Bill -- good luck with your riding this weekend (and your possible run).  So ITB is all better?  Can you walk around the nursing home yet?

I have a 5k tomorrow, other than that and a nap I don't have too much planned. Probably some work around the house. This is our first weekend without a soccer game so it's a little weird. Next weekend when we have nothing planned will be WAY WEIRD!

Raking leaves in the rain does not sound like a good time. Make sure to enjoy a hot bath and some hot cocoa when you're done.

ummm... sounds like a good plan after raking!  Yeah!

Good luck on your 5k.  Funny how an uncrowded weekend can seem kind of empty and somehow wrong!  LOL

I have a fun run 3.5 mile coming up on Thanksgiving morning.  This will be my first "real" event, so it will be interesting to see how I react with people heading out at the same time but going so much faster than me.  Gotta remember to just run (jog) my own pace!  Smile

This is my thing, too. I'm not fast, I can just go. My goal is sub 30. I'm just going to have some fun and get a t-shirt. My HM running partner is running it as well. I'm going to run my race and not worry about what anybody else out there is doing.

AFTERNOON GHOULIES.

will stick around to catch up a bit.

but wanted to touch base.

got to the Y.  1 mile continuous swim ff. by 900 yard continuous swim.

ff. by a DISDAINFUL ST SESSION, though actually becoming a little less disdainfull the more i do it....

just like i blogged, that 2 mile continuous swim by the end of the year looks more and more attainable each and every swim.

what was cool....my 2nd half albeit shorter than 1 mile, was faster than my first half.

it appears, and this seems like across the tri disciplines, the longer i go, the 'better' i feel and the 'faster' i get [i think its more i 'settle in' get in a 'groove' and get more efficient, enter that zen space the longer i go]

good news as i contemplate a 1/2 IM.

wee hee for me!

HEY AMY.

how's it goin?

stacieb
Hey Stacie. It's going good--went with hubby to his post-op checkup this morning. He's definitely heading to Africa saturday (BOO, *hiss*). His collarbone is doing nicely, and he even said he'd wear his TED hose on the plane. At least on the way there. Back may be another story, though, LOL. He has 7 screws in the plate on the bone...plus one more to hold two fragments of bone together. Geesh. I am just glad it wasn't me. I look forward to Julie coming back--I was just thinking about her last night, thinking I should inspire her, and see how she's doing. Gotta run--I got all caught up but now it's time to go pick up the hoodlums from school. Laters!(((Gouhlies)))

HOLY BIONIC DEAR HUSBAND!  can he make it through security/metal detector w all the screws and plate??  the TED hose will be the 'least' of his worries.

how long will he be in Africa?  what part?  [sorry if you mentioned in an earlier post and it went over my head]

i have friends that were in WEST Africa, but there home now.  they loved it while they were there.

im glad JULIE is coming back too.  i missed our JULESY GHOULIE.

hope your hoodlums didnt keep you hopping too much this afternoon.

return to the VILLAGE as soon as your able.

SLOPPY GHOULIE KISSES.

mwah!
stacieb
he won't pass a metal detector test, LOL. It's atitanium plate. I don't know if he'll make it through security or not. Guess we'll find out soon. I meant to get a letter from his doc stating that he's got the plate/screws. I don't think it'll be much of an issue in the states...but who knows once you leave the areas where bribing state workers and customs officials is considered a BAD thing. Hubby is headed to the Congo. Or more specifically the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Apparently the fact that it's the safer of the 2 congo republics is supposed to make me feel more at ease. Heh. He'll be there for a week, gone from home about 10 days. Tomorrow I get to treat all of his clothes with a permethrin spray to keep away the mosquitoes. Then the next day he'll be gone. But you guys will help me keep my spirits up, right? pretty please with sugar on top?? It might take the entire Gouhlie Village to get me through this trip with my sanity intact.

have no fear AMY, I and the GHOULIES solemnly swear to HELP YOU KEEP YOUR SPIRITS UP while your DH is in the CONGO.  [sounds so 'mysterious'  in the CONGO]

the VILLAGE will most assuredly keep your sanity intact.  unless we completely drive you LOONEY w all our GHOULY SILLINESS AND SHENANIGANS, but im thinking thats a good LOONEY.

whatever you need.  were just a post away from helping you out.

GHOULIE LOVE!

Good morning Ghoulies!!!

We had parent teacher conferences yesterday. It is so nice to hear an unbiased party tell you that you have raised a good kid, and I got to hear that twice yesterday!

My son is a very smart boy, we've known this since he was about 18 months old. His teacher just went on and on about him. He's in fourth grade, and the kids are supposed to have jobs in the classroom. My son now does half of the jobs because the teacher doesn't have enough reliable kids to perform the tasks. He told us he's afraid he'll burn our son out, I told him that he was fine, the more you give him to do the more he thrives. His teacher probably told us 6 times that our son is such a deep thinker, that he has a challenge in the classroom just trying to come up with things for our son to do, he wants to challenge him so he doesn't get bored. My son had been tested for the gifted program last year, but we decided not to do it because he works better at his own pace. The administrators supported our decision and his teachers are aware so he generally is given alternative things to do in the classroom which has worked out well for the boy.

