Veteran 494 Berkley | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread My google is failing me, but does anyone know of the website where you can see results as they happen for the race? I have the iphone app for my wife, but I want to send a link to some friends. 12 days, be safe everyone! Edit: The iphone app is called IronTrac, you can watch the splits during the race as they happen. Really cool and only 99c. You can only find your athlete after they have registered for the race, or race morning. Edited by deboerkj 2012-10-22 9:10 AM |

Member 763 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread A few quick question on tracking athletes at IMFL...(I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find it...) 1. What is the best method for a spectator on the ground in PCB to track us? It'll be a long and probably boring day for my Dad as it is while he waits for me, so I want to make sure he knows when I'm coming into transition, when I'm finishing and if decides to drive out on the bike course, to know generally where I am. I think the Ironman website has an athlete tracking page, but is that updated real-time or is there a lag? And does it work well on mobile devices? Are there other sites that are better for tracking on mobile devices? 2. Same basic question as #1 above, but this time for my family who are staying home in NY and will track my progress on a computer. 3. Will there be a live feed at the finish line so my family can watch me (God willing) cross the finish line? Any suggestions/ideas are very much appreciated (and sorry if this has been covered before.)

Ironmanlive.com has updates but there is a lag. Its not real time. I have no idea how well it works on a mobile device. They seemed to have improved itover last year when I was following someone at Kona recently. There is a device you can rent google track 'my athlete' Its a GPS unit you wear on your racebelt for the bike and run. THere is an iPhone app and a moblie link. There will be a live feed into the finish line for friends and family at home |

I think the Ironman website has an athlete tracking page, but is that updated real-time or is there a lag? And does it work well on mobile devices? Are there other sites that are better for tracking on mobile devices? IronTrac is probably the best app for mobile devices, but it pulls the splits straight from Ironman Live Athlete TRacking. My advice would be give him a time range to expect you and just keep an eye out. It isn't the easiest, but it is the most effective. You're dealing with technology. Sometimes theis page crashes, some times their info is wrong, lags, etc., so it cannot really be used as a precise tool. There are some GPS systems that are available with some mixed results, but my advice is it is a LONG day for spectators. Use the time you are on the bike for them to rest, eat, relax. Honestly, I went to bed earlier the night I spectated an Ironman then when I participated, it's that exhausting. If you expect to ride 18 mph, the bike should take you about 6 hours so tell hi to be at transition around 5:15 after you depart. I would advise against driving out on the bike course. It is very time consuming, no real good spots to park and just adds to the congestion for athletes on the course. 2. Same basic question as #1 above, but this time for my family who are staying home in NY and will track my progress on a computer. They will be able to track you here by your last name or bib number 3. Will there be a live feed at the finish line so my family can watch me (God willing) cross the finish line? Yes, there will be a feed and it is delayed. After I finished my wife called my cousin and a big group got together and someone actually videod it with their phone. |

Extreme Veteran 1018 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Find Friend app is great. It runs in the background and they can track you in real time. It will help if he knows the course. However, that means he has to have his phone which is against the WTC rules. However, that is up to the RD. RD at IM Augusta said you could have them; however, you can't use them while moving. Meaning...keep it in bento box, jersey pocket. Pull over, get off your bike if you have to make an emergency call. All RDs are different. |

I worked the penalty tent at a 70.3 event once and found out that useful tidbit from Jimmie Ricatello |

New user 57 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Question on flying with bike equipment. Most of the bike tools are probably not allow as carry on. So the torque wrench, CO-2 Carts, multi-tool, pedal wrench, floor pump, gel / powder are probably going to be checked in. What about bike helmet, wetsuit, and the bike pedals, bike shoes? Also you think a transition back pack is allow for carry on? I am using tri bike transport for the bike. anyone else using it? what do you put in the gear bag? gear bag is probably cost similar to a checked luggage at most airline. |

You cannot fly with CO2 even in checked baggage. I have seen people carry on a transition bag with wetsuit, bike pump etc etc. I actually use my tansition pack as a carry on frequently but without tri stuff in it for traveling. I don't know about the tools. You could put all the stuff in the gear bag for TBT tho and then not worry after it. |
