Good morning. Nibbs.

My kids got one of their workouts done. It's two-a-days for them this week at swim team. I'm still resting and recovering, but am now back on a healthy diet. No more Dunkin Donuts (or French fries).

Yep, back on the healthy diet bandwagon for me too, after I finish off the leftover french toast from yesterday morning (I haven't cooked french toast THAT good in years )

Brought DS #1 to work with me this morning for swim lessons, 30 minutes in my office and I'm thinking he's going to daycare as soon as he's done (even if it does cost me a gallon of gas)

barqhead - 2008-06-15 5:06 PM Way to go Judi, Jen and Heather. Has anyone heard from Sal? Saw that he finished his HIM, but no details. [/QUOTE No details posted, I looked too.  He usually keeps Sunday as a family day so my guess is he'll get around to the RR next week.

How was the hillbilly wedding?

They took it to the extreme. The bride's gown was trimmed with camo. The groomsmen and groom wore blue jeans and cam t-shirts. The wedding cake was decorated with leafy icing and a bride pulling a groom dragging a deer cake topper. The groom's cake was in the shape of a deer head. And it was red velvet cake. They ushered people on the backs of ATVs. I think I was one of three women at the wedding who wasn't sporting multiple visible tattoos (including the bride who had two that I could see and she's 19). People were standing around smoking during the ceremony. My hubby whispered "you're the fittest girl here". Kind of hard not to be as I was one of the few who weren't morbidly obese and stuffed into short shorts and halter tops. My hubby took lots of pics. I'll try to download them and some from Mooseman into my albums later. I can honestly say it was the most unique wedding I have ever attended. Oh. Can't leave out this detail. A rooster kept crowing all throughout the ceremony. I swear someone must have been pulling its feathers to keep it going.

OMG!!Bring out the dueling banjos from "Deliverance"!!  That gives a whole new meaning to the definition of a hillbilly wedding!

OMG!!! This sounds like my hometown... every groom has red velvet or choc cake either in the shape of some wild game (I've even seen a wood duck) or it's  a bayou scene with a bass boat and bass.
So I gotta ask, b/c this will be the final test... is the bride pregnant and was she allowing her belly to show????

Hey Pam... when you've done the ice baths for your hip, how long do you allow yourself to sit and do you heat it several minutes later and then stretch???
I think I really did a number on my IT band this Sat... It even hurts just to lie on my side.

Ouch. This is what I have done immediately after a workout. First, stretch. I will squat my right foot crossed over my left knee for 30 seconds per leg. Make sure your left knee does not bend past your left foot. (and vice versa when you switch sides). Another good IT stretch is to lay on your back and bend one leg so the heel of the foot is almost touching your hip. Also, lay on your side on the bed and bend the top leg at a 90 degree angle and allow it to dangle off the side of the bed. Your weight should be on the opposite shoulder. You can even get your husband or kids to help push that shoulder into the bed so you get a good stretch. After stretching, I do the ice bath. I can usually tolerate 15 minutes of this. After the ice bath, I take ibuprofen. If you have a foam roller, this works wonders on IT band. Also the stick is good, but very painful when the IT bands are inflamed. I have to have someone else use the stick because I won't press hard enough to get it to release. I wish I could give you a timeframe for recovery, but I'm already over a week off and I still feel it

UGH!!!  Thanks for the additional pain tips   Sounds like I'm on the right track minus the ice bath and kids pushing on me (of course they do try to puch me around in other ways

So I think tonight's plan will include.... heat then stretch then ice bath and IB (maybe with a beer too)...

My favorite stretch so far has been standing next to an non-moving object (ie counter top or dresser) and pushing with inside arm while bending towards it while weight on outside leg to stretch the IT band of that leg.

Ok, other than prancing around like an idiot in a hula skirt this weekend, and playing with my Garmin, this was actually a TOTALLY uneventful weekend. Although Meredith informed me that she and Davis have made up a box of "Father's Day stuff" that's to be mailed to me shortly.

Oooo, a surprise box of "stuff"!!!

Yep, I did read your blog. I wanted to know about the hula skirt.

They don't do things like that where I work. LOL

he good news is... the Garmin is an excellent training tool.

The bad news is... I've been underestimating my run distances by 15-25% with the car odometer and the Nike+ (which is a POS IMHO and a waste of money). Now I know why I hit the wall at 17 miles in CIM and where my run fitness has gone (couple actual shorter runs with less frequency = lost run fitness). The good news is I can get it back, but its going to suck. I'm just going to ride my bike and do the runs and not worry about it. This is hobby, and I'm still in better shape than 99% of the people out there. Cool

I'm also definitely injured with my right foot, too, so increasing mileage too fast right now - not a good idea. I've got plenty of time to get ready for the marathon, its not until March.

Wow, I'm surprised that the car odometer has been underestimating by that much. That's a bit disconcerting, since that's how I measure my mileage. (What little there is of it! LOL)

And yes, you ARE in better shape than 99% of the people out there, and this IS supposed to be fun. (Why would you want to do it if it wasn't?) So just go out there and enjoy it.

Bummer about the foot. Hope it gets better quickly.

P.S. Love the new avatar! LOL

So I've been using the google mapping here on BT for mileage, I wonder how accurate THAT is???

I've noticed that sometimes the distances are different depending on how zoomed in I am when I mark it.

Any comparisons with it?

I used it on a long bike ride.  It was within about 0.2 miles over 27.5 miles. I think it is more accurate when you zoom in closer and make your points closer together.

Evening, Nibbs!

A wicked little storm just blew through the West End...love those little afternoon storms...our lights flickered and the temp dropped by 15 degrees.

Did a nice little run on the tready today (easier to play with the speed - and besides, I wanted to watch the end of the US Open playoff... of course, I finished my run as they finished the 17th hole, and then I went and got changed, and by the time I got back out to the TVs, there was no room to watch. )
