Fred D - 2012-02-03 12:32 PM

I swam with an elite triathlete today, and while I couldn't keep up I did swim much faster and harder than I usually do.

My left elbow seems to drop a bit(I breath to the right only)

Any tips on elbow drop??

On stroke recovery:

Do thumb touch to hip, elbow up (chicken wing) and finger tip drag to entry.

On entry:

Entry water, to the catch phase sooner.

EDIT

I just read what Chris wrote and thing “Over the Barrel” helps some as long as fingertips stay lower than the elbow and enter first.

Fred - funny you asked that question - I've been working on the left side pull as well.. adding to what Chris said ...another thought (IMHO) about keeping that elbow high is trying to keep the humerus bone parallel to ground or top of water while barrel pulling.. hope that makes sense.. I've also used the one arm pull drill with a board.

Board on right hand and pulling with left arm.

Here is an online calculator, if you want to see where you stand

Fred D - 2012-02-03 1:12 PM Oh and any over/under bets on the crossfit thread before it gets pulled?

Dang it, I hate it when I am busy, must go read thread now...

Not much on my plate this weekend.  Short run on Sat, race on Sunday.

I know that BT is supposed to be a place for active discussion, but there should be a screen when you click "Start Thread" that says "Have you searched for this and read what is already posted? If no, give it a shot. If yes, and you still have a concern that wasn't fully addressed in other threads, please continue."

Hum, you know, that wouldn't be that hard.  Any support site I log technical issues on does that.  You type in your subject and a brief description and it brings up a page of possible matches to see if you can save everyone some time.

ETA: but of course what would Fred and Chris do?  The site probably would get pretty boring.

Kim, Chris and I would truly be bored lol.

Hey, how the heck did I get thrown in with that quack troublemaker?  I'm just an innocent.  We all know that Fred and bryan are the true instigators

Off to swim and run.  Hopefully the internet gold is still there when I get back.

P.S.  I will not shower before I get in the pool, I will not share a lane, I will not do flip turns, and I will run on the indoor track where the walkers are supposed to be while extolling the virtues of crossfit and 2 hours/week training for an ironman.  I will also complain about the resolutionists taking my parking spot and locker.  That should about cover it for now.

Snerk.

Looking like a couple hours on the trainer. The radar is showing a line of thunderstorms that should hit right around sunrise. Fire up Netflix!

What is your cold cutoff for riding? I'm very whimpy because I really don't have cold weather riding gear. Sadly, I won't go colder than 55. Really need to invest in warm stuff!

LOL. South Texas tends to make one a temperature whimp. I know most of the group would beg for the 50s at this point. Running is a whole different story though. 20s and teens don't bother me.

9 mile run and I am afraid it will have to be on a treadmill. The constant melting and freezing around here right now does not leave me trustful of the roads. Going to be a long mental battle this morning.

A nice easy 35 min run is all that is suppose to be on my schedule but sounds like I actually have no plans for the afternoon so as long as that holds out I might head out for an easy ride.  Need to wander off to packet pick up today and try and resist buying new shoes while there

Been away for the last 2 days so just catching up.

I got a 90 minute ride in this morning with 6x8' threshold intervals.  I raised my FTP 5 watts last week and these felt pretty good so happy with that.

I am hoping for a long trail run tomorrow since all the snow is gone and they should be firmed up after a cold night.  Missing the trails lately.

Kim:  Good luck tomorrow in the race and have some fun!

Predictions on the Super Bowl??  I could honestly care less who wins but I think the Pats are going to win.  I am looking forward to eating alot of food tomorrow .

In the spirit of the conversation on fasting before and during workouts I decided to do my run this morning on nothing but water. I broke down on the drive to Lifetime and did consume about 150 calories worth of a Hammer bar. But, at 220 pounds and looking at 1:35 on a treadmill I felt I at least needed a tiny something. Last meal was 14 hours before the run. I was actually able to make myself stay at a slower pace than normal, something I have trouble doing. End result was I did 9 miles in 1:35 and felt better than I have in awhile. Heart rate seemed high for my pace but I attribute that to still having some after effects from pneumonia. I was not hungry at all during the run and never felt anything close to bonking.

Hey do you do your LT intervals at 95% or 100%? I've been doing them at 95%, but there is an ongoing thread on slow twitch discussing this. My intervals felt relatively easy, which usually means I need to do them a bit harder lol.

I have been following that thread on ST as well.  I can tell you that I don't do them at 105% LOL.  I have always done them at 100%.  Recently since I started using TrainerRoad they will be variable between 95-100% based on the particular workout but I try to be closer to 100%.