My daughter who is in first grade got raving reviews as well. She has some speech issues, which are being worked on, it does affect her reading some, but not enough that we need to be concerned. She reads at level, and her teacher expects her to move beyond this as her speech progresses, so no big deal. She excels at math and is the artistic one in the family. Every month a student from each class is chosen as the Path Kid, it's like a student of the month award. My son gets this every year by November. My daughter didn't get it in Kindergarten, and we didn't understand why. When the teacher was saying about what a joy it is to have her in the classroom, that she's everyone's friend, volunteers for everything, helps everyone and such I asked why she was never chosen as the Path Kid. The teacher said that she was chosen as the November Path Kid, my daughter just doesn't know this yet, and we're not telling her. The teacher has been teaching for 30 years and said you only get a kid like my daughter every 5 or 6 years. That was nice to hear.

So the kids are doing well and I'm happy. A friend of mine took her 2 kids and my 2 swimming last night while we were in conferences. I met them at the Y and because all 4 kids had good report cards I took them out for Pizza then.

you just go and CROW YOUR LITTLE HEART OUT, you uber duber super MOM.

wgraves7582 - 2009-11-13 7:25 AM Speaking of training - I think I have officially given up the elliptical for my bike again.  Went out again last night for about 2 hours and had a great time even though it gets quite cold once the sun sets!

I'll have to check the Disdain Rulebook but I don't think you are allowed to give up your disdain training for training you actually enjoy unless you want to prematurely admit defeat to Queen Stacie in the Disdain Challenge. I'm just sayin'.

Trust me Ann for the joy my bike brings to me I have no problem but I am at 8 sessions and she is at 1 and we still have some crap weather coming so I feel safe Queen will fall in behind me - you and KimC are killing it!

I have to get back on the elliptical. That can start on Sunday, my first ever 5k is tomorrow, so that is where my focus is now.

OH ANN.

theres nothing quite like your first.

i remember my first 5K like it was yesturday.  its become an annual race for me.  i did it for sh you know what and giggles now.

ceilidh - 2009-11-13 7:25 AM Morning team. My computer is acting up so I can't change pages or go up or down or .... I guess my mouse is dying. It being Italian and all it will be dramatic. I need to get my new computer up and running but I am such a wuss that I have no earthly idea of how to transfer all my data and settings etc to the new one.
Looks like there is a bunch of young ghoulies that are being raised right out there. I cannot wait to see the first-ever-5-k race report. How exciting. Uh... Stacie, Queen... you better get the strength going girl.. You are the QUEEN you know, you have responsibilities. You are being disdained!!!!
The Quintuplets were amazing. All with really distinctive personalities and their parents were (are) so calm and cool and patient. However, If I felt like it would be best to have my ovaries removed, just in case that could happen to me. AAAGGGGHHH. We saw them for 1 and 1/2 hour and OMG. There is indeed a perpetual motion machine and it is 5 18 month olds.
gonna run in my new shoes today!!!!!!
TGIF all.

oh no worries.  let DORKFACE prance and puff and blow all he wants [like a big ol dragon]

i have every intention on winning this here DISDAIN CHALLENGE.

i am, as you so rightly said, THE QUEEN of this here VILLAGE.

skrtrnr - 2009-11-13 8:22 AM MORNING GHOULIES.

my 'shrooms look 'lonely' in omelette all by themselves.

usually they have baby spinach to keep em company.

but i didnt get to the store yesturday.

and.....

i didnt realize until my son was out the door and the bus was pulling up the street, that his pants had a rip in the knee.

wtFLIP??!!!!

im thinking, when did THAT happen.

at first i was 'embarassed' and then i thought better of it.

wont kill em.  and doesnt kill me either.

we'll just make sure they go in the play pants pile when he gets home!

LOL

that's been my morning so far.

stacieb

Stacie - A rip in the knee is nothing compared to what I've seen some kids wear to school. I'm with you though, I pay attention to things like that, too. If we're going out somewhere I won't let my kids out of the house in anything less than clean clothes. They give me a hard time about it, but quess what... I'm the boss of them!!!

i guess it was only made 'worse' by the fact that just the day before my youngest son went to school w a pair of jeans on that had grass stains on the knee.

in my 'haste' i guess i grabbed a pair out the wrong 'hamper'....these ones OBVIOUSLY needed to be washed.  though.  i wonder if he put the pants in the wrong hamper.

when i saw what HIS pants looked like, i was sooo embarassed and went on and on (UNNECESSARILY SO) to the neighbor about how i really work HARD at making sure my kids are 'presentable' when they're going to school or other places.

when it comes to everyday, schlep around the house, playing outside, i could give a FLIP!

but.....

so C. had grass stains on his knees yesturday.

then M. had ripped pants today.

yeah.  right.  i WORK REALLY HARD.

pfffft.

but, in the end, does it really matter?

did my neighbor care?

would some of my neighbors care?  yes.  unfortunately we live in THAT sorta neighborhood (dont EVEN get me started....)

but who gives a FLIP about the people that it WOULD matter to.

im not here on this planet to impress, anyone.

i have better things to do with my time than worry about what the neighbors (SNOBBISH AS THEY ARE) think about me or my children.

stacieb.

ps.  manohpete.  that was a bit soap-boxy.  sorry ANN.
