Watching a great game 2 of the Stanley cup final.  3rd period, 1-1.  I just finished my first beer of 2 this evening.  Thor, you saved my bacon with that little gemstone of advice to keep em on the shelf warm and they won't be a temptation.

David, I'm drinking  a mirror pond pale ale from deschutes.  If you get a chance this summer to try their pale ale, and their IPA, I'd like to hear your feedback coming from one who has a taste for these kinds of things.

Weighed in at noon today and was 178.8, but it was after a hard sprint, so I'm hoping for good things on Wednesday.

I'd love to be watching hockey - but my tv is on the fritz... so I settled for a trip to the bookstore and a tri magazine (Lava magazine - overpriced and not interesting unless you have a man crush on Lance Armstrong).

I'd also love to be drinking beer - but I had my fill tonight at dinner.  We have a good brew pub out here called John Harvards and their dunkle tonight was outstanding!  I hope to be able to get my hands on some deschutes this summer.  It will be a long drive but I'm trying to convince my wife that it would be worth it...

I hit 188 after my run this morning.  I've been tracking my sweat rate and if I've figured it correctly, I should be around 189.5 with a few days to go before the official weigh-in.  The sweat rate thing - btw - is crazy.  There have been times the last few months when I've gotten really light headed and now I understand why.  On long rides of 3 hours or more - the most I was drinking was 40 oz... but I was sweating at a rate of 24 oz and hour... No wonder I ran out of steam...  Have you guys ever checked because I'd love to know what normal is...

There were times as a wrestler that I would lose 5-6 pounds of water in a 1.5 hr. practice.

Good to see the "2 beer in the fridge" worked!

You are lucky bastards to have cheap beer. Up here it is taxed to death! Of course I would probably be a raging alcoholic if it was cheap like borscht! Smile

They tax booze in MA - 8% or something like that + the bottle deposit.  What are the taxes up there?

Sad to say - I pay too much for beer as it is... I don't think a couple of bucks would slow me down.

Here in WA, normal sales tax is 8.6%, fairly high comparing the rest of the country, beer is a little higher, and now liquer has been taken out of the liquer store (Yeah for voters) but the state figured how to combat this and it is a whopping 20.5% on liquer (WTH right).

Apparently in Alberta it is called a mark up, not a tax, ha. Looks like the provincial markup on a national brewer is 1 buck a litre, on smaller brewers it goes down to 20 cents.

Not sure of the federal tax on booze, well there is the 5 percent gst, which even taxes the markup. God help us all.

my thing... I'm a democrat and I don't mind paying my fair share in taxes... but what sends me over the edge is how booze is taxed to provide a lot of money for the state coffers but people turn their noses down at us because we're drinkers... As I see it, I'm fulfilling my civic responsibility by drinking beer.  I deserve a medal or something...

Qua17 - 2012-06-05 8:52 PM Weigh in day tomorrow... My prediction --> it's not gonna be pretty!

189 - 2 LBS lost

I'm not sure this weight is accurate but I'll take it!  Goal for next 17 days 5 pounds, which will drop my BMI from over weight to normal weight.

Already thinking about the beers I'm gonna drink to celebrate!

Nice work David

I'm at 179.9.  Past the backslide pounds and into positive weight loss.  Only had 4 beverages in the last 10 days.  I'm Jones'n over here!

Kevin - Outstanding!  So glad to hear that your new BPCP (Barley Pops Control Plan) is working.  I will be sure to let Deschutes know that they will need to decrease production!

Kudos for the weight loss.  You're getting pretty close to your goal.  I wonder what kind of beer we should get with those gift cards from Thor and Darren...

Finally - noticed you hit 500 posts - a real accomplishment considering our spring mentor group.

Two things -

1) Holy crap am I tired!  With the end of school approaching, its been a real marathon at work.  I know teachers get spoiled during the summer - but we honestly do more work in the last 2-3 weeks of school than we probably do between September and Thanksgiving.  Plus the kids are so done... Added onto that is the fact that even though I'm in the middle of a "rest" week, I don't feel any real energy.  I've been getting the workouts in (about 60% of my normal effort and time) but I feel like I'm doing it in a large pool of goo...

2) I had to cancel my OLY I had planned in September (the Lobsterman in ME - check in out on line... According to a bunch of magazines, its one of the coolest tris in the US probably because they serve you a fresh lobster and a cold beer at the finish line).  The gapping hole in my schedule caused me to flirt with the idea of signing up for a HIM again.  I think all of us who are still posting in this forum are driven to accomplish challenging goals - whether its Kevin's Kona or Bust or Darren with his "I'm going out for a short run across Canada" mentality or Thor with his "Guys we've only been playing hockey for three hours... We're just getting started" .  I've got the same drive and the idea of doing a HIM seems like something that would really push me.  But I've decided not to go long so I can focus on my Century in August.  Iinstead I will either sign up for an OLY to see how much progress I've made since July or I might sign up for the Sprint I last did in 2009 to see just how far I've come since then.

I'm not struggling here - in fact the decision to not do a HIM this year is the right decision.  It means I will get to focus on my goal to do a challenging century and with 115 miles and 4000 feet of total elevation gain I'm gonna need that focus.  I just want to make a commitment.  So, for the record: I will do an HIM in 2012.  I tell my wife this and she says "that's great dear" but she just doesn't quite get it... but I imagine that you guys will and you'll also be quick to give me crap if I don't.

