Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() pitt83 - 2013-01-11 8:08 PM blueyedbikergirl - 2013-01-11 7:13 PM I was president of our state mountain biking advocate group for 3 years and Anna's PTA for 2. I can't count how many tables I've staffed, hours I've covered for or waited for someone who is supposed to show up. It's a universal truth for volunteering. It sucks, but I keep doing it or groups I believe in.Hi TAN. Why can't people show up for volunteering shifts? Or at least contact someone to let others know that they won't be showing up? I just got back from volunteering at packet pick-up for the Polar Dash and was supposed to be working the 10:30 - 1:30 shift. There were supposed to be more people showing up at 12:30, and then at 3:30. NO ONE showed up. The volunteer co-ordinator eventually called her daughter to come and help! Packet pick-up is open until 8pm tonight, but I HAD to leave as I started to get a monster headache around 1pm. Ugh. I am president of our trails organization and we have a small board, but can usually get 100% coverage of the things we set out to do, but you will also run into illnesses or late because of other things. We keep volunteering for other groups also, but sometimes you get burned out when others don't show up for what is needed.

I run a baseball league here in Madrid. 200+ kids, more than 400 parents. I do everything from organizing the league, to ordering uniforms and equipment, soliciting donations of food and drinks to sell as refreshments to fund the league, schedule the games, umpire games, work in the refreshment stand, to scheduling outside events. I do it because I enjoy it, believe in the positives that sports bring to kids, and want to give something back. While there's always a core group of 3-5 people that want to help out, the thing that I just don't get is the extent that the huge majority of parents have no interest in something that is to the benefit of their kids and is a minimal infringement on their time. |

Ugh. luckily the women on my rowing team are generally pretty good about not only volunteering for thing but actually showing up when they do. The benefit of a relatively small group I guess. I really like volunteering for races - I like seeing the excitement from people, especially when it's someone's first race, or they're doing a race with their entire family or something. Thankfully this was pretty well organized - but the head organizer definitely gave me the stink eye when I left. Sorry lady, but I stayed more than 5 hours after my shift was supposed to be done. If you're the co-ordinator it's YOUR job to make sure there are enough volunteers to cover everything, not mine. |

![]() | ![]() I'm having a bourbon ale from. They use bourbon barrels for the brewing. It's darn good. The whole foods here does a bunch of craft beers and they sell growlers that you refill. Pretty good. Do they do that everywhere? |

Kinda the same night here (minus the pinot).... went for a run, came home and showered and put on pajamas at 6pm, cooked dinner and hung out at the house watching some football and movies. Always a nice night relaxing like that. |

I try to stay out of the dating thread, but I find myself getting sucked in to read it from time to time. Morning Chris. Honestly not really. He is still not home and I haven't heard from him again. I am trying to stay positive but it is difficult. it seems to me that there are just too many neurotic, messed up, people and just way too much game playing going on in the dating world. Well, as they say, everybody is nuts in one way or another... the goal of dating is finding that person where everything wrong with them is alright with you, and vice versa. Gotta find your "complimentary crazy" |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning TAN
Foot cramps in the arch of my foot during my run yesterday, but this morning I'm worrying that it may have been more than just a cramp because it hurts to walk on today. Hoping that it's just lingering soreness and not something worse :-/ Why can't injuries happen when you're not training for anything specific? |

![]() | ![]() Hey Chris, sounds like Plantars Fascitis. Make sure you stretch after workouts. Your hammies and calves can cause that pain and cause worse on your foot. I had neglected my stretching for a while and now my left foot is having the same issue. Back to stretching with the towel around my foot. |

I am trying to stay positive but it is difficult. it seems to me that there are just too many neurotic, messed up, people and just way too much game playing going on in the dating world. At this point I'd settle for someone similar to me who at least KNOWS they're neurotic, messed-up, and just doesn't care enough to play games anymore! I might have a date with a good friend this week ... benefits. Not why they're a good friend, though. Was that before. YIPPEE! That was for you, not me. |
