I read this book right after it came out...it's pretty good but you'd better be ready for some LOOOOONNNNGGG weekends.  I think you mentioned the 5+ hour transition workout they have you do every week.

I see those. Fortunately for me, they are a little further into the plan than I am right now. Not sure if I'm excited or a little afraid of them--probably some of both!

Crazy weekend around here and it is leading right into a crazy week. Last weekend, my wife's grandmother had a minor stroke. She is doing relatively well, all things considered, but is in the hospital for rehab and will likely be there for another couple of weeks. C went up to spend the weekend with her parents and help relieve her mother of the burden of spending all day at the hospital. Leaves me with all the house and yard work (not complaining, just explaining). We are still trying to catch up from C starting a new job about four weeks ago, which is a big change for us since prior to that she had spent five years at home. Easing into this week we have an impromptu visit from my parents today and tomorrow, followed by a research competition for my students on Tuesday.

Saturday: Long run (1:30)--this one sucked. Gotta figure out hydration, which I think is probably going to mean stop drinking coffee before my long Saturday runs! I don't know about that though, without coffee I'm liable to get myself lost in my own driveway--brain doesn't work so well before the coffee. (#129)

Sunday: rest day

Monday: started off with a short run (45 minutes) followed by 15 minutes of yoga (#130). Will squeeze in a swim at lunch.

Hey Gretchen - You are the top of the page! And page 50 at that! Just goes to show how awesome you and the group is! Let's keep it up people - the season is right around the corner!

I have the same book on my bedside... I agree - the weekend workouts are long but since the book is for time crushed people - the plan gets it's moneys worth out of Saturdays and sundays!

Got in a back, arms, and leg workout this weekend, all without leaving the backyard.

After 70 degrees on Friday, it's snowing today (why not, it's April?), so today's run will have to be on the treadmill. Blech.

Ended my recovery week which had morphed into "doing nothing at all".    Short lunch run today and then swim practice tonight with some weights thrown in.

Happy Monday!

Been there and done that... I like Jamison's as Irish Whiskey's go but nothing holds up when when youre drinking like your 20 again. Feels better soo - enjoy the pool and the weights!

Sadly probably not the Sox. I haven't really followed the team in years (too much else going on), but to the extent that I care about professional sports, I'm a Sox fan.

And yes, picture upload fail. Apparently you have to do more than hit the little picture icon and add your directory path? What am I missing? Figured it out. Apparently it works as an attachment, but not when you insert the picture.

Tomorrow I'll go with the bike again - maybe 45 minutes this time on the roadie.
It felt SO good to go to the gym today and do something!! I have been a caged animal the past week and a half. I'm praying for no increased pain/tightness.
Smiling here!

SO glad to hear it. Nothing sucks more than being sidelined and I'm glad to have you back in the game.

Don't worry - you've got plenty of time to train for IMMT. I would saw the key right now si spending as much time as possible on the bike. It's the toughest part of the course and since you can get on yours - it's the best way of making progress.

You will do this and the poutine they will hand you when you cross the finish line will be heaven on earth! No seriously - it' will make 140.6 totally worth it! So too will fist pumping Mike Riley!

Hey BDAS: In additional to Triathlon Book Month - I'd like to propose a goal for the month of April - Something I'm calling the INSPIRE ME CHALLENGE. Do you guys know about inspires? They are basically little messages that you leave on peoples' logs (1) click on screen name in the forum -2) above the person's picture/click on go to training log, 3) Click on the Inspire Me button above the right corner of the BDASer's workout for the day, 4) Type a short (or long) inspirational note in the box, 5) and then click on the blue Post Comment Box in the botton left corner. Easy Peasy! Leaving these little messages can make such a difference.

To see if you have received an inspire - just look in the in the upper right cover of your page. Click on the link and it will take you to your message.

So heres the goal - try to leave 3 PER WEEK for the month of April. Thats more than 100 inspires for the group. Let's see what happens when we take this extra step to inspire our fellow BDASERS!

Game on!

The Phillies (belated April Fool's joke).

I'm actually with Gretchen on the Cubs, though I think my local O's are a little underrated and could make some noise if their pitching holds together.

That´s the point, looong weekends, when you have no time during the week - I can take 4-5 hours on Sat morning (8 to 12/13pm) - rest of the days is 1 to 1.30h, max 2h which is a LOT for a busy life like any of us.

Sunday 15km run - today 2500m swim..... race season is here already.

My Book - Swim, Bike, Run, -- Eat came in the mail today (along with Runners World and Triathlete - BANNER DAY )

Here are the thee most interesting things from the first chapter I read on losing weight healthily

1. Idea body weight equation

For women it is 100 pounds for the first 5 feet and 5 pounds for every additional inch.
For men, it is 106 pounds plus 6 pounds for every additional inch
Then there is a 10% safe range on either side.

2. Lose weight is 80 percent nutrition and 20 percent exercise

3. Basic eating plan
Meal # 1 7am Breakfast
Meal #2 10am Protein heavy option
Mean #3 1am lunch
Meal #4 4pm fruit and peanut better
Meal #5 7 pm Dinner
Meal #6 9 pm protein option

I am liking the eating plan - I clearly still don't eat enough protein. Peanut butter is my go-to option lately, on a good piece of toasted homemade bread.
The weight equation is interesting - I know it's probably generalized - it puts me below the "safe" range...the bottom of my safe range is 126 which honestly has been about where I've always lived my life since high school. My race weight dropped me down to 118 last summer but I may need to get more calories in. This is where that thing Gretchen did with her nutritionist comes in handy.
When I read what some of the pros eat - or claim to, it's really not that much food in their daily diet. I was pretty surprised.

Gorgeous gardens!!! You will be loving that come July/August!!
How much snow did you guys get in MA? Northern VT got zero in the Champlain Valley. So weird. Cold though!

Bricks stink - that's why we have to practice them....so we hate it less in the race. hahaha

Really great summary, Gretchen. I may piggy-back off of yours with the full IM version of the same book if that's okay with you. It looks like a bunch of it is the same - training with time, not miles, etc. probably until we get to the plans.

45 minutes on an elliptical free-strider - not to be confused with the regular elliptical. I must have looked like a buffoon on that thing. It took a while to get my legs going the right way. hahaha.
I had hoped for an hour but it's different enough from the regular elliptical that I wasn't comfortable on it (couldn't stay in zone 2 - always in zone 3) - my right arch started to hurt toward the end so I clipped it short at 45 minutes - covered 5.1 "miles" and it felt like it - no fan and stuck in the corner, I sweat like it was mid-August in Louisiana.

Yesterday I biked on my roadie until my back got tired - so 1:13 in zone 2. It's feeling good to do something. I went to the chiropractor today but don't feel any different yet. My PT has been in contact via email, checking in and urging me to do my stretches/exercises a few times a day as time allows. He did say I can try a short, easy swim to see how it goes. - I'll probably forego the flip turns.

No snow here, but it was 14 degrees when I got up this morning.
