All this hype about Sufferfest!!!! It can't be that bad right? Sure. Did The Angels sufferfest this morning. I haven't put an effort like that in, for a while. Alp d'huez whooped my a$$.

Bike fitting with Brian at Fast Splits up near Boston today. Not sure how you convinced me to drive 90 minutes for this Kelly!!!!!!

I had planned for this early morning of training. Got up at 4:20 to get to the gym to swim then run. I go out in our single digit temperatures to drive to the gym and the heater on the pool isn't working. The guy says to me that I can go in but it might be a bit cold - that was an understatement. Kelly - you know I hate not following your training, but there was no way I was stepping a foot in that pool....Ugh, what a day already! I hope it gets better! Got my run in though!

Morning everyone.  Still freezing here in CT.  4 degrees without wind chill right now.

Is it warm somewhere right now?

Yep, it's 46 ("feels like 41") here. I really need to start dragging myself out of bed in the mornings. I'm missing out on awesome running weather!

kidtri33 - 2013-01-23 10:14 PM Just thought I would share this little milestone. I changed my first tire! I put on a trainer tire instead of eating up my zaffiro's. It wasn't as bad as I suspected. Thank goodness for youtube and levers! Of course what I really need is a trainer rim so I don't have to change tires out in between. If anyone know where I can get a really cheap tire and cassette let me know.

Heh - I watched youtube also. Did you see the bike tire wizard guy? He's cool!

I bought my extra wheel and cassette from a LBS, but you could probably buy online for cheaper. At the time I knew nothing about what I wanted/needed so I let them tell me. It is nice to be able to swap out the entire wheel and not have to change the tire.

Although I will say I started using my tri bike on the trainer (always used my road bike in the past) so I'm not swapping anything out. We'll see how the tire wears.

I don't have Angels, but Downward Spiral is no picnic! I love those guys at sufferfest.

A good bike fit it worth a day trip Jeff. You won't be sorry.

I haven't posted in a while but all is well.  I have a 50 minute z1 run today and as Kelly mentioned, it is freezing here in CT.  I have no access to a treadmill, so it will be interesting to see how I fare in these temperatures.

Michele - congratulations regarding the wonderful news!!!

Have a great day everyone!!

I don't know if I have suggested these before:

But swim cords are a fantastic way to get a swim workout if you can't get to the pool / are traveling, etc.  They're really good for working on swim strength as well.

I see there are different levels of resistance with these cords.  I'm interested, but what would be a good resistance for someone just starting on these?

Keep practicing, Larkin!  I need to do the same because I am slooooow when it comes to tire changes.  This is something we can absolute prepare for with lots of practice!!

Need to squeeze an hour and a half spin on the trainer in today.  I also need to take the girls to the dentist, Abby's school opens registration tonight so I need to go there, making homemade pizza for dinner, and other random things.  Oh and I have a primary job I need to pay some attention to.  Blah!!!

Agreed on the cold this morning. 5 degrees with 30 MPH winds at my house. I did 90 minutes on the trainer and then drove to the Y and did 4 miles on the treadmill. No way I was running outside.

I think I have my schedule figured out finally. I'm going to do the REV3 Half in Williamsburg VA on 6/23. I'm going with the family and taking the week after off. Really this is later than I wanted my first race but with going to Disney it is what it is. Race 2 I'm either doing another REV3 race on 8/25 in Maine. Really this is the one I'd like to do but I'm worried about the fast turnaround from the first race. Option two is either doing Pumpkinman on 9/8 again or doing Croton-on-Hudson in NY which is roughly a 3 hour drive also on 9/8. Really none of these are the separation I was looking for between races but like Scott says in the post above balancing a job, family, etc.........it isn't easy to get training in half the time never mind the races you want. Going later in September or October it conflicts with the girls sports schedules, etc.

I'll definitely need some advice on how to use the 10-12 weeks of training between the two races depending on which I end up doing.

So I don't have anything super exciting to share about my fit.  It was just a fit for my existing road bike, as I have never had that done.  Some minor angle and placement adjustments were made to my saddle, but that's really it. I think if it were a Tri bike fitting, it would have been much more involved.  I can say that Brian at Fast Splits is very knowledgable.

Jen, he does not use photos or video analysis.  He felt strongly there is no scientific evidence that proves those provide better fits.  it may for a less experienced bike fitter.  It also adds quite a bit more in cost.

He did put me on the Tri Bike "fit bike" if that's what you want to call it, and will email me with what bikes wouold fit me best.

I think the changes he made in my saddle position should provide more comfort, and relieve the stress on my arms and shoulders, and make me more efficient..

Brian did my fit two years ago for my TRI bike and did a great job. I was really inexperienced at the time and I think if I went in now it would be different. I could probably have my aero-bars pushed forward and my saddle raised as I go flatter without discomfort. At the time though no way in hell.

when I have my bike fit with my new seat post and saddle, video will be done with pictures. I emailed Kelly the pics before from my last and would be happy to post the new ones with the outline of the angles and all that tech-ie stuff. Kind of cool to see the before and after pictures. Let me know if there is interest.

Here's a big shout out to Karen, who recommended a pool for me to use while I have been in Atlanta this week. I went by there today and had a great workout. It was a really nice place - Midtown Fitness Center. Thanks, Karen, for helping keep me on schedule!

I was going to do the REV in OOB in August but I will be away. From what I hear, it is a really good race. But, (you probably know this) the water is cold and it is an OWS and conditions can be variable.

Awesome! Hopefully you won't have to use this knowledge too often! As for a trainer rim, I'm sure you could probably get something online, and probably even a little cheaper, but maybe also consider buying from your LBS. They would definitely appreciate the business, and it might also buy some goodwill to get them to help out with bike service somewhere down the line. Ok, off soapbox now.
