Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kaburns1214 - 2011-02-19 1:17 PM Almost 90 miles on the bike and then a 5 mile run. Now its naptime (and lots of cleaning to do too). That's impressive! What do you do to stay engaged for that long on the trainer? TV? RCV? Intervals? Steady State? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of aveage power are you generating over that period? I banged out Spinervals 27 (Threshold Test / Sufferfest) on the trainer today: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/69347806 From my data, I squeaked out about 253 W (average) during the 20 min TT test. So, I guess I will use that as my new baseline for setting up some bike training zones. There were people (or maybe just one person) in that video that were cranking out 340+ watts during the test... do I have that far to go or is that just some exceptional riding? Also, as he walks around, he calls out people's heart rates... I always seem to be low in comparison (I ended the test at 153 BPM). I feel I gave the test my "all" - there was no way I was going to gasp more that one word to anyone during that test. What might be going on there? Edited by RockTractor 2011-02-20 10:41 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() abqtj - 2011-02-20 1:45 PM wow my rt heel hurts a lot now I felt it throughout the second half of the run, but it didn't bother me much, just uncomfortable. Now it's making me limp. Maybe running that distance in newer shoes wasn't the best idea? Or something else?? Good job on the run Steve! I hope the ankle is nothing serious! As Kumi and I were running the foothills Saturday it dawned on me that I had not called you to see if you wanted to join us..... so, let me say this now: you have a standing invitation to run with us anytime you want... just let me know. I'll also do my best to keep you in the loop on start times and locations. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This weekend was an off weekend. Well if you call car shopping with a 4 and 2 year old in tow an off weekend. Sunday turned into errand and family day. Learned I really am starting to need my long ride for my sanity and that the wife needs to find a hobby/addiction that serves the same purpose. Weighed in at 173.5 yesterday. Off to the gym, pool and therapy. |

I got in 1:30 on the trainer yesterday watching Wolverine X men for the 5th time. I am totally un-motivated right now. I thought a light week would restore my motivation but the cold/wind this weekend and not MFing snow is killing me. Think i'll give up training for hibernation or cross fit ![]() Edited by jsklarz 2011-02-21 6:30 AM |

I did the whole ride in Z1 (all of my long rides are in Z1) and averaged 141 watts over the 4 plus hours. For IMLP/IMFL I would like to be in the position to push 180+ watts for the 5-6 hour bike in high Z2. We're getting there. To make it through the time, we set up a Hulu queue. The Computrainer helps a little but it still takes a lots of mental effort to get through the ride. |

The problem I find with watts alone is that they don't account for other stresses on your body, whereas HR does. For example if you are feeling fantastic, your HR during a workout may actually be lower than normal or if you feel horrible it may be higher. By using HR you are able to take into account all the stress your body is dealing with. With watts there is no accounting for body stress. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() UHCOOG, RockTractor and of course, Kelly, You three seem to be leading this group in the time you put in. Kudo's to all of you, especially Kelly for having the discipline. On another note, I have never been in the condition I am now, for this time of year. So I am very happy about that, but I still have a long way to go!! I've been pretty consistent with my workouts, I just don't have the power you three seem to have. Consistency will pay off, I know it will!! Now that I told you I was consistent with my workouts, I actually missed yesterdays short run, which was also the start of my much needed rest week. So I made up for it this morning after my short bike workout, on the damn trainer of course. Wouldn't you know, it is fricken snowing again!!!!! |

Maybe running that distance in newer shoes wasn't the best idea? Or something else?? No sweat, Jay, I was working (and working all this next weekend). My heel/foot hurts same as yesterday right now. Not sure what it is. No sore to the touch at all, but when I step it hurts. If I stretch my foot (like toes-up) while laying down, I can feel a slight pull on a tendon/ligament (?) in the area that hurts. I've got meetings today and tomorrow, hoping just rest will help it improve. If not I suppose a doc visit will be in order. I sure hope it's nothing but a strain of some kind. I've never had a problem like this one with my feet/ankles. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did any of you see the photo of the bike rider from maylasia who was scewered in the leg in a crash and got up and finished to take third in the Track World cup. That thing was almost 8" long. Talk about gutting it out! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm at 143. Blech. I really only need to lose 3 lbs., so I think it will come off very, very slowly. Going to try to stick to my half marathon plan, even if I have to do walk/run intervals. I decided that I will participate in the HM, but I'm not trying to set a record or anything.....just go the distance. I might even have to walk some of it (if my injury is bothering me). I'm still rehabilitating different areas of my body, so things aren't 100%. My 2 tris in August are more important than risking worse injury in the HM. My kids are going to do the kid's dash in may, too. My 6 year old is built for running, and he's super fast. It ought to be interesting. My 4 year old is....well, she's 4. She (Madge) is still uncoordinated yet, and she tries so hard to keep up with Conrad (6 yo). It should be fun!!! |
