This week is a recovery week, and was wondering how many people here actually do recovery weeks, what mileage decrease you do, and if you do it across all 3 sports. - Mitch: S 4 / B 12 / R 14 / Rest Days 3 ; Total = 30 ; 21:11'25" |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just pulled the trigger for the Houston Marathon in January 2013, hoping that being in a new AG will make it a bit easier to qualilfy for "Bawsten". Still gotta pull a 3:15 or better which is the same as low 7:20 minute miles or even faster, there's always a bit more than 26.22 in a Mary. |

What's the average race temperature for this marathon? Upper midwest marathons now seem to have a high probability of cancellation due to heat. (Green Bay was cancelled mid race this weekend due to heat and upper midwesterners not being acclimated to it.) |

(Green Bay was cancelled mid race this weekend due to heat and upper midwesterners not being acclimated to it.)I'm assuming it's still the case now but I think the average reported temp. for Houston in January is a low of 48 degrees and a high of 62. I ran Houston in 2008 and it was exactly that. It's a very well run and very flat course unless they've changed it. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gabe- Again, you are an inspiration...Great Job Jim- Awesome job in that heat increase! Cant's imagine that anymore, but radiation nails us here if there is no shade you can feel your skin burning! Adrian- great going on that hilly coarse! Today I went to a crossfit class for an hour. Pretty pleased with my ability to hang in there. Today we did a few runs so I was able to finish with the guys. However my workout was modified because of the pullups. I used a band to help and the last set of 20 were brutal! went for a great ride outdoors afterwards. Taking Ernesto's advice and just working on getting out there, the elevation changes are a good enough interval workout. I didn't push hard on them-today... Crossfit time doesn't count but I had an 49min on the bike for 10 miles,...Slow but I took a challenging route. updating this weekends workout as well.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() chris2533 - 2012-05-21 2:59 PM Usually Houston is a 46 degree race at start, doesn't get too hot and it has been pretty consistent. Almost windless that time of the year, it is a HUGE race and it has been a sellout every year (with 40K entrants). It will be a challenge! I think I already have the aerobic fitness for that pace, I need the depth (base) and to shake off a lot of weight. I've been slowly although steady losing weight, about a pound a month since the year started. Not a lot but maybe at the end of the year I'll be close enough.ernestov - 2012-05-21 2:53 PM Just pulled the trigger for the Houston Marathon in January 2013, hoping that being in a new AG will make it a bit easier to qualilfy for "Bawsten". For me, even thought I did not have a strong running base, was slowing down and leaving your ego at the door. You feel like you are barely doing any exercise, specially at the beggining. I have to go with Samy on this one. Prior to training at MAF all of my runs were as hard as I could, and it was difficult to change that mindset. I would rabbit in the beginning and die at the end. That is the way I ran when I was young and that was the way I ran when I returned to running. I stopped improving and got frustrated. I stated training at MAF and now I'm hitting close to the same times but my HR is a lot lower, and I feel great after my runs. Give it three months and you will see it works. |
