Morning! I'm feeling the need to brag. When I started this journey in November, I was wearing size 42 pants. Today I walked into a store to try on some shorts and discovered that 34s are too loose. So I tried on a pair of 32s which fit! They were tight but they fit. Haven't worn 32s since high school! Just want to thank y'all for the support! Really-thanks!

WOW, that is awesome. So does that mean we can expect an "after" picture?

Morning All - Proud to report that I biked to work this morning!  Finally!  I've been trying to make it happen for the past month and I can finally cross it off my list.  It was a gorgeous morning with temps a little on the chilly side as I rode down my driveway.  So glad I did it.

Now, I just need to make it a habit...

how far is the ride? Do it enough and you will start hating the car and that will be enough motivation to get you out the door in the morning.

I reached a new level last week, I managed do ride to work 5 days. Darn near 300km. I was dead by the end of it all.

Well finally back in internet land. Was away camping since Thursday...no internet, no running, no cycling, just eating and drinking beer by the fire while it was cold and rainy! Brought my wetsuit to try for a lake swim but...see above.

David, nice job on the pants. Make sure you keep a pair of old ones for comparison. Last Thurs. I threw in a pair of dress pants to take to the gym...they were an old pair of 40's, lucky I had a belt.

Nice job on the bike this morning! I was on the bike too...on the trainer of course...

Look up Unibroue beers out of Quebec...I think you will like them.

Going to try keep up the training this week although a little more difficult with my daughter out of preschool now. My lunch time swims my be disappearing.

Lastly, the big 45th birthday in 2 days...In waaay better shape then I was 10 years ago!

45?  Really?  I look at your picture and you look like you're in your early 30's.  I guess that's canada for you eh?  So laid back...  What do you have planned for the big day.

I hear you about getting the workouts in now that the kids are home.  Luckily - we have a baby sitter for our youngest... but we won't have her all summer!

OK - I need to make that a priority... My biggest problem is that I don't have any clue how to resize them so they can be uploaded.  If you know a way - let me know.  I will have my wife take a few good ones and then I will post them.

The before and after ones will look like Thors - but I think he lost more.  How much did you lose in total Thor?

Darren - how is the new bike treating you?

HOLY CRA% - 300K  That is incredible.  I just did 65 and I'm bushed.  But doing it 5 days a week is a pretty cool goal - right now that is more a month and a half of riding.  You are a stud!

As you can imagine from last week, the new bike is treating me super well. Finally got the pedals off my other bike. Just need to put them on the new one. I'll be flying for sure then. So far dropped my commute by a good 5 minutes or so, and that includes the detours due to the flooding on the pathways. Super sweet.

Stellar Job Kevin!  Way to get back on track and move closer to your goal.  Just goes to show that while we Americans living in the land of the super sized big mac - we can still lose the weight when we have to.

You can hear crickets in this forum right now.  Any updates for the land of the great white north?

Weighed in this morning at 187.2 -  but that was after the end of year faculty part the night before.  Just for the record... I stuck to my 2 beer limit ala Kevin.  So I think my goal of hitting 184 by June 23 is in reach.  Really depends on sticking to the plan and not diving into a bowl of ice cream of a keg of beer to celebrate the end of the year...

Today I had my back looked at by my doctor.  The doc thinks I might have popped a disc so I'm getting an MRI this saturday.  Weight was down from the last appointment but the blood pressure was higher.  Yes higher than last time.  In february it was 230 over 88 and today is was 238 over 88.  WTF!

On a brighter note - my doc does tri and we were talking and he tells me he was doing an oly. in the area as his fathers day present amd encouraged me to join. I seriously considered it but declined because I don't have the needed wet suit or the 80 bucks for the race fee.  But I was pumped knowing that I COULD have done it... Getting there.

Hope you are all happy and well!

Everything on track weight wise, although a huge plate of nachos last night could have derailed my efforts. Although I did only have one pint...an Oaked IPA that was superb. It was on tap at Brewster`s brewpub. (birthday supper out

My son bought me a water bottle that has a inner compartment for gels...he was excited. Also picked up a long sleeve Yellowman cycling shirt that is pretty cool. Bought myself some earplugs, hoping this will remedy my dizzyness coming out of the OWS. I imagine there will be more this weekend at my parents house.

