Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED kaburns1214 - 2012-02-02 5:08 AM I'm in, not crazy about posting my weight, but thats why I need to be incarrie639 - 2012-02-01 8:00 PM OK, so for the weight loss challenge here is who I have: Steve Carrie Kelly Jeremy Karen Sarah Scott?? Andrew Anyone else, let me know. We will start with a weigh in next Tuesday morning and submit weights every Tuesday morning. I will put together some sort of spreadsheet to track. Lets all try to track as much of our nutrition as much as possible (you can list in nutrition section of training log, easy and quick), for accountability, but also for suggestions or ideas of what some people are doing that might be successful. We have had alot of nutrition questions in this group. We will track for starters for 3 months or we can track through the summer. Please also send goals for the challenge, lbs or nutrition changes. For great motivation, Kelly please give us the statistic of how many seconds you gain running for every pound lost??? Weight loss corresponds approximately to a 0.62% (recently revised based on feedback and more recent data) and 0.42% per pound increase in running and biking pace respectfully. That works out to be about 3 seconds per pound per mile. HUGE impact. For most people that have extra fat to lose, a 20 pound weight loss is reasonable given a year's time, which results in about and hour time improvement in a full iron. An approach that includes losing weight and training can have a synergistic effect resulting in even larger improvements in performance. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED even after this physical therapy having calf spasms. Did some more research and am thinking it may be a symptom of siatica not a calf issue. It flares on my road bike, not my mt bike. ALso when sitting at work in the god aweful chairs and sitting for a while on my couch. It loosens when I run and swim. SO I am adding some new siatic stretches and will talk to the PT Tuesday morning to see what he thinks. |

Really I have yet to try something off Skinny Taste that tastes bad. We stumbled across a lot of these when Cindy tried Weight Watchers. Gina lists the point values of her foods. Oh and I'll continue to post as we continue to try. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED My favorite quick recipe is cubed sweet potatoes, quinoa, and collards with onions. I saute the sweet potatoes in broth or olive oil until they are crispy. I cook the collards, onion, and garlic in light coconut milk (I know it's not the healthiest, but my children and I need the fat). You could omit the coconut milk and it would still taste great. My kids eat this up!!! **edited to add that I mix all of these things up into one pot once I've cooked them seperately. I do lots of stews and soups. I use Moosewood Vegetarian cookbooks all the time. I'll have to see if I can link some of my favorites - California Kale, Tuscan bean soup, etc. I also make great Mexican tofu and quinoa stuffed peppers. New favorite - Navajo Stew (sweet potatoes, red peppers, onion, garlic, olive oil, cumin, tomatoes, chipotles in adobo sauce, cilantro, black beans served on flatbread or pita). I'll see if I can link the full recipe later.

Speaking of that, what is everyone making for the Superbowl? Got 30 mins on the eliptical this morning, and 30 mins on the stationary bike this afternoon at the gym, along with a quick quad and hamstring workout just using the leg extensions. I hate football. Really hate it. Sorry, dudes. My husband will be watching that solo on our basement flat screen, while I'll be watching crap he doesn't really care about upstairs. I do plan on making veggie chili anyway though. I'm not sure we can be friends anymore?!?! Next thing you're going to tell me is you don't eat meat.
Jeff since Cindy has been trying to lose weight we practically plan an entire weeks menu off of www.cookinglight.com and www.skinnytaste.com. Before that it was Paula Dean and The Pioneer Woman. Wonder why we're both thinner now. I know. It's so unAmerican (is that a word? LOL). I'll watch basketball, but that's only because I was a center for 6 years. Still is boring. |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED I just made this for the first time on Monday. I saw it on Pinterest. Yummo!!! Vegan Tacos 2 Servings 2 cups Cilantro Jicama, Red Grape Salad - recipe below 4 corn tortillas, warmed in the oven To Make: Assemble your tacos any way you'd like! I put the cilantro jicama salad on first, then all the other stuff. You could use ground turkey, real cheese & sour cream if you don't want it to be vegan. Cilantro, Jicama, Red Grape Salad 1/2 large jicama, peeled, thinly sliced (about 1 1/2 cups) This salad should chill for at least a half hour. We had a lot left over and it was even better the next day. |

Veteran 446 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED I would play along with the weight game but I really dont want to lose anymore weight until late summer or fall. I will try recipes though. As far as Super Bowl food...I think we are smoking a pork butt on the green egg. I have a sister that is getting into tris and she asked me to help her find a bike but she lives in Mississippi and I live in Georgia. I told her to go to a bike store and ask them to let her know what size would recommend. They told her extra small and tried to sell her a $3500 bike. Anyway, does anyone know for sizes per height (ballpark estimate), she is 5'4". |

Wrench science has an excellent online fit system that will get you real close (if not spot on) for a bike size. Click "Fit System". You have to register but it will save your measurements for you. And pork butt on a Big Green Egg sounds great! I'll be headed to Jay's for the Super Bowl, I think he'd picking up some BBQ and we'll have the usual other snacks. Jay and his wife always have a good spread, most of it relatively healthy, at least compared to what I would be eating otherwise |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Hi, all! I got in 2 hours on the trainer this morning. Rearranged schedule because of travel plans. Heading to my parents' house to celebrate Conrad's and Frederick's birthdays. Recovery day tomorrow, and I'm hoping my mom will suggest I sleep in while she gets up with the kids I won't be around until Sunday. Enjoy the weekend, friends. Happy training!!!! |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Morning! Still have the crud today, but feeling about 50% better. I have a swim later today (or tomorrow morning if I work late again), and an easy trainer ride. Tomorrow is an easy ride and run, followed by......Defensive Drive school. Yep, I'll be sitting in a class for 6 hours - boo! Only reason is because I got a speeding ticket (Going 16 over the speed limit - which is a bunch of BS, I was not speeding, it's a booby trap scam around here.) and even though I wanted to fight it, I knew I'd never win. So, I agreed to traffic school for the ticket to be dropped. Not happy about it, but don't want my insurance to go up. Sunday is an 11.5 mile trail run. Should be interesting with it raining tomorrow. Mud mud mud! |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Ok for those not comfortable with giving actual weight, you can just submit your goal of amount you want to lose then everyone just submits lbs lost each week to 1 decimal point. I also think its a great idea to submit awesome recipes. I personally could use some that are quick and easy. I hate cooking and I only cook for one, so even less exciting. If we are even able to find healthy desserts or snacks all the better to keep everyone on the healthy wagon. |

Extreme Veteran 863 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED With all the talk about diet and nutrition, I have a question for you. I started a strength training program 10 weeks ago that called for no cardio for 4 weeks. I stuck to that for the most part except for 2 prescheduled 5K's. I was eating clean already so no real change to diet. During that 4 weeks with virtually no cardio, I dropped 8 pounds like it was nothing. After the 4 weeks I started back with moderate cardio and my weight has been creeping up since with no change in diet. All last year, while training for the tri's and HM's my weight was pretty stable and I couldn't lose anything even at my most productive weeks, even though I always want to lose 5 pounds. So, what is it about cardio that seems to keep the weight on? I log my food at myfitnesspal.com (Scott, anyone?)and I would love for someone to look at my food diary and tell me where I am going wrong. I try to eat at 40% carbs/40% protein/20% fat. Some days are better than others. Any thoughts? |
