Looks a little stormy this morning and almost chilly, but tomorrow is looking clear and high of 81. Can’t really ask for better!

Go Gretchen!

Currently about 6 miles into the run.

Looks like a bit slower swim than last year, but an hour faster ride. Smashing it.

Week 2 70.3 training in the books. Very happy with my efforts, best training week since January last year.

Swim, x2, 1,500m, 40 minutes
Bike, x4, (all zwift) 4hr 30min
Run, x3, 2hr 55min.

My work travel for this week has been rescheduled so at home all week, but likely away quite a bit next. So I'm rearranging the training plan slightly, doing a 3rd build week this week and moving my cutback week to when I'm away.

Looking forwards to another good solid week. The plan is for 2 swims, 4 rides and 3 runs again.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

And go Gretchen, currently about 10 miles into the run, looking strong.

I’ll write a race report later (I still have race brain), but wanted to check in.

I had an amazing race, with a PR by 1:41:00. Turns out all that hard work really does pay off! Defended my nation championship (Athena 40+) too. I’m over the moon with these results.

Thanks everyone for your support along the way! Now…I’m off to appreciate some of the local brew at one (or more) of the various pubs I’ve seen seeing around town. Can’t disgrace our group’s good name!!

Congratulations Gretchen, you should be very proud of yourself.

Enjoy the 'post race refueling' it was well earned.

Guess I have a time target for IMNZ in march now

Started the week with a full rest day Monday. This is going to me my 3rd build week in a row, so I figure at least 1 day of nothing is a good idea.

Up at dark o-clock this morning for a 60 min run, with 3x3' cruise intervals. Not a particularly challenging interval set. But I'm trying to be conservative with the run workouts as I rebuild some consistency after June/Julys disaster.

Easy, Z2 bike on zwift tonight.

Tuesday evenings Z2 zwift turned into a 30 minute sweet spot session.
Wednesday was an early morning swim, a bit shorter than I had planned, but I was delayed trying to leave the house by a very awake 2 year old. Still, actually felt like I could swim this time. So that was better than last week.
Wednesday evening was 60 minutes Z1/bottom of Z2 spin on zwift.

Today, a sleep in this morning and an hour easy run on the treadmill this evening.

So far, the week is ticking along pretty much as planned

Good work Andrew!
Gretchen, where’s that race report?

Another past Nat bit the dust last night, 3 minutes better than last year at Kalmar’s 4-18-4, as they call it. Fun race on the Wednesday before the Ironman on Saturday.
Race report to follow.

Found out on Tuesday that my last race of the season, a sprint, was cancelled due to lack of people signed on.

Very disappointing.

So my last race will be the oly on my home turf next week. Well, my last tri, I still have a 10k in September.

Nice work, 2023 Nat!!!

OK, Gretchen.  It's now Thursday...RR please???

@Andrew...looks like you're getting into a groove.  Nice work.

We've been in Cancun all week and it has been HOT HOT HOT.  Got in one swim of about 1000 yards, two four-mile runs, and a couple of short rides on the spin bike at the gym in between downing mucho Cervecas Sol y Dos Equis.

Alright...alright...here's yer race report...

https://saluki-my.sharepoint.com/:u:/g/personal/gdabbs_siu_edu/EZtjF...

and yes...it is 15 pages long, which is why it takes so damn long to write!

Yesterday I went to masters and swam a slow 1500yds with them. It was a bad idea--I was spent afterwards. I was forced to sit on my patio and drink a growler of my favorite beer (a local brew called 17th St smoked ale) and write this race report. The beer might explain some of the parts of the race report. :D

Wow Gretchen, setting the standard for Ironman times, and race reports Great job on both.

It reads like you had a really well run race, a few issues as expected when you go long, but for the bulk of it it looks like you had a plan, and executed it well. Must be a fantastic feeling in those last few miles knowing not only you're going to finish, but you're going to get a massive PB and a category win.

Both times I've done a full, I've had horrible blisters in same place as yours, from the run. If you figure out the cure, please let me know before March.

Great RR Gretchen! Mike’s Oly report was quite long, this is very long and mine are usually very short. I guess the length of the report is proportional to the length of the race…

Like every good novel, it leaves you wanting more. We know how the hero’s story ends but we are left in the dark about the fate of the ‘I need a poop lady” and the “I squeezed everything into one bottle guy”. I hope it went well for both of them

Looks like you had fun. Congrats on retaining the title but particularly on that huge PR! Well done!

Good morning, all.  Happy Friday.

@Gretchen - I can't read but the first page of the novel (I don't have access to a Mac)...can you export it to PDF on your sharepoint site?

https://saluki-my.sharepoint.com/:u:/g/personal/gdabbs_siu_edu/EZtjF...

A pdf version. I just converted to a Mac, so I wasn't even thinking about it not working. My wife and mom were able to read it, so I figured it must work. Didn't think about that fact that they both read it on an iPad.

@Nat--I inquired on the MiTi Facebook group page about the pooping lady. She replied! Her race went well. We must have seeded ourselves appropriately, because she said she was in T1 change tent with me (I don't remember her in there, but everyone looks different once you take off the goggles, swim cap, and wetsuit!).

2000yds in the pool today. Felt better than Wednesday. Things are getting back to normal and I was thinking about maybe a short run tomorrow to test out the body. Of course, at some point I also need to get my cyclocross bike out and make sure the tires haven't dry rotted. I'm doing a gravel tri and a gravel bike race at the end of September. I suppose it might be nice if I remembered how that bike works--shifting, brakes, etc.

Thank you, so she didn’t poop in her wetsuit I guess

Sounds like you are recovering nicely, only 5 days after the race, how are the blisters?

So one week to go until my oly (and sadly last race of the season).

Starting to work on a plan. Goal is to go under 3 hours but anything under 3:06:16 (2021 Nat’s time) will count as a win.

This weekend I will swim bike and run the course, started today with the swim. Did it it 34:49 minutes on my own.
2021 Nat managed it in 33:40 so my time goal will be the same for this year, as I sadly have not improved.

Transitions will be much faster this year as I did have a picnic last time. I should be about 2 minutes faster than 2021.

Based on my times in shorter races this year, I am hoping to gain 5 minutes on bike+run this year. Let’s see what the practice bike tomorrow and practice run on Sunday will show.

So far there are only one other woman signed on for the Oly. I am off to do some research on her (unlike Gretchen I am allowed Google and Facebook). Hopefully there will be more come race day though, the more the merrier.

Have a great weekend!

Great RR, Nat! Sounds like you had a solid performance. I particularly like the part where the water temp is listed at -8c (17f). I’d expect a slightly faster swim in those conditions, seeing as how it could be more of a run… :D
