injury.  I know this cuz two different attempts to reenter endurance stuff led to injuries from ramping up too quick.  My personal focus right now through about mid march? More miles at an easier pace to prep for speedwork nearer to the season.  There are varying approaches to this, but a lot of what I have read (and experienced) is that you gain a lot simply by upping your volumes, throwing in some speedwork once or twice every week or two (though usually I dont do much until about 1.5 weeks before an event.  Dunno.  I think this approach has yielded decent results for me and kept me more or less healthy (knock on wood).  I will be experimenting with more speed stuff this year in a few months, but cant argue with progress I have seem just by getting in the miles.  Speedwork running for me is generally fartlek stuff, tempo pick ups to light poles and other landmarks, nothing too fancy.  Base stuff aint sexy, but it works and I would suggest summoning your donkey heritage for this kind of stuff.  Throw in some pick ups when you wish, but again, picking up volumes will help ya methinks.

Yeah... It is go time. I need to get on training for the half-mary and blend in some of the tri specific stuff. I should be finally getting my bike back today so I am hoping to jump on the trainer for a little bit tonight.

The wife is interested in "gettting healtier" in the New Year so keeping a good nutritional focus should be a lot easier in the coming months. I am excited that she wants to get moving on her goals... While I was getting ready for work she was doing a work out video. So she is full steam ahead.

I didn't get arrested or anything but I really could have used an IV drip yesterday.... Ugh. I just can not hang anymore and should adjust my partying accordingly.

So where is ultrahip_00/Mike? Did he disapear?

So does everyone have their races planned for the year? I think I have mine finalized.

4/5 - Half Mary
6/8 - Wendy's International Triathlon (Sprint)
7/20 - Columbus International Sport Festival (Olympic)
8/24 - Great Buckeye Challenge (HIM)
9/7 - Portage Lakes Sport Festival (Olympic)

I can probably throw in another Olympic possibly on 6/22 but don't know yet. I think I will have enough recovery time in between the Oly on 7/20 to the HIM on 8/24... I really hope I am not pushing things with a Oly so soon after my HIM.