First off, I empathise with the last two weeks of school thing.  I have a meeting before and after school every day next week with parents and schools sending their "naughty" kids to our BI program.  That and Grad school starting up again for the summer, and working around my wifes Tues, Thur, Sat morning workout schedule, and etc, etc, etc.  You guys get the point.

Secondly, I aplaud your training plan.  115 miles on a bike, your gonna need a power chair to wheel your a$$ around after that ride. Laughing  HIM in 2012,  Good, that'll set you up with me to do our first full IM in 2013!  Keep at it David, loving the focus.

I'm calling all the brewery's in MI and telling them to look out for David, It's almost summer vacation, there gonna have to up stock the shelves.Smile

I have always been quick to say it is the journey not the destination that matters here. Better to take your time and stick around rather than burn yourself out reaching a goal.

David: So, HIM is set for 2013 or 2012? Either way, you will get there one way or another!

It is funny how some people I talk to say"Oh you aren't doing a full one" when I am doing a sprint or an Oly. I am a few years away from a HIM or IM. I just don't have the time to train properly for one.

I here you on the energy...some weeks it just isn't there. I wish I could have gotten into the race this weekend to get some jump in my step...

As for the century ride, you are crazy man! Laughing Any activity that requires me to apply butt butter or any other brand name is not for me...

PS:I can give you some websites for Canadian liquor stores that are in Alberta so you can purchase while your dollar is more then ours...save you some money in August, especially with all the holiday beer you will be drinking.... :-)

Kevin:Holy $hit, anytime you are getting up and the clock starts with a 3 is not a good thing...I would be one crabby bastard(more than usual) if I had to get up at that time. 4:45am is my limit!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Finally - noticed you hit 500 posts - a real accomplishment considering our spring mentor group.

um, yeah, gift cards.

So 2 things:

1. I fell victim to the allure of a tasty beer on Tuesday. My wife came home with two 6 packs of tasty beers. Split one of the st. ambrose stouts with her http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/194/2704. So, guess I am back off the wagon, FINALLY.

2. Then last night we hit the fatburger for a big feed, including a litre or two of tasty soda.

Oh when we fall. Back on the straight and narrow, as far as soda and fatburgers go (think I am back to having the odd drink).

I love a good Fatburger...unfortunately I looked at the Fatburger nutrition page.... Extra run/bike before I go there! Smile

So when I first read your entries about fatburger - I laughed and thought "Is there really a place called Fatburger?" So I looked it up on the web and discovered - sure enough - those canuks have a place called fatburger..." which made me chuckle.  But then I actually checked out the sight and started drooling.  I guess I know where my fam will be eating this summer!

Thanks for all the support.  I need it and appreciate it!  So, yes - HIM in '12 and IM in '13.  I'd say we should all run them together but the scene at the start line might look like something from The Hangover...

Darren - how about this for motivation: Buy the gift cards now and tape them to your fridge.  On the left side - you could tape a picture of Kevin and me (since I haven't uploaded one yet - you could put up a picture of the guy you hate the most).  That should quell your desire to eat anything.  Then on the right side, you could tape a picture of the Fat Burger logo.  Its a simple choice: buy a couple of six packs for some hosers or treat yourself to "The Last Great Hamburger Stand."  That, my friend, is a simple choice.

Question - what is a BI program?  Is that what y'all call a behavior intervention program?  I don't think I've ever asked you what you teach?  If your teaching kids with behavioral issues - I don't blame you for having an extra beer every now and then!

I'm gonna need something to help me get around but not because of all the miliage.  Remember, the race ends at Harpoon Brewery... Wink

I'm calling all the brewery's in MI and telling them to look out for David, It's almost summer vacation, there gonna have to up stock the shelves.Smile

Now this is the best idea I've heard all day!

Speaking of which - I'll be driving through Eastern Canada in a couple of weeks when we head to the mid-west and I plan on stopping at a couple of liquor stores.  Any Canadian Beer I should keep an eye out for?

Morning! I'm feeling the need to brag. When I started this journey in November, I was wearing size 42 pants. Today I walked into a store to try on some shorts and discovered that 34s are too loose. So I tried on a pair of 32s which fit! They were tight but they fit. Haven't worn 32s since high school!

Morning All - Proud to report that I biked to work this morning!  Finally!  I've been trying to make it happen for the past month and I can finally cross it off my list.  It was a gorgeous morning with temps a little on the chilly side as I rode down my driveway.  So glad I did it.

Now, I just need to make it a habit...

Well finally back in internet land. Was away camping since Thursday...no internet, no running, no cycling, just eating and drinking beer by the fire while it was cold and rainy! Brought my wetsuit to try for a lake swim but...see above.

David, nice job on the pants. Make sure you keep a pair of old ones for comparison. Last Thurs. I threw in a pair of dress pants to take to the gym...they were an old pair of 40's, lucky I had a belt.

Nice job on the bike this morning! I was on the bike too...on the trainer of course...

Look up Unibroue beers out of Quebec...I think you will like them.

Going to try keep up the training this week although a little more difficult with my daughter out of preschool now. My lunch time swims my be disappearing.

Lastly, the big 45th birthday in 2 days...In waaay better shape then I was 10 years ago!
