Thanks ken its been an awesome couple days.  Just got back from the athletes dinner which was pretty cool.  Matt Long came and spoke which was awesome to hear him talk and I get chills every time I see him cross the line in 2009.  One day left and then its go time

Between the slow airport internet and Ironmanlive having issues I haven't been able to get an update on how Jon's swim went yet.

I am traveling today to the west coast, hoping to get some sort of run in when I get there.  Unfortunately right now the flight is delayed due to Chicago weather.

Any one else have any training plans today?

Do you know Jon's race #? I will look up his splits and post it.  I know Ironman Live is having its issues.

He had a good bike at 7 hours, but I was getting nervous that there were nothing about him for the run. Looks like ironmanlive isn't updating, so hopefully he is having a good run, too. Wish the stupid site would update!

Hey guys I am alive and well from the waist up any how.  Swim was good, first loop of the bike was good then the cramps started.  Not bad on the bike it really hit on the run.  I tried running the first 5 or so miles by my legs were in agony and I was actually walking quicker.  It got to the point where after 10 steps both hamstrings would cramp and I would have to hobble.  I think my problem was I focused so much on hydration the week before I neglected salt intake.  Wish I could have ran because I could have broke 14 hours.  Anyhow enough with the whining,  Yesterday was AWESOME, I had the time of my life.  That is why I decided to walk, for the whole race my head was in a good place and I was joking with spectators and volunteers.  If I kept running I would have lost that so I did what I thought was best and continued to have fun (lots of high fives and pumping up the crowd).  I will write a formal race report this week, but I leave you with my thoughts of the morning

1. Bizarre tan/burn lines are irritating

2. I am really wondering why a toilet/bed/chair have to be soo low its a long way down and up hahaha

Hey John, that's what it's about, not quitting, right?

Awesome job - I look to you for inspiration in my race that comes in 4 weeks time.

You should be very proud!

I agree... That's what it's all about! I think you did a great job given the circumstances and it's fantastic that you turned it around and completley enjoyed what you did! CONGRATS IRONMAN!

I just read this great article.  Trying to get in the right mindset for race day.  Did a brick this past saturday.  I showed up at the site, ready to go and the heavens opened up.  Lightning and thunder drove most of the group home, but I stuck around and ran around the lake.  Most of the course was under cover of trees, and I figured it was safer than riding out on the open road in the storm.  The rain was actually cooling and I was able to run farther than usual.

By the time I finished running, the storm had passed and I proceeded with the bike.  It kicked my butt!  This weekend I've been nursing some sore muscles, but after a good swim this morning, I'm starting to feel alright.  It feels good to be strong enough to do this.

I'm looking forward to race day, it's getting closer!

Head Over Heals - Mental Floss for Endurance Athletes
When we get ready to train or race, we have a pretty fixed set of thoughts. We are unaware of how they affect our racing.

"I have known and worked with many of the world’s greatest distance athletes, and what sets them apart from the rest of us is not so much their physical attributes, but their utter refusal to quit. This is clearly born of supreme mental toughness whether that is trained or natural.

Go out there and think like a winner."

Well done getting out there and training even though the weather was less than perfect! I highlighted that one sentence because I couldn't agree more; it really does feel good.

The mental aspect of training and racing is very important. You have to have that mental toughness. Just look at Jon's race yesterday. A lot of people wouldn't understand why or how he kept going, but he didn't stop, and now he is an ironman.

I finally got around to posting my Musselman RR, if anyone wants to take a look. I  have 2 more races scheduled for this year, an oly in August and a weird multi stage race with 1 bike leg, 3 swim legs, and 4 runs in September. Now I am thinking of doing another HIM in October. It's a new WTC race in the Poconos and only about an hour from my home. Do you think I'm crazy?

Way too busy this summer it seems.  Traveling today from Reno to Southern Cal for a few days in that office.  Good news is I know a lot of different run routes there that are pretty easy to do before daylight and being an east coaster on west coast time I have plent of oportunity to get some nice running in.

Today however, who knows.  Depends on what the day brings, but maybe a set of mile repeats on the hotel tready after I leave the office.

Train well folks!