I have a Rugby 40th anniversary party Friday and Saturday. Will probably only go to the pig roast and day of activities Saturday. Going to really try hard to get in a long bike ride Saturday morning weather permitting!

Make sure everyone holds me accountable for my long ride Saturday!

Cash in your empties and you can buy the wetsuit and the race entry fee...Laughing

Sure hope your back is okay! On the positive side of things, you  could become a swimming machine while your back recovers.

As for your blood pressure, it could have been a one off. Stay the course on the weight loss and exercise and you will see results! I was borderline high blood pressure before I lost weight and exercised. Now I am A-okay!

Thanks!  I too hope it was just a blip!  Instead of spending more money on registration and a wet suit, I decided to go for a a long ride on fathers day so I can go to my favorite wings place to watch NASCAR!  Doesn't get much better!

Breaking News... Heidi (my wife - who has lost 35 pounds but who has been so resistant to all the tri sports) just got finished reading an article in Shape magazine.  She is now thinking of buying a road bike and signing up for a tril

Hmmm... how to handle this... might have to take her out to dinner and order her a few icy cold beverages... Then I just might have to stop to pick up some "stuff" for my father's day ride.  Oh and as long as we are there...

Glad you guys are doing well. My resurgence into drinking has not been successful. 2 drinks on Friday. 2 drinks on Saturday. 3 drinks on Sunday. And the diet has gone too. Chicken wings on Friday. Nachos and eggs benny for brunch, (at brewsters where I too enjoyed the Oaked IPA), on Saturday. And Sunday, well not so bad Sunday, and I did have a nice nip of scotch that we got my dad for father's day. Not sure what it was called but it was a limited reserve something that the liquor store bought the whole cask of, smooth.

I gotta figure this diet stuff out. May have to hop back on the wagon until August otherwise I am going to be out 60 bucks.

Found a scale on Saturday. 190 lbs. ahhhhhhhhh, at least it hasnt gone up.

Kevin and DH - First off -you've got plenty of time! There are 7 weeks until August 6.  If you can lose a little more than 1 and 1/2 pounds - you guys will be in the clear.  Second - I've been watching your logs and my question is - how can you not be losing weight??? Darren - you rode more last week than I have all month and Kevin - you;re training for a HIM.  The exercise should give you the freedom to have a beer or two.  Just keep track of those calories and make good decisions.

Gentlemen - I'm gonna pose this question to our other mentor group - but I wanted to get DH's take as well...  Yesterday, on my long ride, I wore bike shoes for the first time. A pair of decent middle of the line Specialized bike shoes... And my feet hurt so bad I could hardly walk when I got off the bike. Plus, each time I pedaled, I felt the same type of pain on the outside of my right foot that felt just like PF.  Not good.  Have you ever felt this and do you think it will do away the more I ride?

I have no experience in bike shoes as I still, and always will now, have the cages on my mid 80's road bike.  It's pretty cherry.  I would think it has to do with fit, or possibly how shoe clips on and pulls foot as you pedal?  But, I have never gotten foot pain on ride, so I cannot offer any advice except maybe to drink afterwards to dull the pain a little.Wink  It seems libral amounts of alcohol can cure most pains temporarily.

You should throw out an email to all your buddies that you are looking for a roadbike/tri bike. I did and ended up with my 14 yr old Carbon trek. Not the best gearing for hills but still pretty nice. I call it my Barney bike as it is a lovely purple!

David, not sure what to say on the shoes. I defer to the cycle master Darren for that question!

The PF pain sounds like some flexibility or strengthening issue. But not sure it isn't caused by the shoes. I have a theory that any muscle pain caused by shoes is pointing out weaknesses in your feet and your feet therefor must be strengthened. Of course more reasonable people just go and buy shoes that don't hurt. And bike shoes are different than running shoes. I think there is far less load on your feet on a bike than on your feet when you run.

Not sure what you mean by your feet hurting when you get off the bike. After a long ride my feet always hurt. Sometimes they go numb. I think part of it can be helped by flexing your ankle as you ride as opposed to leaving it in one plane. Concentrate on circles instead of pistons will help that.

Also, these exercises should help.

http://foothealth.about.com/od/exercisefeet/ss/FootExercises.htm but man they take up time to do.

But, your feet shouldn't hurt that much. I would get back to the store, put your bike on a trainer, and try out all the shoes.
