Glad you are feeling better, Felicia.  I'll let the more experienced runners answer your question!

I have (re)discovered that I do not do well on rest days.  Mondays are usually my scheduled rest day, but took yesterday off too as feeling a little sore.  But I am all grumpy and jittery last night and today...  I always eat too much and crap on off days too.  I generally like the taper, but I sense a difficult week... Sealed

Yeah I feel ya. Taper madness. I've learned to cherish my rest days and try to fill up my schedule with things I neglect during the high volume. The food part is especially tough.

Tapering - you look forward to it so much when you're at the peak of the training plan then when it gets here you are all moody emotional more tired, get sick etc!  Stupid!  I agree with Salty - keep busy do stuff like clean out closets etc things you never get around to doing, some nice walks are good too - then you get the mini rush of endorphins.

I'm so totally biased but she is adorable!

so I'm not posting my smilies coz today I got sick.  Felt a bit less than average when i got up this morning kinda like hungover but without the benefit of a good night!

Got to work had my coffee had lunch - tuna and rice salad and from that point on extreme nausea - like even the thought of a cookie had me gagging.  so I sent myself home at 2pm, managed to hold it together on the train by drinking a soda.

got home climbed into bed for two hours deep sleep woke up felt great.  A bit of a headache but nothing else, had dinner - steak with roast potatoes, delicious.

Incidentally had tuna and rice Sunday and felt ill after - could be this combo doesn't work for me - too much fat in the tuna for my lack of gall bladder to deal with...

So no training today - I'm going to forefeit the scheduled run tomorrow I figure missing one 45min run won't kill me.  I will do a drainer ride in the evening, just 45mins zone 1.  Not too hard.

I do also wonder if it is a little dehydration, I tend not to drink at swim squad coz we don't stop much or for long and I'm not thirsty coz I swallow so much pool water (also contributes to the nausea I'm sure - drinking water where band aids are floating around...yuck)

So the only reason for no smileys is coz I am sick!  My mood besides that is fine.

After my two hour nap I've been up 5 hours and Im back to bed!  I am exhausted!  Goodnight Manatees!

rrrunner - 2012-09-24 8:59 PM I don't think that ducking out for a month would be a problem. In a few weeks I've met several people who took a month or two off.

I think I'll mention it to Andie and see what she says. She doesn't usually do partial months but maybe she'll offer to let me come for, and pay for, the first and last weeks.

A partial month might be a great solution. I hope it works out.

BTW
When are you planning on Oceanside? I looked at the swim map and it is in a harbor. That doesn't sound quite as scary as I was thinking it would be.

I am doing Oceanside 2013 Undecided I would say I am slightly concerned about the ocean swim. Mostly because the race will be my first attempt at it.  I've heard that it can be choppy, especially at the turn-around. My son tells me to wear a nose plug and I've read RR that talk about the salt water taste staying with you in to the bike Frown

Oh, I was telling the DH about my October Masters dihlemma. He told me to just go ahead and pay for it so that I can go during my recovery weeks if I want to. He said I'll probably get about a week of no training and go crazy. Probably true but I'm not sure I'll be crazy enough to get up at 5:30 if'n I don't hafta! Wink

WOW pod, go off line for work and miss 6 pages caught up now.  No homework for me as I only worked and didn't train.

Jayne love the Avatar and goldens in general

Salty- Kicking arse again well done keep it up

Felicia- Great race way to stick with it to the end, I agree the beer would have helped.

Reece- I can only dream of going that fast on my HIM in January

Jo-  Great job on figuring out the stopping it's always the little things that cause the most angst, I also can only unclip on one side with any kind of normalcy

Ann-marie-  One of our locals has a new hairdew that can only be described as dreullet.  Dreadlocks-Mullet combination, it is fantastic.

TJ-  I say skip masters for the month of October get your swim in and recover fully and hit it hard in Novemeber.  Salt water swims the salt taste can stay with you I find a quick rinse with a water bottle in T1 seriously helps, just make sure it is just water in the bottle gatorade/electrolyte mix can make it sit around a while longer.

Melanie-  That's an awesome Jersey.

Hope I didn't miss any one!  Starting my month long vacation today YAY!!!  My main goal is to get all of my workouts in for the month.  I also have 3 weddings and 1 bachelor party to attend so I'll be busy in a good way.  Also get all of my housework done so I can concentrate on HIM training in Novemebr and December. Oh and the GRE at the end of the month I should study for that as well, dang I might need a vacation from my vacationTongue out  OK going to get at it!

Arabian Nights ... Araaaaabian Nights ... okay, happy 1001!!!

I'd sign up for Masters if it would make me go because I paid for it, even just four times.

P.S. Oceanside is awesome but everyone knows my opinion about that. Earplugs for sure (it's a cold swim) and maybe even Emilio's neoprene sandwich cap. Noseplug optional. The hairpin tip-loop out past the harbor is a fairly small part of the course, maybe only 20-25%.

Heh. Posted that just as you asked.

Actually in a danger zone as I'm feeling the teeniest bit better so of course I bounced around too much today and now I'm paying for it. Oh no, no training ... never even got out the front gate ... just literally too much time upright.

No, but they are fruit. It says so right there on the box. "Real fruit." How did you know that's what I'm primarily eating? Nm.

Oh Yanti rest up get horizontal again.  I had a good night's sleep a healthy 9 hours or so after my two hour nap.

Not feeling great - just not myself really!  It will pass Im sure.  Will eat healthy, little and often today see how I go.

I hate being sick!

I could take the day off of course but I'm not going to - though it's really sunny could take the bike out for a spin at the park.....dilemma - no.  It's school hols DH is home with Artemis and her friend Dakotah is coming over (she is a real handful!) - he's taking them to the movies.  So it wouldn't be too restful at home at all....
