Think of it as a dysfunctional relationship. You want out of the dysfunction...but in so many ways it's what defines life. It's a crutch and a curse all at one time and you need to be able to hit the starting line without either.barqhead - 2008-10-10 11:51 AM QueenZipp - 2008-10-09 8:49 PM Yeah. Just read my Mooseman race report. There was LOTS of walking during that one, but no DNF
CAT, we all KNOW you can do the distances. wralk, it's okay. We've all had to walk at some point in a race. Even if you walk most of it this race will be a huge hurdle to cross mentally. Its funny Im not sure it the walking that stopping me... its some of the other mental baggage.. I have not done a race yet without some walking! there are a lot of 'dsyfunctional' thoughts AND relationships in my life... there is a HUGE amount of housekeeping that needs to happen!!! One of the MOST functional relationships I have is the one here with all of you and i am really really thankful for that!!! |

Very busy. Tired. This is all excellent. The dog stole and ate an entire jar of peanut butter and barfed all over the house and backyard even though she was smart enough to also steal and eat anti-nausea suppositories. I figure she just couldn't read the directions. |

Go up to one of them, be nice and help them layout their transition area. Calm their fears, give advice like you did as our mentor. You will not be hanging out by yourself for long! Triathletes come in all shapes and sizes. The skinny girls sink in the water and get blown around on the bike. As Friel says, "Train like a horse. On race day, horses don't walk around and say look at the size of the legs on that stud!" [ Wow, would there have been one around for me that day... I would have felt blessed. Thats why BT is so great... you can always get advice if you cant find it in person...

You got the swim and the bike. Just plan a nice little jog/walk goal. Maybe 2 minutes jogging, 2 minutes walking. If the foot or calf protests go to all walking. My husband walked the entire 5k portion of his first sprint tri. And he wasn't even DFL (but he's a strong cyclist). There is no shame in doing that. And it is so cool to hear them call out your name when you cross the finish. It might be just the thing you need to rekindle your tri passion. You can do a 2x each discilpine the week before. 2 swims, 2 bikes and 2 wralks. Have one of the bike and wralk workouts be a brick. That should give you a complete rest day. Take the complete rest day two days before the race. I know you can do it. I'm so excited about you doing it. Sign up!!! Yeah, I'm a little addicted to racing. I'm scared, excited and giddy about my race on Saturday. I call it my que sera sera race. I haven't done any bricks, I haven't raced since June, don't have much run mileage in me. But I'm so excited to get out there and do it. I'm gonna have a stupid smile the whole race. It's the doing it that is intoxicating. Thanks Pam, for sharing your wisdom and passion.
CAT, we all KNOW you can do the distances. wralk, it's okay. We've all had to walk at some point in a race. Even if you walk most of it this race will be a huge hurdle to cross mentally. Very very true.... and going to the race and hanging around by myself is another hurdle too. No worries - I just know Im going to feel like the fat girl at the party! Yes Im doing the mental thing again... Pam, you're so smart. You say everything we can't seem to put into words... |
