Your time is quite respectable and really not as far off as it sounds. Three important factors that you have going for you already are your ability to run 70 miles a week injury-free, your understanding of the importance of patience and consistency, and the fact that you enjoy running." She goes on to give me more specific advice AND some recommendations for coaches if I so choose down the road. It's nice to know that I am on track. Well, I felt like I was on track but it's nice to have those feelings validated from someone who has been there. Did y'all see that? Patience! Me! Patience! Awesome! Might have to make you an honorary Canuck tho'...so's I don't have to cheer for an American... If I get a denim pants suit out of the deal, I'm in. Well fine. But part of the deal is wearing a beer helmet (over your toque of course), while singing the 12 days of Christmas, while building an igloo--which of course you have to sleep in. Don't worry, your dog sled will help you in your hunt of the cariboo for food. I went puppysledding around Lake Louise in the dead of winter! It was such grand fun! As for Salty ... I can see her doing that, and the igloo inexplicably exploding while she's trying to install a pole, and all the caribou for miles around fleeing in terror, and the poor dogs winding up looking like Tom and Jerry after firecrackers, but somehow everybody winds up warm drunk and happy on beer in the end anyway. Dogs and caribou included, of course. If this feat is fueled by beer I've got it covered. I do everything better when I've had a few. Right? No? My personal vote is that you should keep on drinking a few with smokin' hot guys the night before your marathons, with me along as sherpa, of course. |

Those were always fun days. Your soccer-girls reminded me of a funny story. So 3 years ago we sent our youngest off to college for the first time. He drove from Nebraska (where we lived at the time) to Irvine, CA by himself with his truck weighed down with all of his college necessities. So he got to school and who helped him move in to his room? The girls soccer team! He has always been a bit of a ladies man... So he's a ladies' man, intelligent, independent, resourceful, clearly a very fine-looking young man, has some of the most awesome parents on Earth, and ... he's of legal age? *ducking and running* I was expecting this from you. 18 is fair game or so I've been told. In some states it's 17! Not California, though. Not that I'd know anything about any of this. Yeah, you are more well-versed in the teacher/student laws. Ouch. |

The evening one my girl had a solo singing part and she brought the house down - a star is born! Watch out Adele! It was nice to catch up with other parents and neighbours, great community spirit at our school. Love it. A late night for the little ones - 10pm, will take her late to school tomorrow and be late for work - oh well! The boss is away.... She is a truly amazing girl. Amazing piglet parents, so many amazing gifts that she works hard to develop. |

I forgot to check weather.com before I headed out for my 90 minute run this afternoon at 4:15. 94 degrees. I am toast. I think I lost two pounds. For the last three miles, I kept telling myself, "Just stay in the box; stay in this box" and "If it's hard, it's good." Yeah, so the 90 minute run took me 100 minutes. It was definitely hard. I'd be panting ... and you're just fresh off a race, pretty much! And poor Jayson, but I'm glad he had a great day anyway. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh, I almost forgot I have some Masters Swim newb questions for ya'll. (I hope this doesn't come across as a 'how to count laps' question). At the practice tomorrow we will not have a coach on deck so I am assuming that it is going to be a set written on the white board. How does a specific send off time work if you are circle swimming in a lane? Do the lane-mates start every 5 seconds or so? Do I keep my own time? I suppose before this can work I need to figure out which lane I belong in. Didn't determine this on Wednesday as I just split a lane with the other newb (who, btw, was having trouble counting laps Thoughts? |

Didn't determine this on Wednesday as I just split a lane with the other newb (who, btw, was having trouble counting laps Thoughts? The lane I swim in generally has 2 swimmers who are faster than me. We just all go at our own pace. So, for instance, we did a set of 12x100 the other day. The others were doing theirs at 1:55 with 10s rest, I did mine at 2:05 with 10 s rest. On occasion, I took a few seconds longer rest to allow them to swim through, but it generally works itself out. If I feel like I am really holding someone up, I will stop at the wall and let them pass, but more often than not, it just pushes me a little harder |

Melon Presser ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ^^^ yup Keep your own time if you have different intervals. If someone taps your toes, pause at the wall to the FAR RIGHT (I'm assuming a counter-clockwise swim?) to let them be able to pass and push off the center. If you're on the same interval, fastest swimmer goes first, each person goes a few seconds after the other (5sec is nice if you have an uncrowded lane). |

Yikes! Not enough wine in the world my friends! So did I get to sleep in - er no, was up at 5.45am to do 45mins on the drainer - loved it, every second song cranked up a gear. Sweating by the end and proud of myself! - that's a rarity! I then drove to a friend for coffee, she makes the best in Melbourne! Then home and decided to rearrange Artemis' bedroom furniture, it was cramped and messy, now it's beautiful she'll be so happy! Mmmm a day off technically is always harder work that work itself. Darn it. I cannot believe I'm doing a HM on Sunday - what was I thinking! Days off can be exhausting! You will do a great job at your half this weekend. As someone told me a couple weeks ago, the hay is in the barn. Thanks! I just have to remember it's part of my training not a race - the city2surf I went a bit too hard, I definitely raced it. Forecast for Sunday - rain and 12 degrees, brrrr. Lucky I have a new long sleeved pink top to wear! |
