Hi all,

I am trying to get back in to the swing of things and it is SO HARD!!  I have been having fun with my Mom, doing a bunch of stuff that I promised her we would do when she finished her treatment.  And I have been feeling a lot better about her!
But, how do I motivate myself when I have been a bum, gained 10 (okay, maybe 15 Embarassed) pounds, and feel defeated??  I have been out running some, but I just want to kick myself for letting things get so far out of hand.  I guess I am just feeling mad at myself.
I hope everyone else is having a good week!

Karen - The only way to get back up is to get back up.  The past is gone and there's not a darn thing you can do about it so scratch it off your list of things to worry about.  With that gone you now have room to add a 60 minutes of nonsense.

-Go for a tour of your neighborhood to count how many houses have red shingled roofs.  Try running while you do it.

-Hop on your bike and ride around until you find a fast food restaurant who will serve you at the drive through.  Enjoy a tasty treat before you head home.

-Go to the pool and do somersaults until you're dizzy then do a bunch of laps kicking off the wall as hard as you can and see how many strokes it takes to get to the other end.  Just like golf, the smaller number wins.  If anyone asks what you're doing tell them you're working on flip turns and anaerobic stroke efficiency.

Once you're finished you'll have completed three workouts without evening noticing and it will have been so much fun you'll start itching to do it again.

Hi all,

I have a favor to ask if anyone checks in today or tomorrow.  Earlier this week someone posted on COJ about a tri suit design contest.  The prize is free stuff from their website.  Anyway, I thought if sounded like fun, so asked my darling husband to whip up a design for me.  He did, and we are in a close contest for the lead.  If anyone has time, I would really appreciate you voting for it!!  It is here:  epixgear.com/design-contest   and the design is the Carbon Fiber one.  Thank you so very much!!

Karen

Okay, I don't know why my link will not work, but you can paste it in!!!

I voted last night then looked this morning and you won!  YIPPEE!!!

What I don't understand is how how Tron and Ironman took second and third.  Do people really want to walk around wearing partial Halloween costumes while they're racing?

6 days until my half mary.

Good luck Allison on your 1/2 mary...that's really exciting.  Unfortunately I'll be out of town but will be thinking of you while you're racing.

And Yanti -
1. Is "ryry" my new nickname from you?
2. when you said "didga do" all I could think about was you playing a didgeridoo  lol

I too have tried to play a didge before...semi successful...it requires quite a bit of work and talent if I remember correctly.

I did 11 on Saturday then vegged the rest of the weekend. In going to try to get a few easy 3 milers in this week and hoe for the best in Sunday. I'm confident that I can finish but in not sure what pace I should go out at. I did the first few miles on Saturday at 10:10 then lost track until the last 2 miles. Mile 10 was around 9:30 and mile 11 was 9:10. I'm thinking I can probably hold 9:45s for the while race but speed up at the end if I'm feeling strong.

We won the contest!  Thank you so much to every one who voted.  My husband is actually a Road Construction Inspector as his real job.  And his fun, on the side job is design.  He does mainly race cars, but has also done those giant checks places give out to winners, signs and billboards, dump trucks, ambulances, police cars, just about anything you can think of that needs graphics or lettering, and he does website design too.  Now, to pick out my free stuff!!

And thank you for reminding me that I work out because it is fun!  I think that was my problem.  I was looking at it as a chore - something I had to do and wasn't enjoying myself.  This past week I just went out and had fun - and knocked 2 mins off my 5k time.  I was very excited about that!

Good luck at your HM Allison!  You will rock!  Make sure to tell us all about it, because in my craziness of enjoying running this past week I registered for my first also.  It is not until May, so I have a long time to prepare, but I thought it would be a good way to stay motivated over the winter.  And remember to have fun Allison!!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Lessee, so much to catch up on.  First of all, Karen, congrats on your DH winning!  I didn't get a chance to post here, but I did vote, so I will take partial credit for his victory, haha.  In all seriousness, I thought it was the best even without being directed to vote for it, so I am really psyched that he won!

(Not to mention -- the Tron and Ironman designs would both have trademark issues.  Sheesh).

Our local Turkey Trot was cancelled, and the next nearest was just tooo far to drag my fam to.  So we did our own -- got up when we felt like it, then put the kids on their bikes and MIke and I ran.  He did 10K, I did 5K, the boys did something in the middle, since they rode out and back with Daddy, then started out again with him and then back with me for my last half mile or so.  It was nice.  We celebrated the holiday with my in laws, and their idea of a good time is to go OUT for Thanksgiving, so so be it.  We went to a lovely resort near my home where they had quite a spread.  I vowed to be good diet-wise, and I was for the most part.  First plate was full of salad and veggies.  Second plate was green beans, roasted veggies, turkey, sweet potato and mashed potatoes.  I thought I did small portions, and i wasn't over stuffed, but I still think I ate too much.  Had dessert at a friends' house and I made a gluten free pumpkin pie (from scratch) and it was yummy.  My biggest mistake, though, was trying the fudge she had made.  My fasting sugar this morning was through the roof (120 -- NOT good) and i know it is because of the way I ate yesterday.  So I am going to redouble my healthy eating efforts for the rest of the weekend and hopefully get it better again.  I have GOT to get the weight under control.   Bleh.

I hope those of you who did run yesterday did great!  Big flipper hugs to all.

OK, this is totally lame and self centered, but bear with me, because it is not everyday one is quoted in the New York Times:

Dineen - I read the article. Your quotes come off very well and reflect your keen intelligence. Not that I'm surprised. Make sure you get a clipping of that one.

So I did my HM this morning and already did my race report because my awesome DH has declared that I am off limits to the children today. They apparently are not allowed to ask me for anything, jump on me, complain to me or really do anything other than shower me with hugs, kisses and praise. The little dude has said "Mommy rocks" so many times I've lost count. The best part is that today I really do feel like I rock!
