My friends have waaaaay too much time on their hands with this taper. Just goofing around on FB. |

I have had friends with similar issues and it seems to work. Maybe something to try if you haven't yet. Hope you can get healed up.I am still somewhat fearful of the HIM swim. But now that I have started swimming again, I am committing to 2 days a week (thats about the max I can fit in) but that should be enough I think. I am still dealing with neck and back issues though. What's weird, is mostly the pain comes when sitting. To the point of a burning and painful feeling in the lower back, and an 8 out of 10 pain scale on the neck somedays. Had the MRI on the neck a month back. Bulging disc. Had an MRI this morning on the back. Will have those results tmrw. This accident from last fall really tweaked my body. It's funny though, with running, no back pain just a little neck pain. And biking, no neck pain, and just a little back pain. But nothing compared to sitting at work. I find myself standing at my desk sometimes. So I'll continue with PT for now. |

It is hard to know for me if I can do especially if I haven't run a certain distance before. Were I am at now it is hard for me to imagine doing an HIM. Luckily I am enjoying the challenge and I am having some good family support and it seems to be rubbing off on everyone in the house kidtri33 - 2012-05-16 11:05 AM Thanks for the well wishes on the job interview! It went well I think, so now it is just a waiting game. I have a question for ya'll doing or have done HIM's. How long after you started training did you consider doing a HIM?
6 months after I started I thought about it. It took someone convincing me I could do long course to finalize it in my mind though. |

Honestly it took a friend of mine, who I didn't really know did tris, blogging her way through her training up to IMTX for me to go "Well if she can do it why can't I?" |

It's my own fault, I went from 2 weeks off to running every day (only short runs, but still every day) straight away. Should have taken a bit more time to build back to that. I'll have a few more days off and then try to get back into it. Anyway, with NZ starting to feel the full wrath of winter I'm being pushed indoors on my bikes quite a bit now. But I'm not quite sure what my workouts should look like. My goal for now is base building (next A race is a HIM in December) So what would you guys recommend as some workouts. So far this week I've been doing some Zone 2 intervals (5min Z1, 20 min Z2 etc.) my trainer workouts should be about 60-90 minutes, to be done 2-3 times a week. (with a long ride outside in the rain on the weekend) Cheers, Andy Have you investigated the structured workouts and training plans on TrainerRoad.com. |

It probably depends on the person, but I get kind of sad when it's all over. You train for 6+ months, and then all of a sudden you're done. So, I always have something else on my schedule. Last year after IM I went straight into training for the Savannah Marathon. The year before I think it was a couple of half marathons. I can't have nothing to do or I go crazy and am impossible to be around. Just ask my husband. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Recovery swim and strength training done this morning. I have to fit in a Z1 run at some point today. I am in no mood to run, so it should be interesting. I am just so, so tired right now. We're putting in an offer on a house today. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I really like the neighborhood, school, etc. There are some hideous light fixtures in the joint. The few rooms that do not have hard wood, which I prefer because of my allergies, have some fugly looking carpet. That stuff is all cosmetic, and we can change all that through the years. Cool thing is the sprint tri I am doing in July is held in that area. The skeleton of the house is perfect for my family. Wish me luck, friends! Edited by jarvy01 2012-05-17 6:33 AM |

After my 1st IM I was sort of lost it was Florida so it was in NOv. so I jsut took a break and got started again in Jan. This time IM Lake Placid is in July I knew I needed something else so I signed up for the USMC Marathon to keep me busty till November. I will also scatter in some sprints and possiblly a 1/2 IM in Sept if I feel up to it. My plan afetr USMC is to take a few weeks off and then soley focus on 70.3 for 2013 |

I gave up up a while ago trying to make things fit in zones and just look at HR in term of various race intensities. Much easier and more applicable to the individual. |
