Have you tried treating him while you are on it...like just sit on it to start with and praise him and give him what ever treat you want...and then get off.  Then next time sit on it and pedal a couple of times..give him a cookie before he exhibits the unwanted behavior...and then get off...build up slowly so that he associates you being on the bike with good things.

This gonna sound weird too but...have you praised the bike in front of him?  Sometimes that seems to help with objects that have spooked mine....like the vacuum....anyway....teach him to take cookies off your saddle....try to make it a game.  Even tho he's old he can still learn...dogs are pretty flexible...unless you have an Italian Greyhound.....they can not learn to pee outside...

Hope that helps
Carole

Yea!! glad you're up and walking briskly...running can't be that far behind, you know.

Thanks to everyone who wished me well and sent me good vibes and inspires on my first HIM. What a fantastic experience. Was it hard? Yes. Would I do it again? Yes, in a heartbeat (okay maybe longer than that). I'll catch up on the manatee posts, but wanted to give you the link to my RR -- finally done. We travelled some after the race and drove down the coast, took in some sights. Just got home last night. AGain, thanks to the fabulous Manatees -- YOU ROCK!!

Hi Manatees!

Back from my trip to the beach with my sister and her extended family. We had a good time but spent too much time sitting around and eating all the stuff you're not supposed to. I did get a couple of low key bike rides and a run in. I'm feeling better and looking forward to getting a little more consistant in my training. Since I'm not doing the HIM later this month (good decision), I signed up for Eagleman for June/2010!

TR - I read your post about your dog. I haven't had a dog for a long time but just based on my limited tri experience it might be bike envy. If he doesn't get to ride the cool tri-bike he doesn't want you to either.

Beth - Glad to hear your recovery is continueing.

Yanti - You're in my prayers.

Haha .. I like that - the dog is just jealous. Funny.

I'm happy to report that things are settling down on the dog front ... he's still not happy that I'm hopping on the trainer, but I went out and bought him a good tug-toy and if I use that to distract him the first 10-15 min or so, he pretty much then just ignores me for the next 45. Phew.

Tomorrow's my birthday. I'm going to be 34. I'm really looking forward to my birthday ... 33 was such a horrible year, for some reason I believe that when I turn 34 some kind of metaphysical switch will be flipped and life will immediately improve. ;-)

Tonight I'm going to a colleague's business function (she made me promise to go because she doesn't want to be there herself, but there will be good food and wine) ... and tomorrow a friend is taking me out for dinner and then to see GI JOE! ... I love movies filled with hot men, fast cars, and explosions. It'll be awesome.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

My deepest thanks to all of you who posted/inspired/sent good thoughts.

This is a group that truly humbles and inspires me.

I am going through a fairly literal hell, and it's every day, and pretty relentless.

But in each of your posts, sharing what you have been through past and present, and the wonderful triumphs that you work so hard for in your own lives ... these, I cling to, and I can't tell you how much they strengthen me.

And YAY for darling Bethie Love's walk!!!

Thought you guys might want to check out our San Diego trip photos.  I am too lazy to load them here at BT so HERE is a link to the ones I put on Facebook.

Yanti - so good to see you around!   Prayers and hugs for you!
