mr2tony - 2008-07-18 10:20 AM Lisa ... Had I known I would've `jostled' a long time ago. Yeah I did my 5K last night. In 22:39. SLOW ASHE! I sandbagged the first half. Of course it was on a treadmill after 1-hour bike ride.

Waa waa. I hope I can someday run that fast.

Sorry, forgot a smiley face or sarc font or something. Us single ladies who attend weddings are seeking of your type, though we'd never admit it. Girls need love too! ...

Fixed.

Haha, I'm not THAT desperate.

DAMMMM, that was harsh.

Oh, it wasn't a dig at 2goggs specifically. I'd probably let him hit on me at a bar (if he were single). You, on the other hand... :-P

Yeah. When you can run as fast as me, then I'll actually start training.

I think I might need to take a camping trip up to southwest VA in August and visit our family cabin at the state park there. Heven't been there in almost a decade.

Nice to know that the family name is now immortal.

Spokes - 2008-07-18 10:25 AM  I'm 46 and I'll probably never run that fast.

Certainly not with that attitude.

PR is 24:57 for that distance. Its not realistic to think I can cut almost 3 minutes off of my 5K time... which is one reason I've been thinking about quitting racing entirely the past year. The only reason I do it is it forces me to stay in shape.

What does your current PR time matter as to whether you race or not?  Isn't the point of racing to help stay in shape, and provide a challenge, as well as a metric to see how training is progressing?

There's more to it than your PR compared to someone else's.  Especially someone with more experience.

AW, thanks lady - you're pretty derned cute yourself. And you have nicer abs that I do. (When that pic in the BT girls thread was taken, I had abs like that - not so much right now).

Sounds like a blast!

x2! VA is a very pretty state. I was down in Bath County at the end of last month (about 4 hours southwest of where I am), for a race, and we camped out overnight - beautiful area.

ETA: fixed cuz I'm an idiot.

I was doing in Bath County at the end of last month...

What exactly were you doing?

I've been in parts of VA that were not so wonderful.

Spokes - 2008-07-18 10:35 AM  I agree. But I also know what is realistic to expect given my age and what my body can do. That 24:57 was about as much as I can push it to the wall. I don't know how, other than speed specific training - and dropping from 159 to say maybe 135 - I can shave much more time off of my time.

The reason it bugs me so much is I don't look terribly out of shape from a VISUAL standpoint to many out there racing, and I still get dropped by people that are fatter and older. That just drives me nuts.

Since when did reality become important?

Suck it up buttercup!  Wink

Oops, that was supposed to say "I was down in Bath County", thinking "doing a race" at the same time. The area itself is pretty "country" and I would go nuts if I lived there, but the land itself is very pretty.

It'll be a GREAT recharger.

I'll be going WAY down in the boot of the state, Natural Tunnel State Park and such. Figure a couple days of hiking and sights will do a body and mind some good.

The family cabin dates back to the late 1800s, and my Great Aunt, who was the last living family member who grew up in it, just passed away last month at age 100.

Back in '97 or '98 we dedicated the cabin to the park, and had it moved from the family property to the park, piece by piece (including the stone chimney). It's really cool to be a part of something like that.
